AN: Hello all! This story is being reposted because I can't use my username or password, I don't know what has happened because I'm sure I had it right. Anyway, I created another account, my other penname was Gipsy Queen. Please don't think I'm steeling somebody's work, I'd never do that. I apologize to the Admin. for posting this again, but I had no other way. I tried the forgot password link with all my e-mail addresses and none of them worked... Anyhow, enjoy the story and please review! :)

The three vampires walked down the main street, heading to the fair. They looked like three very normal teenagers, friends, arms in arms, chatting animatedly with each other. However, if you approached, carefully, and heard their conversations, you would understand that there was absolutely nothing humanly normal about it.
"Oh, come on, Sewenna!", said a blonde girl, her hair was curly, her face like porcelain and her eyes were sapphire/blue. She was dressed to seduce, a black short skirt and a red corset over a white shirt.
“You don’t understand… I should have taken her away from them, now… I lost her…”
“Please! She was just a girl, she had nothing special! What could she give you that some other cannot? I’ve tasted her blood myself and it wasn’t…”
“Let her be, Melusine”, said the petite, black-haired gipsy-looking girl. “Let her mourn. And it wouldn’t hurt you to show a bit more respect towards those who feed you.”
“Ashena! She’s almost crying over the girl!”
“She liked her, that means she still feels, and she should be proud of that. And I liked the girl too, for your information, next time make sure you have a firmer hand on your mate, so he won’t stick his fangs in other’s property. Now, now, Sewenna, she’s resting now, she’s in peace, you have to let go. We’ll find another girl for you, you’ll see.”
“This isn’t as if I lost a toy, Ashena.”, replied Sewenna sadly.
“I know, I know, dear. However, a new girl will fill the void a bit and you won’t feel so lonely. Come, I’m sure the fair will be just wonderful!”
“I don’t know… I don’t know if I’ll be able to find someone who…”
“Hmpf... I’ll go ahead of you if you mean to keep talking about that all night long.", Melusine scoffed while rolling her eyes. "See you later girls!”
“Oh, go on then! Don’t mind her, sweetheart, she’s a cold-hearted bitch.”
“Aren’t we all…?”, Sewenna mused. “Don’t you regret your decision, Ash? Don’t you see now why you shouldn’t have turned me? I will never be like her… I’ll never be the perfect example of a vampiress, I won’t seduce pretty boys, and I’ll feel affection towards my prays…”
Ashena smiled her mysterious gipsy smile and held the younger vampire’s hand.
“Don’t you see? That’s precisely what made me turn you… You will always keep your heart, you will always respect the ones whom you feed on! That isn’t bad, sweet one… That is what makes us different from the common evil ones.”
“Oh, Ashena… You still think I am a child, don’t you? I am very young in vampire standards, but… I’m not stupid! Why don’t you tell me the truth instead of painting the reality in pretty shades of pink?”
Ashena chuckled. She always found it so sweet when the girl started wondering about their very... Uncommon natures, so to speak. That was one of the things she liked about her little one, her ability to question what many others did not. She had always been an inquisitive little thing, she had. An interesting charge, not some blood-junky which couldn't get a hold of itself like the majority of them were. That was why she was always extra-careful when choosing another member for their clan. And that was what had kept her alive throughout these many centuries. When you weren't careful in your choosing, you might end up being killed on account of the filthy, reckless deeds of your children. And that certainly was not what she had in mind for her and her mate, and for her little Sewenna, of course. How could she ever do anything reckless? If angels existed on Earth, Ashena was sure her little one would be one of them. Always so sweet, so innocent, so caring and loving toward her preys...
“Oh, my love…", she said to her with a tender smile.”You will always be a child to me… Not a child to the others, but you are… You are my child, my little girl… And you’ll always be. I don’t think you’re stupid, on the contrary, you are very clever, and that’s another thing I like about you. And I never lied to you, nor will I, ever. But… Sweet one, tell me, why do you feel so unsure now?”
“I don’t know… I thought… I thought you weren’t aware of the way I am… At least not totally, I thought that if you knew you wouldn’t have done it. And now… Now you know everything, you know I like girls, I like having them with me, I don’t treat them nor do I feel like they’re just food…
“Sewenna… I always knew that. How could I not know? You were raised by me! I would not have done it if I were not 100& sure about how you are. Now, dear, will you stop being silly and perhaps start trusting my very efficient judgement?”
That pulled a small laugh out of Sewenna.
“Now, that’s better. Tell me, were you going to turn her?”
The girl sighed.
“I’m not sure… She was so beautiful and sweet, and she… At least she pretended to like me… I know she didn’t, truly, but… It felt good, you know?”
