Chapter One: Orientation

The lines were horrible, nearly one-hundred people waiting in a room that could barely hold them all. Asher Grayson fidgeted as he waiting with them, bright green eyes staring down the last few people that stood in his way. He was standing out too much in the room, standing at six and a half feet with a muscular tone throughout his tall frame.

"Next," the woman at the table had barely let the word past her heavily lipsticked lips before he slammed his brand new student i.d. card down in front of her. He blushed, turning his glaze down to study the faux tile flooring when he felt other eyes turning towards him.

"Sorry," he managed to mumble as he ran his large fingers throw his short, dirty blond hair. "Nervous... first day and all."

"Most people are," she replied. She was probably smiling but he could hear the slightest hint mockery in her tone as she handed him a red folder. "Have fun, classes start Monday."

He grab that and the card back before walking out of the room as quickly as he could, taking in a deep breath of fresher air in the less congested hall and immediately caught the trail of the familiar scent. His legs were moving faster than they should have been, not fast enough to seem abnormal to the human eye, but strange to the other freshman and any of their parents he rushed by. Heading down the stairs two floors, he came to the bookshop, slowing his strides as he pretended to look for the someone as he followed the trail.

He opened his mouth to greet the other who had his back turned to him but didn't bother when a black sweatshirt was held up against his navy blue t-shirt clad chest by a pale hand.

"Why must all university sweats look so tacky?"

"Don't buy it for me then?" he replied, still not accustomed to all the gifts the young looking man was always giving him. Though at the moment, he was slightly more distracted by the way the fluorescent lighting was making the normally dark waves of hair that caressed his face look more crimson.

Dark ash grey eyes looked up into his musingly as he clicked his tongue. "Hm, no. It's more like I'm buying it for you so that I can be cliché and steal it from you and walk around the house in nothing but it after we make love."

Asher's eyes grew bigger as he hushed the other boy before quickly looking around them to make sure no one heard. "Kael! Keep your mouth shut!" he growled under his breath as his cheeks started to heat up.

"Oh relax, my love-puppy, I'm speaking soft enough so that only your adorable little ears can hear me," he chuckled softly before giving the beet red man a sly wink as he bent down to pick up the budging white plastic bags at his feet, handing one to the dirty-blond. "I've gotten all of our books, by the way."

He took it reluctantly, practically pouted as he looked down at the boy who was almost a foot shorter than him. "Mom gave me money."

"Oh please, save it for food money or something. Speaking of, how about we go get some take-out and then head up to unpack? There were a few places in town that looked cute," he grinned as he lead the other man to the register with the shirt and his own bag folded in his arm.

"Cute?" he repeated, eyebrow quirking up questioningly as they waited in another line. This time wasn't so bad, but Asher could tell if it was because there were a lot less people in this one or because he had Kael there to distract him.

The red head snickered softly saying in a hushed tone that only his puppy would be able to here with all the noise around them, "Wouldn't it have been more strange if I had said delicious instead?"

He nodded with a grin, unable to argue with the vampire on that one as he watched him make his purchase silently. The earlier conversation can rushing back into his mind as he watched the cashier fold the article of clothing into another plastic bag. A picture of his petite lover, at least he was petite compared to him, in nothing but the top, pale and slender legs barely covered as they inched further and further apart, pushing up the fabric to expose more and more of the creamy skin...

"Asher, you're drooling. Surely you can't be that hungry," the snicker from Kael barely woke him from his daydream, especially with the double meaning for his hunger until a person behind him tapped him on the shoulder, a brave move to try to get the large young man to hurry along.

His face became flushed again as he muttered an apology for holding up the line before making a B-line for the exit, Kael following beside as they made their way to the parking lot.

"Lovely little gathering, wasn't it?" Kael said as they reached the doors, slipping his thinly framed sunglasses down over his eyes. The movies always got it wrong, a vampire's eyes are just sensitive to sunlight and the boy didn't even tan when they had gone to the beach last summer, let alone burn.

