Prologue
A/N: This story belongs to my husband. I am posting this upon his request to get input, etc. There will be mistakes and editing will follow as time permits. This is an incomplete work in progress and updates will be slow.
The story follows a ship- 'The Trinity' on her voyages through space, with a crew of non-human specie that are battling throughout space against another rival species. Catch glimpses of both space life, battles, and an unfolding plot sure to draw one in- if given enough time.
The Trinity’s Epic Fallout
Prologue:
“Sir, our shields are about to fail, one more hit like that, and the bow will be exposed to their millibeam accelerator. The armour won’t last long against that much punishment. Sir?”
The captain looked pale as the monitor showed more missile blooms launching from the enemy prow. He checked his watch, then the monitor. “Tactical, on my mark drop the bow shield. Helm, roll right ninety degrees and raise the bow forty degrees.” He checked his watch again, then turned to the monitor. “Now, all hands brace for impact!”
The collision alarm wails as he felt the deck plates buck under his feet, the ship shrieking from tortured metal at the sudden impact. The missile struck the ventral shields, the energy rippling the shield as it dissipated.
“Tactical, raise bow shield and charge all forward linear burst cannons. Helm start evasive maneuvers- don’t give them an easy shot! Tactical, fire forward missile tubes as they come to bear, full yield; when their bow shields flicker, fire the linear burst cannons in ripple.”
The captain turned to the main screen and watched the missiles’ drive flares streak toward the enemy cruiser. Seconds later the first missiles struck, followed by the other twelve slamming into the weakened energy field, then a white flash as one slipped through striking the prow armour. The deck plates shuddered and rumbled as each of the massive cannons fired, all six sliced and tore massive chunks of armour from the enemy cruiser’s bow. As they hit the shields flared and shimmered as each round burst into white hot fragments that chewed through the hull armour.
The bridge crew cheered as they watched the damage unfold.
“Quiet down people. We’re not done yet. Tactical, load sabots and fire at will. Helm, close with that ship, bring us in range of the PAG’s and the auto-cannon. Prepare to broadside across their bow.”
The ship slid forward as the three dorsal turrets fired their loads of armour piercing rounds, two going wide and disappearing into the stars, another skipping off the prow cannon to embed itself into the lower superstructure. The other two smashed into the already damaged bow, penetrating deep into the hull before stopping. An explosion rips through the bottom of the cruiser as the magazine erupts into a hell storm of fire and shrapnel. A PAG beam finds its way in causing deck plate and crew to vaporize under the extreme heat. Gas and flame pour into the void like blood from a wound.
“This is the captain. Fire all weapons as they come to bear- pound her flat.”
The entire broadside fired. The cruiser’s shields failed as auto-cannons, lasers, and mag guns tore, chewed, and melted through to the other side. The armour bubbles and bulges, glowing red and then orange as it finally gives and explodes out, spewing molten metal into space. The engine flares and dies as escape pods blast away from the now drifting hulk of a once grand war ship.
The captain watched the enemy cruiser die as its crew fled into space. “All hands cease fire. Tactical, lower shields. CAG, send out the SAR bird, there are lost souls who needs to be rescued. At least we can be civil after the battle. If you must shoot them, then only in self defense.”
