Relic Ressurection

Relic Resurrection

For everything there is a result… ‘Be careful what you wish for,’ that’s what they always say, I should have listened… Maybe if I had realized what the repercussions of all of it would be… maybe just maybe I would have stopped. But I’m getting ahead of myself… For a moment there I assumed you knew of the events that have unfolded in the past few years… although it started a long before I was drawn into it.

Prologue: Ripples
“Tara!” he screamed, thick blood coursing down his face. He held his sister close to him, tears beginning to mix with the blood. His voice became a whisper, “Who did this to you?”
“…Brother… did…” she whispered, splitting her cracked lips open.
“Enlil did this?” He pulled her close, trying to keep her body warm until the ambulance arrived. “But why?”
“Always asking questions you know the answers to, now aren’t you Emon?”
Emon twisted where he sat, trying to locate his twin brother. “Enlil, what happened to you?”
“Ah, I was granted real power! Not that pathetic excuse of a mind that you have!” Enlil hissed, digging his nails into Emon’s arm. “But… Unlike everything else, I won’t share this with you… I want to watch you suffer! Maybe after enjoying that pain, maybe then I’ll let you die… but not before.”
Emon fell to the ground, his shoulder bloody and his sister limp on the ground in front of him. His mind tried to comprehend what was happening, what had happened… but it couldn’t, it just froze. He’d seen worse… but they were never his family, they were never targeting him. “Enlil… Why? She was our sister you bastard!”
“I never did love her…but I did love the pain from her death… You know she was so worried about you when she should have worried about me.” Enlil laughed, “But your pain will be much sweeter than what I could inflict on any other, you and I are connected !”
Sirens wailed in the distance, signaling the ambulance and the police. Red and yellow lights flared in the distance, Enlil sneered in distaste, “Looks like your friends are arriving… I’ll see you later, little brother.”
Pain seared in his eyes, momentarily blinding him. He awoke in a hospital, an I.V. drip in his arm. The world around him blurred, a vague figure sat next to his bed. “You’re lucky to be alive, Carver. Your sister was bitten and killed by a vampire , and why this fiend let you live I don’t know… but your going to tell me aren’t you.”
He knew an order when he heard one, “Boss? I’m assuming it’s you…”
“You got that right, Carver, its General Shlovin. Answers.”
“You didn’t find him did you?”
“Who Carver? The vampire?”
“My twin brother… He… he’s the one who killed Tara…”
“Then we need to have you out of the field and in protection twenty-four seven.”
“Boss you can’t take me off duty! I have the best chance of finding him!”
“No Carver, you’re a promising agent. I don’t want you dead till you get a chance to actually do some good.”
“Why are you here, boss? Not here in the hospital with me, but in Jersey?”
“There was an attack in New York… NYC has been completely wiped off the map . The Secretary sent me here to investigate myself… but kiddo that’s off topic. Promise me you won’t go after him.”
“I can’t… Shlovin, you’ve known me since I was a high school sophomore, you know that I wouldn’t insist on getting this case just to get revenge. Please put me on my brother’s trail… He’ll kill any other agent you send after him.”
“Kiddo, you aren’t even part of the organization yet… you were just an intern…”
“I graduated last week, put my paperwork in two days ago.”
“Damn it, Carver! I just can’t put you into that kind of situation!”
“Paso can’t handle the losses that you’d get! He’d slaughter any one you sent after him.”
“Paso Firm has a lot more personal than you think Carver.”
“I know… the ‘Shadow Agents ’ right? But that’s not my point. You need everyone you can here, not on the case of a lone vampire.”
“Fine, but the Director will have my head for this. Just don’t get yourself killed… I don’t want that on my head.” Sholvin headed towards the door, stopping short on his way out. “He’s been killing others Emon, and leaving presents for you I think… bloody letters…”
“Bloody letters?”
“Yes… The only one that was legible said: ‘Never forget, your pain is my bliss… Don’t die just yet.’” Emon shuddered underneath his covers. “You were right when you said we couldn’t risk agents, he’s already killed at least three… And they were specialists in hunting vampires, he also wounded Aton.”
“Aton?”
“A vampire, one of those ‘Shadow Agents’ you referred to a few moments ago… His friends were good agents…”
“I’m sorry sir.”
Sholvin surveyed the boy’s face, “Don’t be… It’ll be me who’s sorry for you, those crime scenes are going to rip you in two.”
As Sholvin left, Emon turned to go back to sleep. Gasping he fell out of his bed, “Tara… your dead!”
“I know… but… I can’t leave you alone… not with him… I never could protect you from him when I was alive, and you never admitted that he did anything to you. I’m so sorry I died before I could warn you.”
“It’s… It’s not your fault…” Emon choked on tears, “I was the one who let him push me around… but not anymore. He’s going to pay for what he did to you, and what he did to his other victims.”