He pulled his key chain out of his jeans pocket and hit the button to pop the trunk of his black Ford Mustang GT convertible, another gift that Kael had given him as a graduation present at the beginning of the summer. Hands down, it was by far one of his favorites though it drew in a lot of extra attention he didn't want in his small hometown, but was more than willing to try to ignore for the unbelievable vehicle. The driver's seat had made him too comfortable to not accept it, especially since he didn't have a choice in the matter according to the terms the two had laid out

However, Kael drove it back, allowing Asher devouring every morsel in the tin trays in the passenger seat as he looked out the tinted windows, trying to memorize everything.

"Is it far from campus?" he asked after swallowing down some soda in between forkfuls of pasta as they headed off the rode and down a dirt path.

"Actually, it's right across the lake. The woman who showed it to me said that the last owners," Kael sighed before continuing, hating that the home had to be used with one of Asher's terms being that the blood drinker could only make their living arrangements if he promised not to have a new place built. "-had a thing for riding their bikes when the weather was fair enough for them. Took them less an hour that way."

Asher nodded softly, shifting quietly in his seat as he felt an uneasy feeling growing in his stomach, and it wasn't the meal doing it to him. He tried to gulp down the feeling as he shoved the trash back in the brown paper bag. His mind wondered as he focused on the garbage for a moment until Kael interrupted with a simple and cheery, "Here it is!" and was out of the car the second the car was parked and off.

He held his breath as his breath and looked up, expecting to see a home bigger than the main building of the university, and could only sigh in relief when he say a cabin like house with large windows. It was big, but not like he had imagined.

"You picked this out?" he asked in disbelief as he climbed out of the car to join the patiently waiting Kael, taking the bags from earlier with him as well.

A pout instantly took over the vampire's features. "Are you disappointed? I could easily-"

"No, that's not... I didn't mean for it to, you know... I, er," the bashful werewolf started to stammer, eyes watching his feet as they made their way to the front door. He let out a frustrated huff before he felt the other's fingers lace with his, giving him the strength to spit his words out. "I like it so far, but do you?"

Kael chuckled as he unlocked the door, "Of course, love. Now, I know that outside may be more your style, but I assure you that the inside couldn't possibly be more suited for any other couple other than us." He held open the door and gestured for the young wolf-man to enter, holding back a few moments to let his distressed love some time to take in their new abode.

The vampire quietly watched his lover fidget slightly, tan hands running his fingers over the neat marker lettering that mark the box to a certain room before looking around the large living space. He looked like a lost, little puppy in a new place, away from the comfort of his home and family for the first time so much that Kael couldn't help by wrap his arms around him reassuringly.

"Why don't you-" Kael began with a playful smirk on his lips before he briefly pressed them against Asher's before he continued, "-go for a little run while I set up things here?"

"By yourself?" he questioned politely although his body ached at the suggestion, leaning forward more to rest their forehead's together, an awkward thing with their height difference but comforting. Heated, sun-kissed skin against death-like cold.

The red head snickered, nipping softly at the other's bottom lip in between phrases. "I'll be able to get things exactly... where I want them and... much faster, plus... when you return, I can give you a grand tour of the master bedroom before we can, shall we say... break in our new bed?"

Asher chewed on his bottom lip, barely able to nod in a reply before he felt the chilly body leave his. It made him shiver in longing as he watched the other creature's hips sway slightly as he gracefully made his way to the pile of boxes. He wondered if he would break anything important if he just bent Kael over the boxes and took him now...

"The sooner you get going, the sooner you'll get me on my back," he blushed as his mate tilted his head back to him, one visible grey eye filled with glee and promise through a thin wave of hair.

"Stay out of my head," he grumbled, pivoting around and heading towards the back door before he started to remove his t-shirt as the vampire's laughter filled their home.

"I didn't need to for thoughts like those, my little were-pup!"

He scurried out onto the small deck, closing the glass doors behind him and smiled when he saw a wicker laundry basket that looked somewhat similar to another he knew. Stripping the rest of his garments and shoving them sloppily in there, he ran his fingers along the curves of the lid. This is home, he thought as he walked bare footed into the grass and taking a deep breath of the scent filled with the essence of the lake and forest coming together. Warm, fresh pines and chilling, dark waters.

He let it distract him from the sharp, needle like pain the ran along his skin as he started to phase, making it more pleasurable as he fell on all fours, throwing his head back to release the breath as a howl, letting the forest and all its inhabitants that a new alfa-wolf had control of the area before racing off into the dense woods to claim his new territory.
