Chapter 1

Author's note 1: This is my 2008 NaNoWriMo story (it is complete). I am not a native English speaker. I edited it a bit, but it is still not proof-read by any English speaker, so I'm sorry for any glaring errors I've missed or any awkward phrasing that may occur.

Author's note 2:
My aim was to write yaoi manga style story, only wishing I could draw it instead of writing. A few things I want to clear in case you're not familiar with basic Japanese culture:
* Japanese names are written surname first and given name second. Mostly people are called by their surname, unless the relationship is closer.
* In Japan, it's polite to add honorifics or suffix to people's names. the most common ones I'll be using are:
san - same as Mr. or Mrs./Ms. It's general and polite.
sensei - teacher/professor/doctor. They can also be referred to as "sensei" without their name.
senpai - anyone who's in a grade above you at school or work.
kun - polite way to refer to someone younger than you (or your age), usually boys. Teachers may call all their students with -kun, even girls.
chan - a "cute" way to call someone close to you, usually when you refer to small children or girls. The name used with –chan may sometimes be abbreviated (eg. Ryoichi can be Ryo-chan).

* Other terminology I'll be using:
Gakuran - Japanese boys school uniform (in winter, it looks like this: http://blogs.gamefilia.com/files/imce/u518330/090301_Gakuran1.jpg).
Genkan – The entrance to a Japanese house, usually lower than floor, when one takes off his shoes before entering the house.
Hanami – Viewing of the cherry-tree blossom.
Japanese school year – The school year in Japan starts in April and ends in March of the next year. The terms are broken by short vacations in winter and spring and a long vacation in the summer.
Kouhai - someone's junior, at school or work.
Ni-chome - The most well-known gay district in Tokyo, something like West Hollywood, located in Shinjuku.
Shibuya - One of the 23 special wards (districts) of Tokyo.
Shinjuku - one of the 23 special wards of Tokyo. It is a major commercial and administrative center, housing the busiest train station in the world.
White Day - In Japan, on Valentine's Day girls are giving chocolates to boys, and on White Day which is a month later (March 14) the boys return the chocolate to the girls.

* please note, the main character's name (Daisuke) is pronounced dice-ke (ke like the ca in cat). other than names that end with -suke, most japanese names sound as written.

Hope this will make the story a bit more clear and enjoyable :)

TOKYO BOYS
Chapter 1

More than one million people cross the road in Shibuya in one day. For a split moment in time, hundreds of lives integrate into a tiny piece of an enormous puzzle. From the classroom’s window, Kaname Yuuto could see the skyscrapers that towered above the green landscape, throwing their shadow on the world’s busiest crosswalk.

He sighed and closed his notebook on the panoramic sketch he was scribbling. Thoughts like these made him realize how small and insignificant he was in the world. Even at class, the microcosms of the world he feared, he was nearly invisible.

It was the day before White Day and as such it was more hectic than usual. The girls were crowded at one side of the classroom, eating their lunch and gossiping excitedly, throwing glances at the boys, who were crowded on the other side of the classroom. Yuuto’s eyes landed on Midori. She was smiling brightly as she spoke to her friends, every now and then flipping back her hair that fell on her shoulders. Yuuto felt an itch to open his sketchbook again and draw her.

Suddenly a large-built third year student burst into the classroom, making everyone turn their eyes to him.

“Ah, it’s Yoshida-senpai!” the girls seemed to have recognized him.

Yoshida-senpai scanned the room, looking furious. Yuuto wanted to shrink in his chair.

“Who is Hasabe?!” Yoshida roared. “Hasabe Daisuke, come out here!”

Yuuto cringed. Exactly as he feared. Daisuke did something again.

Ehhhhh? you don’t know who is Hasabe?” the girls asked in a choir, clearly not bothered by the clouds of steam that seemed to vapor from the older boy’s body.

Hasabe Daisuke was possibly the most popular first-year student in Shiraishi High School. He was good looking, outgoing and the star of the track team. In just a few months, nearly everyone up to the third graders and even the teachers had already become his followers.