“Sam?” Rangi asked into the phone, his friend should have been home. “Sam, it’s Ran… Pick up the phone… Please?”
Silence. His friend either chose not to answer or simply couldn’t, Ran knew that Samuel was home, he’d talked to him only a few minuets earlier. He snapped his fingers in an attempt to farsee into his friend’s apartment, and fell to the ground. Ran clutched his chest, feeling as if something was ripping his heart out through his ribs. Pain rippled through his body, and he whimpered, crawling towards the shower.
Cold water sprayed onto his clothing, sinking into his skin, the pain vanished. Something wasn’t right.
‘I told you that boy was trouble.’ The voice echoed through out the room, but Ran knew he was the only one who ever heard it. Ran looked up to glare at the yellow-black cat, which meet his glare with one of its own. ‘Looking at me like that won’t do you any good, Ran.’
“Shut up Raiju.” He glared at his supposed Para Familiar . “He’s my friend.”
The cat flicked his tail, sparks flying from the carpet, ‘Friendship with the likes of him will only get you into deep trouble, m’boy.’
“You know something, don’t you?” Ran demanded.
‘Only that if he’s gone it’s the best thing that could happen for you… He never was what he appeared to be, and I never could be sure if it really was a friendship.’
“What do you mean?”
‘I mean, to put it bluntly, that he was medaling with you magic.’ The cat scratched its nose. ‘Or at least that’s what I think was happening, either that or sucking away your life force.’
“What are you talking about?” Ran exclaimed, confused. “I thought that could only be done by a vampiric force .”
‘It can be done by any magic force and so by any being possessing magic, you foolish boy!’ The cat hissed, rising to its feet.
“Are you telling me that my best friend wasn’t what he seemed to be?”
‘I am.’ The cat’s piercing blue eyes seemed to bore into his soul. ‘And I don’t want you to go looking for him… and neither would your mother.’

Ping Huo glanced up as the figure entered the room, shadows dancing on the silk screen of the room. “Master Aton, how may I help you?”
“You need to leave.” Aton didn’t bother to look at his friend, sensing his confusion. “I don’t want you here for this Huo! It’s me they’re after.”
“I have a duty to you, not just a samurai warrior but as your friend. I’m staying here to help you.”
“Huo they’ll try to use you against me… I don’t want your blood on my hands.”
“But you already have so much blood on your hands, dear cousin, what’s one more human?”
Huo popped his blade from its casing, but Aton signaled him to stop. “Dragana, I wish I could say what a pleasure it is to see you again, but I can’t.”
“Did you tell your friend there that you are one of the creatures he hunts?” She hissed back.
“He never had to, and as long as he continues his own battle I won’t ask.” Huo stood, gripping the handle of his katana. “Now leave this sanctum.”
“No, I think not Ping Huo. I can’t leave quite yet, I have things to do here.” Huo flew backwards, crashing through the thin screens of silk. “Now Aton be a good boy and tell me where it is.”
“You know I can’t do that Dragana, I can’t tell you where the Kisaba is.”
“Then you leave me no choice,” she snickered, walking over to Huo. She picked him up by his collar. “Tell me what I want or your comrade will die.”
“It doesn’t matter if I die here today, or another time. Aton, don’t worry… My life is not worth the location of the Kisaba.” Huo smiled, “Even if I die, my friend, my spirit shall live on, and I will always be there to help you.”
“You chose death, fine then. So be it for me to stop a fool.”
Aton closed his eyes as the sickening crack of breaking bones filled his ears.
‘Huo’… He woke up, trying to scream, but his throat still held a gapping hole. ‘That dream… It must be a sign. The Kisaba must be in danger!’
“Aton, glad to see you’re awake… there are some things that you need to know.” Sholvin leaned over him. “You see many things have happened since you’ve been out. New York City has been destroyed, we have no leads on that incident… but I do have leads on the case you were working. You were right, it was the kid’s brother… but the kid insisted I assign him the case.”
‘Sholvin, you bastard, tell me you didn’t!’
“I gave it to him, and I know that’s not something you want to support but I outrank you. Aton, I want you to follow the public’s opinion of agents like you, I want you to be his shadow.”
‘Smart move, Sholvin, but stupid move as well… You just let me know something, and it just raised more questioned. What do you have against the Carver kid?’

