Chapter one: Life can change in the blink of an eye.

I sat on the hard hospital chair beside my Brother’s bed; his hand in mine. I stared down at his little lifeless body with tears in my eyes. We had lost both our parents in a car crash. Noah had been in the car as well, but he was the lucky one. It had now been 2 weeks since the crash, and Noah was in a coma ever since. I never left his side, only to go to the bathroom.

My name is Jordyn and I’m the only girl my parents had. I am 15 years old and in grade 10. I have 3 brothers; 1 older and 2 younger. Derek is the oldest and he’s 17 years old and in grade 12. Cameron is 13 years old and in grade 8. Lastly, Noah is the youngest and he’s 6 years old. 2 weeks ago, our parents were in a bad car accident, and Noah was also in the car. Mom and dad both died instantly, while Noah was thrown out of the wind
shield and slammed into a house. He was the lucky one; he survived.

“Here’s some pizza, Hun” came our Aunt Emily’s voice at the door. She sat down in the chair beside me and put the pizza down on the tray.

“Thanks” I replied, taking my eyes off Noah for a minute to pick up the pizza and take a bite. I put it back down and went right back to staring at little Noah.

Emily got up and left the hospital room. Our big brother Derek then came in and sat down in the chair that once occupied Emily. He looked at his brother and then down at the ground. I looked over at him; got up and walked in the hallway. I stared ahead blankly as I made my way to the elevator. I accidentally walked into a guy about the same age as me.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t see you” He said, helping me up off the floor. I just nodded my head and pressed the button on the elevator. The young man looked at me and then continued on his way. When the elevator finally got to the floor and the doors opened, I got inside and pushed the down button. I stood in the elevator looking around, waiting for it to stop at the main floor. It finally got to the ground floor, and I stepped out. I made my way to the front doors of the hospital. I walked over to the park across the street and sat down on the bench. The sun was shining and the birds were chirping. I looked up at the sky and wondered why god had to take our parents away from us. I took my cell phone out of my pocket and turned it on. It had said I had 3 missed calls and 4 text messages.

After I read my text messages and found out who had called me, I closed up my phone and put it back into my pocket. I laid down on the bench and stared up into the sky. I started thinking about what was going to happen now since myself and my siblings were orphans. “Was Noah even going to make it?” I said to myself, tears building up in my eyes once again. Just then, I felt a hand on my shoulder. When I looked up, it was my other younger brother Cameron. I sat up quickly and groped him tight. This was the first time I had seen him since the accident. Cameron had been on a school trip in California for the last 3 weeks. We just sat there hugging eachother for what seemed like years. When we finally let go, we stared at eachother. “I’m sorry Cameron” I finally said in between sobs. Cameron just nodded his head and groped me once again.

When we had finally calmed down, we both made our way back up to the hospital room which our baby brother’s still little body lay. Cameron sat down on the chair beside the bed and held Noah’s hand. I just stood there staring at them. “You guys okay?” Derek asked, breaking the silence. Derek walked over and hugged me. All I could do was cry into his chest.

**************1 Month later**************

Noah had pulled through. It was truly a miracle. He woke up 2 weeks after the day Cameron had come back. He had to stay in the hospital so he could be monitored to make sure everything was okay. We were all so thrilled when it was time to move in with our Aunt Emily. We had been staying at the hospital while our brother was healing.

“Got everything packed?” Emily asked. I came into the room, Noah in my arms. “Yes, got everything I need” I said, smiling and hugging Noah tight. Derek and Cameron were already all packed and in the car out front. I picked up my bag and headed on down the hall towards the elevator with Noah in my arms. Once again, that cute guy I had seen before was there. “Hey, he’s better!” He said, smiling and looking at Noah. “Yup, my little peanuts going to be all right!” I said in reply, looking from Noah to the guy. “You got an email?” He asked me, as I pulled out a piece of paper and handed it to him. The doors of the elevator opened and I stepped into the elevator, blushing at the guy as the doors were closing. “The names Jonah by the way!” He called, just before the doors completely closed.

When I got to the main floor, I stepped out and walked towards the front doors. When I had gotten to the car, I looked up at the window in which I once looked out. “Jordyn are you okay?” Cameron asked, opening up the door for me. I snapped out of my trance and nodded my head. I then put Noah into his car seat, sat beside him and closed the door. Finally, Emily had came out with the rest of the bags and put them into the trunk of the car. “You guys hungry?” She asked, as she got in and closed the driver door. “Very” Derek said in reply, rubbing his stomach. We drove out of the hospital parking lot, and headed towards the first restaurant we saw.

It was almost 5 in the afternoon when we had finally arrived. Everyone with full tummies, all piled out of the car. Derek and Cameron grabbed the bags out of the trunk and brought them into the house. I took Noah out of the car seat, and carried him into the house. I put him down so he could explore his new house. Noah ran into the living room. I watched him and smiled. I then helped with the bags from the car.