Obviously not this guy.
Yuuto overheard one of the boys mentioning Yoshida was the captain of the football team. It explained it. Great, he thought. Daisuke sure knew how to get into trouble.

“He’s not here…” one of the girls finally said. “He’s not hard to miss though,” she added. “Bleached hair… kinda messy… he doesn’t tuck in his shirt…” she started mumbling when Yoshida abruptly turned to face her with his scowling face.

“Ah, piercings!” Her friend came to her aid. “He has piercing in his eyebrow and his ears… and he’s tall…”

Yuuto wished he was really invisible when she pointed her finger at him. “Ask Kaname, he’s kinda his friend, I think.”

Yoshida stomped over to Yuuto’s seat and before Yuuto could do anything, he reached out and grabbed him by his collar, forcing him up violently.

“Where’s Hasabe?” he growled and tightened his hold around Yuuto’s gakuran.

“I… I don’t know…” Yuuto almost choked. “Honestly…”

He groaned in pain when his thigh was pressing tighter against the edge of the desk.

“Go fetch him. I’m waiting.” Yoshida released his hold and pushed Yuuto. “Go, go.” He motioned with his head when Yuuto just stared at him dumbly. “You better come back fast or I’ll kill you.”

Yuuto bowed slightly and scuttled out of the room.

~*~

“Damn that Daisuke, getting me into trouble…” Yuuto grumbled, looking behind him to make sure the guy didn’t follow him. He rubbed his neck, still feeling sore from the upperclassman’s tight grip. The truth was he knew where Daisuke was. Daisuke was usually spending lunch break smoking up on the roof without any fear of suspension or lung cancer.

“Ah, Yuu-chan!” Yuuto was surprised to see Daisuke in front of the first year’s boys’ lavatories. “Good timing.” Daisuke flashed a smile and waved his hand. “Come here.”

“There’s a big senpai wai-“ Yuuto started saying, but Daisuke interrupted him, “Listen, keep watch here for a few minutes, don’t let anybody in, ok?”

“Ah-“ Before Yuuto could say anything Daisuke shut the door and Yuuto let out a sigh.

It happened before, Daisuke and his girlfriend copping a feel in the restrooms and he is forced to keep watch for them. Being Daisuke’s friend since elementary school, Yuuto thought he would get used to it one day, but that day hasn’t arrived yet. Yuuto blushed at the mere thought of daring to think what Daisuke was doing.

Daisuke closed the door and turn around. “There. We’ll know if anyone comes over.”

The boy in front of him moved towards him, but Daisuke pushed him before he could kiss him.

“I said I’ll only let you suck me off,” he said. “Don’t be so greedy, Mashiba.”

“Fine, fine.” The boy smiled and kneeled.

He unzipped Daisuke’s fly and eagerly tugged at his pants, pulling them down together with the boxers in one swift move.

“I always wanted to see it…” he scrutinized Daisuke’s slightly aroused member. It swelled under his touch. “It’s beautiful…”

“Enough with the romantic crap… I don’t need it,” Daisuke scoffed and clenched his teeth when the other boy started stroking him.

Mashiba played with Daisuke’s foreskin, pulling it all the way up and letting it snap back. He unveiled the head and teased it with the tip of his tongue. It only irritated Daisuke, who grunted and grabbed Mashiba’s head, forcing him to hold still. It only took a couple faster stroking and few licking and the teased organ was standing at full attention and dripping. Mashiba took it into his mouth, lapping his tongue around the pulsing vein. Daisuke threw his head back and crouched, his knees giving in.

He came rather fast, surprising Mashiba that nearly gagged on the gob. Daisuke took another moment to calm down his breath.

“You’re pretty good,” he admitted.

“I told ya I’m better than a girl.” Mashiba smirked and washed his face in the sink.

Daisuke pulled up his pants and walked over to wash his hands. Mashiba rubbed against him. “And you don’t even need to buy me flowers, honey~”

~*~

Yuuto peeked at his watch. He was getting impatient.

