Heat. Light. Rhythm.

My body moves in a seizure of energy and movement. Eyes closed, senses consumed, I lose myself in the chaos. Nothing else exists beyond this moment, this place. Reality lost to the pounding music. My past is drowned in the frantic beat. Emotion found only here under the pulsing lights of a dance club.

The driving rhythm of my body is brought to an abrupt end as a hand tightly grips my arm. I open my eyes and he is there. His eyes burn with a cold fury though the only sign of emotion on his face is the grim set of his mouth. Ah, my tormentor.

He drags me away from the bright lights and throbbing beat of the club, out into the cold night. He found me again. I’ve run so far. Not far enough, I guess. My arm is numb by the time he stops in a distant alley. The hand on my arm moves to my neck, the grip not tight enough to hurt though the air flowing into my lungs needs a little effort. His sweetly scented breath washes over my face. He whispers all the same words but there is a new threat in his voice. Maybe I should have struggled. Slam! My head smacks into the bricks so fast I don’t even feel the movement, only the resulting pain. Slam. Slam. The edges of my vision are starting to look a little fuzzy now. Slam. Slam. SLAM.

Everything fades to black…

I wake abruptly, clarity slamming into me with the dulled agony in my head. I know by scent that I’m in a hospital room. I’ve been here enough to recognize the unique mix of death and disinfectant. There is an unnatural silence. Unnatural because it’s impossible. Nowhere in the world does such silence occur. A chill rushes through my body, collecting around my heart. I’m deaf. The world will be silent forever.

That man, the father of the girl I killed, has taken what is most precious to me. I grin. A shame he stole the only thing holding me to humanity. It was a mistake, not making sure I was dead. There is more for him to lose, and I am going to take it. Mother is next.
