He was never one of those people who would mope around, always the seeing worst in life, so pessimistic in their view of the world. Quite the opposite really, he was a cheerful person and he had never been the type to question someone when asked for his help. He would never ask why or what for, he would leap to their aid within a moments notice, hoping that somehow he would be able to help them. When his friends needed someone to talk to he had always been there, he even volunteered at a number of reputable charities. All in all he was a good person but more so he’d never believed that someone’s life could be ruined after one bad day.

Coughing sprawled out on the pavement lying in a pool of his own blood; his stomach ripped open, bloody intestines hanging out over his side. He realized just how wrong he had been. He wasn’t even sure just how this happened or how but it happened so fast and there was so much blood…He was going to die here. Blood matted the bangs of his jet black hair; tears fell like a river from his leaf green eyes as he tried to scream out for help. He only coughed up more blood, no sound but a vile gurgle left him ‘why? Why me?! I didn’t do anything to deserve this!!!’ He screamed in his mind, he was beginning to feel his body grow cold and ever so slowly he felt himself begin to fade.
‘NO, NO I DON’T WANT TO DIE!!!’

A pillar of flames burst up at his side, he would have turned to look at it if his neck had not been throbbing with pain. The flame was dark searing red, unmoving burning perfectly in place neither spreading nor dying; it somehow seemed to maintain itself. “How badly do you want to live?” a dark scratchy voice echoed from within the flame, his eyes widen fear brimming up in the pit of his soul. “Do not be afraid Len, I’m  not going to hurt you” this only scared him more, how did this…whatever it was know his name. “I know many things, and I can hear your thoughts, but none of that matters. Now, answer me human…do you want to live or not?”

‘I-I want to live.’ Len could see nothing, he didn’t know what this creature was but somehow he felt the thing smile.

“Wise choice, human. I will save you, but be warned. The pain will be unimaginable” the flame at Len’s side widened and began to creep over him. Slowly he felt the stinging burning pain consume his form. That thing wasn’t lying. This pain was worse than even what he was feeling right not. The flame began at his feet, rising slowly up to his waist then neck and when it moved over his head; he blacked out.

Len’s eyes cracked open jolting upright in his bed…wait he was in his bed back at his dorm, hurriedly he looked himself over. Lifting his shirt he patted his tone stomach “I’m not hurt” he exclaimed happily dropping his shirt and standing to his feet. It was all a dream, nothing but a horrible dream “Thank God.”

“I’ve been called a lot of things but God is certainly a new one” Len froze at the unfamiliar voice; he craned his neck to the side. Sitting atop Len’s desk was some guy who appeared to be maybe one or two years younger than Len himself. He had silken black shoulder length hair with several red streaks, his skin perfect and unblemished, and his eyes oddly yellow and cat-like. His slim form clothed in all black, baggy jeans and a tight leather jacket, silver chains hung loosely from his clothes.

“W-Who the hell are you?” he had to stop himself from rushing the guy, he was possibly the hottest guy Len had every seen.

The other chuckled lightly hopping off the desk, it was then Len saw a necklace around the other’s neck in the shape of a pentagram. “I’d tell you my true name but it is unpronounceable in the human tongue, you may call me Devlin.”

“Okay…why are you in my dorm room?”

Devlin shook his head “you still don’t get it do you?” Len said nothing only shrugging his shoulders “I’m the one that saved you from dying, human.”

Len cringed at the memory of the dream, or rather what he thought had been a dream “that was just a dream, none of that was real.”

“Oh I a sure you it was real and it most certainly happened” Devlin said plainly looking around the room curiously “hmm you humans have the oddest living quarters.”

“Why do you keep saying that?” Len couldn’t help but be a little scared, with this stranger in his house and kept referring to him as a human. “You’re human aren’t you?”

Devlin smiled darkly as he walked up to Len, standing at his side placing a hand on his shoulder “I am not human, I am what you would call a Demon.” He felt Len shiver under his touch and could see that the reality of things was finally settling in, most humans would have run terrified. Devlin had approached many and revealed himself, they either thought he was crazy or ran away terrified. It never mattered to him which they did; he had killed them all the same regardless of their reaction to him.