“Are you done yet?” He knocked on the door with the back of his hand.

He was startled when the door opened and it wasn’t Daisuke who walked out, but another boy. The guy gave him a little smile and walked off. Yuuto blinked and looked inside the room. Daisuke was fixing his hair in front of the mirror.

“Um, who was that guy? Where’s Horie-chan?” Yuuto asked, confused.

“Hm?” Daisuke turned around. “Oh, we broke up. She broke up with me.” He walked past Yuuto out to the hallway.

“Wait, what?” Yuuto scurried after him. “You were only going out for like a month…!!”

“She caught me with another girl yesterday,” Daisuke said. “It’s not a big deal.”

“It is a big deal, you idiot. Why would you cheat on Horie-chan, you know all the boys want her…”

“Do you want her?” Daisuke smirked at him and Yuuto blushed. “Anyway, I couldn’t refuse an older woman.” He shrugged.

“An older woman…?” Yuuto repeated after him. There’s no way Daisuke would do anything with a teacher, would he? No, even Daisuke would never go that far. He suddenly remembered the furious upperclassman that was waiting for them in classroom.

“It couldn’t be… Yoshida-senpai’s girlfriend?” he asked carefully.

“Hmm?” Daisuke was busy counting the cigarettes he had left. He put the pack back in his inner pocket.

“Anyway, what were you doing with that guy in the bathroom?” Yuuto sighed, giving up on getting a normal response from his friend.

“He gave me a blowjob. Did we have any homework in English?”

“Wh-what?” Yuuto was still stuck on Daisuke’s offhanded reply.

“We have English now, no?”

“He gave you what?” Yuuto asked again.

Daisuke chuckled. “What are you getting all excited for? It’s just a blowjob.”

“Hasabe!!”

Yuuto jerked when he heard the voice shouting. He took too long to find Daisuke and now he was going to be killed for sure. Why did Daisuke have to mess with the football team captain of all people?

Daisuke raised his eyes, but didn’t seem too bothered.

“Are you Hasabe?” The upperclassman snarled as he walked towards them.

Yuuto could see the wheels in his head moving as the small eyes measured Daisuke: tall, check. Bleached hair. Check. Piercing. Check. Dressed like a punk. Check.

“Took you long enough, shrimp.” Yoshida shoved Yuuto out of his way and tried to slam his fist into Daisuke’s face. Daisuke dodged it easily enough but Yuuto lost his balance and fell to the floor.

“Hey if you have something against me bring it up, don’t involve Yuu-chan,” Daisuke said and reached out his hand to help Yuuto up.

Yuuto slapped his hand away and got up. “Don’t call me Yuu-chan…” he muttered.

More people started to gather around, watching the scene.

Yoshida-senpai was still rage driven. “Shut up, bastard! I’ll teach you… stealing other people’s girlfriends!” he raised his fist again. This time his fist connected with Daisuke’s jaw, making him stagger backwards.

Daisuke crouched, one hand on his knee. “Ah, so you’re Yoshida…” he raised his head and grinned. “I didn’t steal Arisa, she came on to me…” He wiped some blood from his lower lip and looked at it. “Man, you should treat your kouhai better…”

Yuuto grimaced. Daisuke’s teasing attitude only made Yoshida angrier.

“I’m going to kill you,” Yoshida hissed and charged again.

Daisuke grabbed his arm, twisted it and elbowed the older boy’s face. Yoshida yelped as blood gushed out of his nose. He tried to break loose, but Daisuke kept twisting his arm more, until he brought him down, crouched over the floor. Daisuke leaned over him, still holding his arm.

“If you were nicer, I’d have given you some tips so you could satisfy your girl and she won’t go out looking for cuter boys…” He taunted him. “Are you really the football team captain?”

The students around laughed. Yuuto just looked on nervously. Daisuke showing such disrespect to their senpai made him feel very uncomfortable.

“Bastard…” Yoshida groaned as he fell to the ground.

