The X Day

The X Day:
By Akira_Khushrenada_Merquize

Most people say that X marks the spot. For me the X marks the end of my life. My name is Ian Thirdston, I’m 26 years old and currently working on one of the most important law firms on the city of New York. And today, is not any ordinary day, today is the X day.

It all started on normal day, when on my way to work I stopped at the usual coffee shop to get a mocha latté and a bagel to begin my day. It was when coming out of the shop that I bumped into her; she was the most beautiful woman I had ever laid eyes on. She was wearing this sunny low cut dress and white leader boots, her hair was pulled up on a loose ponytail and she had bangs resting on her forehead. But the most impressive thing was her eyes; the color was so light that they looked gray, they where a perfect mach to her light color skin and her dark red hair. I don’t remember for how long I stood there staring at her, but it was her voice that startled me. “Oh! Excuse me, I’m sorry!” it was the most melodic voice I had ever heard, it was like music to my ears, “Oh no! I’m the one who should apologize, sorry.” She smiled at me again and I got lost on her smile. Coming out of my reverie, I stepped aside and opened the door for her. “Thank you” she said. “No problem, your welcome” I smiled at her and she returned it. After she went into the shop I headed down the street to my office. I arrived and said hello to the receptionist and headed to my office, where my secretary reviewed my schedule. That day passed with no interesting events, but the usual conference. The next day I went down the street in direction to the coffee shop, in hopes of encountering the young woman again. To my luck she didn’t show up. For the next past weeks I went to the shop in hopes of finding her, but I never did. Thus two months passed with no sight of the young woman, I was feeling a bit disappointed that I had not seen her and at the same time I was beginning to lose hope. It was on December 31, exactly three months later, on the firms annual New Year’s Eve party that I saw her again. This time she was wearing a gorgeous sleeveless V cut long black dress with silver heels, her hair was loose around her neck and it flowed all the way down to the middle of her back, she looked stunning. As I was watching her she caught me and gave me a smile. I walked towards her, “Hey there stranger” she greeted me. “Hello, how is the most beautiful woman at this party doing?” I said as I kissed her hand. She blushed and giggled a bit and I smiled at her. We engaged in a conversation and I never asked her as to how she was attending the party, the law firm had a lot of important companies under their wing and each year a lot of different people attended. We talked for what was like hours on end and each time she smiled and giggled, I learned her name, Leilani Arstec Yule a 25-year-old French woman who was finishing her studies on the University in New York city. The time had passed and it already was 11:50 pm, when everyone started with the countdown. We grabbed a new glass of wine from one of the passing butlers. As 12:00 am got neared she grabbed my hand and counted the minutes, “5…4…3…2…1. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!” The whole room went on an uproar as everyone cheered and congratulate each other. “Happy New Year!!” she said as she hugged and pecked my cheek. “Thank you, Happy New Year as well!” I hugged her back as I whispered into her ear. That night was the most wonderful night of my life.

Today, as I stand in front of this mirror, I make a recap on my life and how wonderful, if ordinary, it all had been before this moment. I finish up fixing my tie and head down the stairs to my car. As I drive to the church I can’t help but feel nervous and anxious of what is to come, of how I will react when I see her. I arrived at the church and was surprised at how many people where already there, I greeted the ones I knew and headed inside to get ready. A few minutes later I’m standing in front of the altar waiting for the music to begin; at last the melody of the organ plays around the church and the wedding procession begins. When I saw her I felt out of breath, she looked so beautiful at that moment that I felt like crying. She was smiling her radiant smile and acknowledging everyone there. She crossed eyes with me and smiled. I smiled back and I tried to make it appear real, even though I was forcing it, in reality I just wanted to cry. Finally she arrives at the front of the altar and to him, he pulls up her veil and together with their join hands they turn to the priest and say their vows, “I do” she said. At that moment I felt my heart sank. Here I was at the wedding of the woman I loved and I played the part of the best man.

X marks the spot. X marks June 18 on the calendar, where the X day stands for the end of my life.