“Mother, I did what you asked… She is headed towards the Oasis.” Aimi bowed her head, touching it to her folded hands. “Now am I free to take my leave?”
“She is with her Uncle, not the older Maxine?” Her mother hissed, her lips stained red from blood, which coursed down her face. She played with the goblet in her hand. “If you want to leave than go, and take your servant with you.”
“Yes Mother,” Aimi backed slowly out of the cathedral, dragging the shadowy figure with her. When she was well out of her mother’s ear shot she turned and hissed to her companion. “That bitch. Will you be able to do it?”
“Don’t worry m’lady. You will get what you want… But you still have to fulfill the second half of your promise once I find you your army.”
“Then go, Dipak… I know we are both in dire need of feeding, and I have much to do in order to ready for her arrival.”
“You’re sure that once things begin to move your mother and the Paso Firm can do nothing?”
“Of course, by the time things start to move faster we will be too far into things for anyone to even attempt to stop us.” Aimi began to walk away, her hair moving despite the lack of wind. She swept through the shadow, stalking her prey.
‘That bitch of a Mother will never stop me… as for the Paso Firm, its better that he not know about my plans for them, at least, not till he’s ready.’ She smiled, bearing her fangs, ‘Yes… Finally after so many years of entrapment things are finally beginning to move. I must remember to thank Zu for destroying my mother’s enemy and moving things my way.’

“I did it, boss.” The man in the shadow whispered into the phone. “He’s got the job… They’ll cross paths.”
“Good.” A harsh voice answered, hissing on the other side of the line. “Once they meet you know what to do.”
“Boss…” The man stopped short, knowing better than to question orders.
“You want to know why I’m allowing them to meet, right? I want to exact my revenge, slow and painfully… and it will be best once they meet, once they become attached.”
“And what about the—”
“Never mention that, it’s just a myth but its name spoken aloud will bring the Guardian upon us.”
“Okay boss, I’m goin’ to finish this job for ya.” The man hung up the phone, and whistling he hailed a cab. “The airport, you get me there fast I’ll give you an extra fifty bucks.”