Daisuke smirked at him. “You better go back to your floor… do you really want all these first years to hear what else your girlfriend had told me?”

Yoshida blushed and closed his mouth.

When Daisuke believed the older boy had given up, he released him, allowing him to get back to his feet.

“Don’t dare touch my girl again…” Yoshida threw another empty threat at Daisuke and turned around to leave. He threw glares at the crowd and scared freshmen cleared his path in the hall.

“Hasabe-kun, are you okay?” a bunch of girls were already all over him as soon as Yoshida disappeared.

Yuuto looked at the girls, even Midori was among them. He felt some bitterness residing. Daisuke had no shame and played along with the girls. He was always so carefree, doing things like that. Yuuto actually felt for Yoshida-senpai, and then felt a little guilty, as if by feeling that, he was betraying his friend.

“Yuu-chan~” Daisuke suddenly jumped on him, throwing his arm over Yuuto’s neck.

“Don’t call me that…” Yuuto grumbled. “Are you done hogging attention?”

“You know I only want your attention… damn, it hurts…” Daisuke winced and touched his wounded lip.

“Maybe you should go to the infirmary…” Yuuto suggested quietly.

“Nah, that guy probably went there…” Daisuke chuckled and led the way back to the bathroom.

Yuuto looked on as Daisuke examined his fresh bruise in the mirror.

“Ah, it hurts…” he looked at the spots of blood on his white T-shirt. “I hope this is washed in the laundry, my mother will kill me…”

“Why did you let him hit you? You could’ve avoided it like the first one…”

“Because I did his girl, I deserved it…”

“How noble of you… you should’ve thought about it before.”

“I wanted to have some fun… and third year girls are better than first year…” Daisuke mused for a moment, “Girls are really troublesome…”

Yuuto sighed, bracing himself for another of his friend’s ridiculous speeches.

“They are too high maintenance and difficult to please, I just want to have fun before I have to start studying for university. Girls can give you a good head and then bark your head off if you just speak to another girl…”

Flirting is not exactly just speaking…
Yuuto sighed mentally.

“That’s it, I’m moving to boys…”

“How about diverting some of that energy to your studies- what?” Yuuto blinked when Daisuke’s words registered.

“Mashiba was even better than a girl… I’m sure there are a lot of boys around who just want to play, no strings attached,” Daisuke hummed. “You don’t have to date them, buy them stuff to make them happy… it’s like a clean business…” he laughed to himself. “Dirty business… I love it.”

“Are you crazy? You’re not gay…” Yuuto blushed.

“I had a couple of boys confessing to me back before summer vacation… too bad I don’t remember their names…”

“Are you even listening to me? It’s White Day tomorrow!”

“Is it?” Daisuke rubbed his injured jaw. “See, another nuisance out of the way… I already love being gay!” He smiled.

Two boys entered the restroom and glared at Daisuke.

Yuuto coughed. “A-anyway… you can’t get into drama club with that acting skill…”

The bell started ringing and the two boys hurried into the toilet stalls.

“Great, I wasted the entire lunch break on you…” Yuuto scowled.

“Like you had anything better to do…” Daisuke swatted his shoulder.

That’s because you hang out with your girlfriends all the time, Yuuto wanted to tell him but kept quiet. It was difficult to admit it in front of someone who was always surrounded by people, but other than Daisuke he didn’t really have any good friends. There were some boys he was talking to in art club, but they were in a different class and he didn’t see them outside club activities. He was always the lonesome boy in every class he was in. making friends and opening up to people was a difficult task. As a kid he hardly even spoke to anyone but his mother and older sister. It was surprising and maybe even unnatural that someone like Daisuke regarded him as a friend at all.

Since the last year in middle school, he didn’t get to spend as much time as before with Daisuke. Girls started to manipulate much of Daisuke’s time and Yuuto was often left out. It was only natural.

Maybe now…
Yuuto thought, maybe now things could go back to the way they were… I mean, how many gay boys Daisuke could possibly find in school?

“Yuu-chan, you’re spacing out…” Daisuke snapped him out of his thought.