This human, Len wasn’t running away terrified but he was scared that much Devlin could literally smell emanating from him and what he thought was arousal. “Y-You’re a demon?” he paused the tiniest bit of hesitation as he turned to face Devlin “I guess that makes sense.” At this Devlin was surprised when Len shook off his hand and went to sit on his bed smiling “so I guess this is the point you take my soul huh?”

Devlin smiled, flashing unnaturally sharp teeth “I’m not doing such a thing, it would have been pointless to save you if that was my intention. But make no mistake one day your soul will be mine but not until your life reaches its natural end…or you’re killed whichever comes first.” Devlin stated all of this with such disinterest that Len was uncertain whether or not he should believe what he was saying. “I must tell you however that there is a price for my saving your life and no it’s not your soul.”

Len gulped before asking “then what?”

Devlin looked him in the eyes “I am a hunter, to survive I must consume other beings with power that rivals my own…and you your going to help me.”

Len stared blankly at the self proclaimed demon, there was no way he was serious “your joking right? How could I possibly be able to do that?” He still wasn’t quite sure whether this guy was serious or if this was just a joke, all the same he didn’t plan to keep up this charade.

Devlin sighed at the humans stupidity “you’re incredibly incompetent” he went over to the window left of Len’s desk “how do you think I saved you?” Len merely shrugged “I transferred a small portion of my energy into you; it was the only thing I could do to save your pitiful life.” Devlin went on but Len barely paid attention; he looked over at the wooden baseball bat lying against the wall at the edge of his bed. He hadn’t used the thing since baseball season had ended last month but now seemed as good a time as any to use it. Reaching over he grabbed the handle of the bat and stood silently “unfortunately it was not enough to free you from the shackles of your mortality.”

‘I really don’t wanna do this but you need help’ Len thought as he crept up behind Devlin and raised the bat over his head. He took a moment to catch a breath and then swung as hard as he could, even if he did injure him he needed to knock the boy out.

The blow never landed, Devlin had the bat in his hand, or to be more precise what had once been a human hand but a moment ago. What had caught the bat, protruding from Devlin’s forearm convulsing out of his sleeve were several black and bloody red tendrils wrapped around the bat each tipped with a sharp white claw. Len wanted to scream but he found himself near unable to breath, he tried to pull the bat away but the unearthly tendrils refused to let go. “You just don’t learn” Devlin’s voice grew darker as he turned to face Len, his eyes glistening with a mixture of yellow and red slit pupils narrowing dangerously. “I can hear your every thought” He stepped closer pressing the bat against Len’s chest, tendrils slithering about causing him to shake in fear “know your place.”

“O-Okay…I get it. Please d-don’t kill me” Len all but begged as one of the tendrils neared his neck, Devlin let out a huff of disgust.
“You humans are so pathetic” Devlin said harshly ripping the bat out of Len’s shaking hands and tossing it across the room like a children’s toy. It fell to the ground after colliding with the wall; he turned to Len, who at the moment looked like a deer in headlights. With a smirk Devlin pointed the amalgamation of tendrils toward Len and watched as the he shuffled backwards falling onto the ground. “If nothing else you’re amusing at least” Len watched as the tendrils wrapped around one another until it returned to a human hand, Devlin vaguely took note to the bulge in Len's pants. “If I was going to kill you I would have done so already” Len stood to his feet trying to calm himself at the realization of things.

So this guy really was a demon, had had really saved him from dying and now Len was pretty much at the demons disposal, just great. “Hey, Len!” Each turned as the door burst open and in came a man seeming a little taller than Len though much more muscular. Broad shoulders, large chest and short blond hair spiked forward “what’s going on in here, I thought I heard something crash…whose your friend?”

Len wasn’t surprised at the sudden intrusion, Nick was never one to announce himself before he entered a room he was one of those people who like to get the jump on others. He had obviously heard the bat crash against the wall and being the nosy person that Len knew him to be, he’d taken it on himself to investigate. “It was nothing Nick, I uh just dropped something is all” Len realized he now had to come up with a decent explanation about Devlin.

