Excuses (A poem)
A long pull from the shorten cigarette
A look across the room, eyes have met
The fridge long been emptied of its booze
No mater course of action, result will lose
Empty containers litter the small room
Shadows on the wall depict my doom
Though I know not yet I’ve done
I know that pain is soon to come
Same as last I’d seen your fists
Amount of times, I cannot list
Though I trust you, though I love you
I cannot see how this is due
Long sense past, have made excuses
Pitiful lies about the bruises
No longer will it be me
Across the room that you see
For I am not the same girl you knew back then
The same loving eyes looking at you back when
Back when things were so simple
For now a bruise covers that dimple
On the face that used to smile
Not seen that girl for a while
Though days will pass without raised hands
From the man who makes many demands
One night after drinks he will return
Another mark on my arm, burned
Until that night all I can think
Is at your screams not to blink
For showing fear would be a mistake
Yet courage is one hard to fake
Someday you will learn, someday you will see
What your actions have done to me
Until that day I will wait
Pray it doesn’t come too late
For because I trust you, because I love you
I chose to excuse the things you do
A look across the room, eyes have met
The fridge long been emptied of its booze
No mater course of action, result will lose
Empty containers litter the small room
Shadows on the wall depict my doom
Though I know not yet I’ve done
I know that pain is soon to come