“Ah, sorry.”

“I asked if you want to go to the gaming center after club hours… you don’t have cram school today.”

“We need to buy chocolates. It’s White Day tomorrow,” Yuuto reminded him.

“You don’t have anyone to give it to anyway…”

Yuuto frowned. “Maybe I do.”

“Fine, we’ll buy chocolates… we could do it downtown anyway.” Daisuke found compromise.

~*~

Yuuto greeted his friends in the art club farewell and went to the sports field, where Daisuke was finishing up his own club activities and getting ready to leave.

“Yuu-chan~” He beamed at him and was rewarded with a grumpy ‘don’t call me that’ look.

“Hasabe, you’re coming with us to Ichinomiya Place?” his club mates inquired. The restaurant was one they often frequented after club practice.

“Not tonight, maybe tomorrow…” Daisuke turned them down. “Tonight I’m on a date with Yuu-chan.”

The boys laughed and Yuuto lowered his eyes to the ground, feeling embarrassed. Somehow, in front of others, he couldn’t even bring himself to express his irritation at Daisuke’s lame humor.

A quick glance at the watch showed they weren’t going to make it in time to the arcade if they were to miss the train that was leaving the station in 6 minutes. The station was already in sight, so they started running, with Yuuto falling behind.

“Hurry up!” Daisuke prompted him.

Yuuto breathed heavily as he tried to catch up. “Ah, I can’t…” he wheezed, stopping to breathe.

“It’s not so far, come on!” Daisuke was already at the entrance. “Do you want me to come carry you?”

“Stop joking…” the boy growled and picked up his pace again.

Just barely, they’ve managed to squash themselves into the packed car before the doors closed. It was impossible to move and so they huddled together, thankful they were getting off in 3 stations. Their winter coats added some extra volume which didn’t help the feeling they were trapped like sardines in a can.

Yuuto positioned himself in front of Daisuke. He had the habit of using the taller boy as a wall, after he had the unpleasant experience of feeling someone caressing his behind. At first he thought it was Daisuke playing a joke on him, but Daisuke was on his other side and Yuuto turned around to see a balding middle aged man grinning at him. He was too shocked to say anything the entire ride.

“Idiot, it’s because you’re cute like a girl that perverts like you… start acting more like a man and tell them off,” Daisuke scolded him. “At least you could’ve told me and I’d have kicked that old fart in the nuts.”

Daisuke tapped on Yuuto’s shoulder, goading him to move towards the exit.

The gaming center was one of Daisuke’s favorite hangout places. Yuuto wasn’t so fond of the arcade, and didn’t have too much allowance to spend, so he came up with excuses and could often get away with it. It’s not like Daisuke couldn’t find anyone to go with him. But even if he disliked going to the arcade, Yuuto still enjoyed spending time with Daisuke alone.

“Wait, Yuu-chan…” Daisuke stopped in front of a cigarette machine. “Need to stock up, I’m almost out of sticks.”

Yuuto rolled his eyes. “One day you’ll get caught… and I don’t want to be there to get the blame.”

“If a teacher catches me…” Daisuke drawled as he inserted coins to the vending machine. He turned around to grin at Yuuto. “I’ll seduce her and sweep her off her feet…” he collected the pack and put it in his bag. “No teacher can resist me…”

“Yeah?” Yuuto faced him. “What if it’s the vice principal that catches you? Will you seduce that geezer too?”

Daisuke bit his lips. “I bet he would love that…” he sniggered and they both started laughing. Yuuto laughed, feeling happier than he’d felt in a while. He hoped he could spend more time like that with Daisuke, before studying for the university entrance exam would take up their life.

~*~

They were kicked out of the arcade around eight o’clock and wandered in the street. Despite the chilly air, the street was full of people, the shops were all lit and decorated and there were even some stands that gave the street a feeling of a carnival.

“Ah, chocolates.” Yuuto suddenly remembered and they started looking for a chocolate shop that wasn’t too expensive.

