This Belief
I cannot stand these days
I cannot leave these days
I cannot understand these people.
I cannot leave these people.
I fear them.
I love them.
They are my neighbors and countrymen.
They are my enemies and my doubters.
I am their hope and future.
I am their despair and destruction.
I look upon the future they are unfolding with doubt and courage.
I look upon the future I refuse to give into.
I refuse to go quietly into that good night.
I refuse to say yes, when I want to say no.
I am me.
My mind is mine own.
That is all I will ever truly believe.
So whatever may happen this I know.
This is my home.
This is what I love.
I will defend it to the last.
From strangers.
From neighbors.
From friends.
From family.
From me.
That is all I can do.
