Painted Death
What directions are there
For the passage?
Give me,
Oh, give me directions!
I will cross the ocean
If it is possible.
If it is not
I will wander still
Farther in the wilderness
What is this sleep
Which holds you now?
You are lost in the dark
And cannot hear me.
Where are you hurrying to?
You will never find
That life for which
You are looking.
There is no permanence.
The sleeping and the dead…
How alike they are.
They are like painted death.
Where are you hurrying to?
From the days of old,
There is no permanence.
What is there when
We have fulfilled our doom?
The sleeping and the dead…
How alike they are.
Life and death they allot,
But the day of death
They do not disclose.