The shop they found was extravagantly decorated for the event, with white balloons and flowers, and there were many customers inside, creating a long line from the door to the cashier.

Yuuto crossed some people’s path, bumped into a couple and murmured an apology, before finally reaching his destiny – the special White Day sale.

“Who are you going to give it to?” Daisuke hovered over Yuuto as the shorter boy picked a box of white chocolates.

“I dunno…” Yuuto tried to move away but Daisuke blocked his way.

“Who?”

“I don’t know!”

“What’s her name?” Daisuke insisted.

Yuuto blushed and shrugged him off. “I haven’t decided… what about you? You’re not going to give Horie-chan chocolates? Actually you probably owe a lot of girls chocolates…”

“I told you I’m done with girls…” Daisuke had a bored expression on his face.

“That nonsense again…” Yuuto shook his head. “I thought you forgot about it already.”

Daisuke turned around to look at a set of white teddy bears and plushies that were holding red heart-shaped sign that spelled out in English “I love you”.

“I’m totally going to do that,” he said as he touched the soft plush and then he turned abruptly to face Yuuto. “Wanna be my first kiss, Yuu-chan?”

Yuuto felt the air caught in his windpipe. He frowned. “Don’t mock me please.”

“Ah, that’s right… you haven’t kissed a girl yet… what’s the name of the girl you like?” Daisuke squashed one of the teddy bears and didn’t even look at Yuuto.

“Eh…” Yuuto blushed. “I don’t know… I think Midori is pretty…”

“Midori? Who’s that?”

“Hmm… uh, Shiozawa Midori… she’s in our class.”

“Ah, Shiozawa… I see, I see… well, she’s cute.” Daisuke put the bear back on the shelf. “I’m getting hungry. Are you hungry?”

“A little…”

“Let’s go.” Daisuke picked a small box of chocolates wrapped in a red ribbon and got a place in the queue to the cashier.

“I thought you weren’t going to give out chocolates this year.”

“It’s for my mom.”

~*~

They walked out to the street. It wasn’t as busy as before. “Ahh… so cold,” Yuuto gasped and zipped his coat all the way up.

“Want my scarf?” Daisuke asked. He stepped closer to Yuuto and wrapped the scarf around the both of them. “Or we could go like this…haha.”

“Stop it, dummy.” Yuuto bent to get away from the scarf.

Daisuke laughed and ruffled the shorter boy’s hair. “You’re too cute, Yuu-chan.. I can’t help but tease you…” his voice trailed off when something caught his attention at the corner of his eyes.

“Daisuke?” Yuuto walked after him.

At the corner of the street, on the other side of the road and next to a small Starbucks branch, a big neon sign showing a great shark outline and English letters blinked in bright glowing blue.

Daisuke felt drawn to the sign and Yuuto followed him silently.

“The Big Blue…”

“Lame name…” Yuuto commented, but Daisuke’s eyes were elsewhere.

“Look Yuu-chan… I’m pretty sure it’s a gay club,” he said as he watched the men that entered the club. “Wanna go check it out?”

“Ehhh…?” Yuuto widened his eyes. Daisuke walked past him and he caught him by the sleeve of his coat. “Wait, Daisuke… we’re underage.”

Daisuke turned around and looked at him, as though seeing him for the first time. He smiled softly. “I’m sorry, Yuu-chan. You’re right…”

Yuuto looked at him, confused. “What’s on your mind?”

“I think we hit the jackpot.”

A walk farther into the street showed The Big Blue was just a small fish. The street was full of glamorous looking clubs with colorful neon signs and lights. And judging from the men that disappeared in the side streets, it was just the beginning.

Yuuto looked at the random men with concern. “Daisuke, maybe we should go back…”

“No, I want to see more… we’ll just look around.” Daisuke wrapped his scarf around his neck and started walking. Yuuto rushed to catch up with him. He didn’t like the idea of wandering around that area, but he was better off with Daisuke than going back on his own. He just hoped they wouldn’t get into trouble.

And when he saw the long-haired man making his way towards them, he felt trouble just found them.
