Chapter One

Another story, another story! Uhm, i've been feeling kinda blue recently, so this is a sad story. Uhm, maybe a big angst-tacular. I hope you enjoy it.

The rain was cold.

The longer he stood there, on the bridge, staring at the river, the colder he became.

If anyone could make out the figure through the torrential rain, they would’ve seen a tall, slim boy, with a mop of black hair, now sodden and clinging to his face.

He wasn’t even wearing a coat, they would think, his thin t-shirt and jeans soaked through.

But still he didn’t move. And it wasn’t even the river he was looking at. His eyes were open, but they didn’t see the storm around him. Instead they saw the scene that had occurred a few hours beforehand.

‘Seth?’ Came the voice, tinny and small, from his mobile phone.
‘Is that you?’ Seth asked, pressing the phone to his ear.
‘Yeah.’ The boy at the other end of the line said, ‘we need to talk.’

Seth tugged at a strand of his feathery black hair, hoping against all hope that this wasn’t what he thought it was.

‘…Seth?’
‘I’m listening.’

‘Well, uhm, today was really fun, but… it kinda made me realise…’

Oh no. Please, don’t say it… Seth thought desperately, his hand moving to fiddle anxiously with the metal studs in his ear.

‘Yes?’ Seth asked, hardly trusting himself to speak.

‘I think that… well, uhm… I just feel that we’d be more comfortable… as friends.’

Seth’s whole body tensed. He pulled his knees up to his chest, clutching the phone as if it was a rope, the only thing preventing him from falling.

‘I don’t wanna lose you as a friend, you know?’

Seth didn’t know. He didn’t understand. It sounded clichéd, but he thought he’d found… the one. This couldn’t be happening. It was a dream. Some sort of mistake, right?

‘Are you okay?’ The voice sounded just as smooth as usual, why wasn’t he upset? Why didn’t he even care that right now, he was tearing Seth apart.

‘Brilliant.’ Seth said, pouring as much venom into the word as he could, then he hung up.

He dropped the phone, and as is expected, when he let go of the rope, he fell.

The world had never seemed so dark, when just yesterday, everything was brighter than it had ever been.

Then came the tears, leaking from such vivid green eyes.

It was far too late for ‘boys don’t cry’, or the fact that he was seventeen and hadn’t cried in years.

He hugged his knees and let the salty water stream down his face, his shoulders shaking with unsuppressed emotion.

And that was how he’d ended up on the bridge, in the middle of a downpour.

He had to move, he had to go someplace. Where, he didn’t know, but somewhere.

He moved a hand to brush his waterlogged hair from his eyes, then rubbed them viciously. His vision was blurry, whether from his tears of the tears of the sky, he didn’t know.

Slowly, he started to walk. His feet carried him off of the bridge, and into the rain, grateful for the cold numbness the water was creating in his limbs.