Nimue Maxine sank into herself, after witnessing what happened to NYC, after her mother’s death, after the move… She didn’t feel ready to return to school, but her uncle had insisted she start with the New Year. Her only hope had been that her single friend, who she’d meet a few weeks earlier, was in her class… But no, only strange faces started at her when she entered the room.
She blinked realizing the teacher was talking to her. “It’s just Max, please.”
“Oh so polite!” The teacher laughed, “I’m sure that will go away quickly, sit over there next to Rangi.”
Confused Max worked her way to the back of the room, planting herself in a seat next to a tall blonde.
“Don’t worry about the teach’… we all know this isn’t what he wanted to do, so he takes his frustrations out on us.” The boy mumbled, “The names Rangi Shamin, but call me Ran.”
“Thanks… your one of the only descent people I’ve meet in a few months, I appreciate that.”
“No problem… Some times it pays to be nice… but I wouldn’t stick around me and be my friend if I were you…” He sighed, leaning back in his chair.
“And why’s that?”
“Things happen to people who get close to me…”
“Well… Frankly I can take care of myself in most cases and it will be good to have a fr—”
The door burst open and a short boy stumbled into the room. “Sorry I’m late Mr. Johns, but the server crashed again.” He stammered in a thick English accent.
The teacher scowled at the boy, “Just get in your seat so we can begin class!”
The boy slid into the seat on the opposite side of Ran, “I swear he just get worse every day….” Finally he seemed to notice her. “Oh, hi! You must be the new transfer student! I’m Tom Jordan, nice to meet you.”
“Nice to meet you to, Tom.”
“Everyone calls me Jordan.”
“You seem like you know Ran pretty well, mind telling me about these ‘things’ that happen to people around him?” She asked, tuning out the teacher.
“He’s had some friends disappear,” Jordan shrugged, “And naturally he blames himself.”
“Bad things happen all the time, Ran… I should know, I’ve seen them…”
“Quit yammering back there! Ms. Maxine, now tell me what the answer is to the question I just asked!”
“Most ancient tongues that haven’t been translated yet might never be translated due to the fact that not enough samples exist… But with newer programs such as the TAD-CP the ancient texts may become slightly easier to translate...Although subject of computers doing all the translations is highly debated amongst the linguistic and archeological communities. ” She rattled off, rolling her eyes.
“Like I thought you were— Wait. How do you know all that?”
“I do my research, besides my uncle is Professor Kawizaki , maybe you’ve heard of him?”
“Kawi-Ka-Kawizaki! I doubt that.”
“You can see for yourself, he’s coming to pick me up after class,” she sighed.
“Smug aren’t you! Fine, back to the lesson everyone, pick up your books and open up to chapter seven.”
Max smiled slightly to herself, despite her emotional inner turmoil she was beginning to feel better… Maybe this new life of hers wouldn’t be that bad.

Notes:
1. There are three classifications of vampires (although they are simply referred to as vampires by most). They are: Vampires (Those who replenish and feed themselves by drinking blood., these include Incubi/Succubi or those who drink blood to restore their energy, but they use sex as a tool for gathering and acquiring this blood), Ispa Vampires (Those who feed off the energy of their victims in order to replenish or feed themselves, although they also feed off of blood though blood does not replenish much of their energy.), and Arim Vampires (The vampires who feed off a specific type of energy that is pulled from the astral plane, and dreams of their victims, they drink little blood, since most of their energy is replenished through their other methods.). Enlil is an Ispa Vampire.
2. Twins share a connection, at this point in history the connection has been proven by scientific fact. Since Enlil is Emon’s twin (he’s the older of the two) he can feel when Emon is in pain, although in a normal twin relationship one would try to console the other, so when Emon is hurt Enlil gains twice the pleasure from his brother’s pain.
3. Para Familiar- A familiar, common in tales of witch-craft, are commonly believed to be a myth by most modern people who use magic. A Para Familiar is a special classification that was created a hundred years prior to this story. According to rumor Para, once household spirits that appeared in the shape of a cat, snake, hare, or frog, were given a gift by a powerful witch for helping her save her son, and where transformed from wandering spirits into strong, knowledgeable familiars.
4. Life force- although normal humans have a life force it isn’t very substantial, and so only vampires bother to take a human’s life force, giving the drinking of blood a potent addiction. But magical beings (witches, ect.) have strong life force, and although it can weaken them to have it drained, they will not necessarily notice it if it’s drained slowly.
5. TAD-CP: Translating of Ancient Dialects Computerized Program; one of the new high-tech programs intended to translate ancient languages

AN- I know, alot of extra notes on the end… Please be kind if you review I know I’m not really all that great of a writer, but I enjoy writing. This story is relatively old, I got about 20 pages in before school destroyed my writing streak but I am working on it again (among other stories)