Before he could say anything the demon walked up to Nick and held out a hand “I’m Devlin, nice to meet you. I just enrolled here and Len was nice enough to show me around a bit.”

Len was pretty sure he noticed Devlin's nose twitch for a split second, Nick shook the offered hand oblivious to Len’s shock “I’m Len’s dorm mate, names Nick. You’ve got a strong grip for such a little guy” Nick commented as he let go of the smaller boy’s hand as he turned to Len “you have some explaining to do.”

“What?” Len said startled as Nick walked up to him.

“You were supposed to tell Mrs. Calvert that I couldn’t make it to her class, you never showed up. Why?”

“Wait I remember going but then…” His gaze fell upon Devlin who wore a dark smirk “well, I’m sorry man I ran into Devlin and sorta forgot.” That wasn’t a total lie, but Len didn’t like lying to his friend but he certainly wouldn’t believe him if Len told him the truth.

Nick sighed scratching his head and glancing over at Devlin who was looking out the window, he threw and arm around Len’s neck. Leaning close as he whispered “I know your trying to be nice but be careful” he paused making sure Devlin couldn’t hear “this guy looks like trouble.” With that he stepped back “alright it’s fine but don’t let it happen again, I guess I’ll be seeing you later Devlin.”

“Most certainly” he replied with a polite smile as Nick strode of the room closing the door behind him, his attitude changing instantly “where was he during that class period?”

Len was taken back by the question “wait; forget that for a minute, did you really enroll here? And if so when did you even get the chance?”

“You were unconscious for two hours, which was plenty long enough for me to enroll and get my own dorm” he stepped forward “now where was he?”

Len stepped back “he was hanging out with his off and on girlfriend Emily, why do you even care to know?”
“Where is she now?” Devlin persisted.

“She’s got a free period right now; I guess she might be in the dorm or more likely at the lobby.” Len was starting to get scared, Devlin was for whatever reason insisting on this “why do need to know, he always ditches it’s known of your business.”

Devlin rolled his eyes “I don’t give a damn about that” he said walking over to the door “the moment he walked in here I got the faint scent of a succubus.” Confused Len asked him what a succubus was “it’s a female demon that specializes in disguising itself as a human and seducing them. They're an annoying lot that think they do just about anything they want with their looks” he huffed opening the door “your going to help me find her.”

            “Why?”

“Your so stupid” he said walking into the living room, Nick was sitting on the couch watching TV, he hadn’t heard him “come on, you said you’d show me the fountain.”

Len followed reluctantly, the demons innocent act was really starting to get on his nerves. “Yea lets get going” he walked up to the door unlocking it and holding it open for Devlin as he looked to Nick “I’ll be back later.” Nick nodded and waved as he and Devlin stepped out into the dorm hallway “alright you can’t expect me to believe that Emily is a succubus?”

“That's what I intend to find out” he said walking down the hall until he reached the lobby “this is a co-ed dorm, it shouldn't be that hard to find her.” The dorm lounge was a large room with two hallways leading into it, three couches situated before a 40 inch TV screen on the wall. Two pool tables were set across from one another, the walls a deep blue shade and dozens of students were hanging around socializing “which one is she?”

“I'm not gonna tell you, she's just think your another guy trying to screw her, plus there is no way I'm letting you eat her.”

“And since when do you think that you have a say in things” Devlin watched as Len tried to look at anything that wasn't him “I know I'm a demon but you can't be that scared...” It was then he noticed a faint blush on Len's face “hmm that explains a lot, no wonder your not jumpy at the chance to see her.”
“Huh what do you mean?”

“Nothing, anyway I have little doubt that this girl is a succubus” Devlin was fairly certain that this girl would make a decent meal, her appeal would make things even more interesting. He licked his lips in anticipation and his stomach growled “you don't need to worry, just point her out. After that I will handle the rest, succubi aren't well known for their combat ability she'll be easy prey.”
