Archangel in the Aviary
Archangel in the Aviary
The Lord and the Lady is not on hold, just for those who're watching for more chapters. The next chapter is actually longer and is taking longer than anticipated to write. This will update soon, I promise, and I don't know how long it will be, or the outcome. I'll make the same promise that I made with my other story. If you keep reading and reviewing it, I'll keep writing. *nods* Now go read!

I don’t really know how I came to this world...
Well, I mean, I know how I came to be, because other people have explained that to me, of course, but I don’t know why I’m in this world.
People have been telling me all my life that I’m special. This is not my place, I don’t belong here. I still don’t exactly understand what they mean, though I do know I do not look like the other avian children. I do not look like the noble eagles or the severe hawks. I am not sweet like the doves; I am not graceful as the swans. I am not as witty as the ravens, and I am not as bizarre as the kiwi.
I’m not entirely sure why I’m different... I just know I am, and that I don’t have anyone to tell me why. Not that I really think it would make a difference. I would still be different. I would still be a child in the wrong world.

Soft opal eyes opened gently, tiny coos escaping the small bundle in the woman’s arms, even as she tried to gently shush the newborn, crouching in the underbrush, slightly pointed ears perked up to listen for even the slightest sound, swallowing heavily as she heard the familiar gruff shouting, the heavy footsteps in the brush.
He was closing in... Judging by the slight slur of his words, he was also rather drunk, and would be in a terrible mood if he found her out here, and holding a baby no less.
She looked down at the burbling child in her arms, feeling a slight smile working over her face at the sight of him sucking his tiny thumb, looking up at his mother with wide, honest eyes. They were the eyes of someone who had not had to face the world yet and were untainted by it... She couldn’t help the faint pang of sadness as she said to him,
“He will not harm you... He is not your father, no matter what he may say, and he will not take you from my arms...”
Kissing his forehead, she heard the footsteps draw closer, and a loud, very angry snarl permeated the quiet of the brush.
“I know you’re hiding out here! Come on out, you little shit! I know you were hiding something from me, no one stays that sick for that long! Come out here and be the good little wife you’re supposed to be, bitch!”
She flinched at his words, jumping slightly as she heard her infant in her arms begin to cry, his eyes screwed shut as he started to fuss, making her heart threaten to stop for a second before trying to calm him, rocking him and cooing to him, the footsteps quieting for a moment before starting to thunder through the thicket towards them, already dangerously close.

A/N: Yes, I mentioned the Kiwi. I needed a bird that was odd, and I didn't wanna use a penguin, everyone uses the penguin...
Not sure if I'll bring in a kiwi... x.x If I do, anticipate a cute little girl flapping around with a bob haircut. *nods* If you read, please review, even just to say hi...