“I know how it feels, sweetie, believe me… I also felt like that before finding Andrash. Many times did I wonder if I should turn someone I happened to know at the time, just because they made me think, or at least tried to, that they liked me unconditionally… However, I always decided against it at the last moment. Because that is a very important decision, when you choose to turn somebody. And one day… One day I just found him by sheer chance… And oh, I wanted to scream to the skies above and the Earth below, I wanted to tell the winds and the seas that I had found him, my soul mate, my other half… It felt like I was human again Sewenna, I could feel butterflies in my chest and could almost feel my heart beating like a galloping horse… Then I knew, I couldn’t be more certain, it had to be him… And he felt the same! He held me in his arms while I was drinking his blood, he stroked my hair… Oh, I can still hear him «that’s it my love, I am forever yours…»”
She was telling it in a sort of breathless whisper that almost made Sewenna shiver.
“And I know, sweet one, I know that you will find your one too. Maybe today, or tomorrow, or in a thousand years… Who can tell? But you will.”
“I hope you’re right… Still… I feel so guilty, she must have suffered a horrible death, with those dogs… Ravaging her…”
“Don’t feel guilty, sweet one. You were not there, and you had locked your door… How could you ever guess they would be so crazed to break in? And I am sure she knows that to, wherever she is. It might have been painful, but she can’t feel pain now. Now, come. I have a feeling this place will be full of delights.”
It was throbbing with life, that was certain. Whole families with playful children, couples, teenagers, people from the youngest age to the oldest, you could find a bit of everything in that celebration. Ashena chose a young man who was in the queue for the bow and arrow competition, she enticed him into a corner, a hidden place between two tents, where she bit him and drank a few. Then she left him there, to be found by someone else. Then she let Sewenna choose her own victim, which she did quickly, for she felt tired and wanted to go back home and rest. It was a thirtyish woman with light-brown hair and a kind smile, and Sewenna didn’t kill her, doing the same her mentor had done some minutes ago.
“I’m going home, Ash I am tired.”
“Alright sweetie, just wait a minute while I go…”
“No, you stay. I know you’re enjoying it.”
“Oh, I’ve seen many like this…”
“Really, I insist. You stay here and find Melusine and have fun.”
“Okay dear. Tell Andrash we stayed, will you?”
“Sure!”
“Go on then, I’ll go kiss you good-night when I arrive.”
Sewenna smiled to herself at her mentor’s motherly ways. She knew it was her way of showing her affection and, to speak the truth, Sewenna actually liked it. She walked away from the plaza and looked for a deserted street so that she could fly home without being conspicuous. She giggled to herself as she imagined an old lady watching her take flight.
«Would probably faint or die from a stroke...», she mused.
She wasn't particularly fond of the idea that humans were mere feeding objects. She had been a human before Ashena had turned her, obviously. She knew that it was part of the great life cycle, that the stronger survived and the weaker died, Melusine had even told her once that they were like urban lions, or wolves, or whatever animal she had mentioned. But animals didn't have the ability to think rationally, at least not that she was aware of. They lived based on their instincts. And she knew that she, at least, could think rationally. Perhaps she should ask Melusine if that was something the girl wasn't able to do, as she certainly didn't seem to many times.
It wasn't much long till she got home. The city where they had gone was not far, so the flight only took about ten minutes. As she entered the great mansion she told Ashena’s mate his loved one would come later with Melusine.
“Alright little one", he said, ruffling her hair. "Did you have fun at the fair?”
“Not really… Too many people for my liking.”
“That’s like me… Oh, about the human girl, Thomas says he is sorry. But I kept him and his friend locked in the basement, just for some more days, only to… Ease their passionate natures.”
“Thanks, Andrash… I really liked her.”
“I know, little one. I buried her in the garden and made her a headstone. Why don’t you take some flowers to her before going to bed?”
“Yes, I think that’ll help me…”
“Do that then.”
Sewenna went out to the garden, which surrounded the great mansion. She found the grave where he had told her it was, behind the abandoned chapel. She had caught some fragrant wild roses from the bush near the stream and placed them upon the headstone, slowly, respectfully.
“I’m sorry…”, she whispered, she could feel her eyes filling with tears. “I’m so sorry…”
After some moments of reflection and contemplation, Sewenna got back to the house and to her chambers. She undressed and got into her nightdress, then got into bed, pulling the blue velvet curtains closed around it.
She felt Ashena tucking the covers around her and kiss her forehead tenderly, some time later.
“Sweet dreams my little girl…”, she whispered, then went away, shutting the door softly behind her.
