Why Must I Suffer?
~ Why have I suffered almost the same blows such countless times? But even so, I'll probably fight again. That is one of life's mysteries. ~ Sakura Drops - Utada Hikaru
TEN YEARS AGO...
"I told you to keep your back straight!"
The whip came down hard upon the naked back of the small boy. He fell to his knees hissing in pain. A large hand gripped his hair and yanked him off the floor.
"Now, stand straight! A true USER is not affected by pain. We feel nothing but the world's chaos around us. We are here to keep the chaos from swallowing the world. Repeat!"
"We are here to keep the chaos from swallowing the world."
"Very good. But you are still weak. I can see it in you, the potential to become strong. But first you must let go of everything."
The man went to the door and slid it open. "You will stay here tonight. No dinner. Instead, reflect upon yourself. Build your power. For tommorrow, you fight your rival."

Jaiden opened his eyes. He sat up and ran a hand through his snow white hair. Why was dreaming of his old training? It wasn't the dream that was concerning, but the fact that he was dreaming at all.
"I'm slipping again. Becoming weak." He said to himself.
He swung his legs over the side of the bed. The polished marble floor felt cool against the bare soles of his feet. He stood and stretched. He could hear heavy rain outside. He walked from his room to the kitchen. His apartment was small and bare. He really had no need for anything. He wasn't meant to enjoy himself. No, he was born to be unhappy.
He picked a bowl out of the cupboard and a box of plain cereal. He sat in the single chair at the table and ate in silence, the only noise coming from the still falling rain. Next to him on the table his COM lit up. The pressed the button on the edge of it. The sleek black disk glowed a bright white for a second, before a small hologram appeared over top it.
A violet haired woman greeted him. "Good morning Jaiden. I hope you slept well." She grinned.
He just stared at her. She knew he couldn't dream. She was insistent on her teasing.
"Well, Marco has a new mission for you. DarkSades have been spotted in your area. Dispose of them."
"You're not going to tell me where? Sailen is a big city Amara, they could be any where."
She sneered at him. "Well, use your 'superior' skills and find them. Marco gave this to you and you alone. You'll have no partner this time."
With a final look of disdain, Amara was gone. Jaiden closed his COM. How odd. Marco was a wise and revered leader amoung the USERs. He believed firmly in preserving their humanity as much as possible. That was why they always had a partner for every mission. Always. But now for some reason Marco was sending Jaiden out by himself.
"Has he given up on me? Or is it another of Amara's tricks?" Jaiden pondered aloud.
He finished his cereal and went back to his room to dress. Well, whatever it was, he had been given an order. An order must always be followed. Jaiden pulled on a pair of black pants and a long sleeved black shirt. His black gloves went on followed by his boots. He laced them up, wondering how he was going to find the DarkSades. Sailen was a major city. There were thousands of people here.
He grabbed his gun belt. He would have to go see his contact. He slid an eight inch blade into his boot. He strapped his gun belt on around his waist, and the around each thigh. In each holster was a speacially made black Beretta M9. He walked back into the kitchen and picked up his COM of the table. He pulled on a black coat that was low enough to cover his guns. He looked around the bare apartment one final time and walked out the door into the bustling streets of Sailen.
