The Cabin
********************** Chapter 1: Settling in *********************
“Are we almost there?” Jessica asked as she rubbed her ocean blue eyes.
“Almost Hun, just about another hour to go” Answered Jessica’s boyfriend Noah.
Jessica smiled and then glanced out the passenger window of the 1968 black impala.
“I can’t believe my parents actually let me have the cottage this weekend” Noah said with a big smile on his face.
“Yeah, I’m surprised” Replied Jessica, as she was reaching into her bag on the back seat to get her cell phone. As she got it out of her bag, she looked at it.
“Shit, no signal” She said, as she sat the phone down on the dashboard.
“Well we ARE pretty far out in the country babe” Noah replied as he looked into the rear view mirror. He slammed on his breaks and startled Jessica.
“What’s wrong Noah?!” Jessica asked quickly, as she looked out the back window.
“I don’t know, I just saw something dash in the woods over there!” He said, pointing into the woods. As he said that, a man tapped on the window. Both Jessica and Noah screamed.
“Please help, I’m lost and I’m looking for Meadows Lake, do you youngings know where it is?” Asked the old man.
Noah slowly rolled down his window, looking at the man.
“I don’t know where it is, sorry” Noah replied, as he started to roll the window back up. Noah drove off quickly as the old man walked away from the car.
“Um Noah, isn’t that where the cottage is?” Asked Jessica, with a serious look on her face.
“Yeah, it’s in meadows lake, but don’t worry Hun everything will be okay” He replied, calming her down and comforting her.
************************* An hour later *****************************
When they finally arrived at the cottage, they started to unpack the car.
“Hun, did you see my cell phone?. I put it on the dashboard and I cant find it now” Asked Jessica, looking under the dashboard.
“No, I haven’t seen it since you took it out” Noah replied, putting a suitcase onto the porch and reaching into his pocket for the keys.
“Weird” Jessica said with a screwed up face. She shook it off and helped Noah bring in the rest of the bags.
“I’ll go get the last bag” Noah said, kissing Jessica on the cheek. He went outside to the car. Jessica smiled and sat down on the couch. She glanced around at the huge cottage. Noah came in with the last of the bags and closed the door behind him.
“I love it babe” Jessica said getting up off the couch and running over to Noah. Noah kissed her passionately.
“And I love you, beautiful” He said, looking into her eyes. Jessica giggled and then went into the kitchen. Noah followed her.
“Did you find your phone?” He asked, looking over at her.
“No, I don’t have a clue where it went” She said, looking up at him. Jessica walked back into the living room and then opened the door to the yard. She went outside and walked over to the car. She opened the door of the car and seen it sitting on the passenger seat. She picked it up and closed the door. As she was walking back to the cabin, she heard rustling in the trees behind her. She turned around and glanced into the woods. Noah came up behind her and put his hand on her shoulder. Jessica screamed as she turned around.
“Relax babe it’s just me” Said Noah, a bit startled.
“You scared me!” Jessica said, with a half smile. Noah just laughed and hugged her.
“It’s getting dark out, lets go back inside” Noah said, as he looked up into the sky. Jessica just nodded and went inside, shortly being followed by Noah.
When Noah closed the door behind him, he noticed Jessica sitting on the couch holding her phone.
“Hey, you found it!” He said, sitting beside her and putting his arm around her.
“Yup, it was just on the seat. It’s weird though because I looked there before and it wasn’t there” She said, looking from the phone to him. Noah laughed and shrugged it off.
“Let’s go see our room!” He said, getting up and walking towards the stairs. Jessica agreed and put the phone into her pocket. She followed Noah up the stairs and then down a large hallway. She looked around amazed.
“This is our room” Said Noah, opening the door and looking inside. Jessica went inside and looked around wide eyed.
“This is amazing Noah!” She said, plopping down onto the bed.
“I knew you’d like it” Noah said smiling as he laid down beside her on the bed.
“I’m going to get changed into my p.j’s” Jessica said as she got up and walked towards the door. She went downstairs and walked over to the bags. She felt her phone vibrating in her pocket. She sat down on the couch and took it out. She flipped it open and saw that she had a text message. ‘Hmm, unknown sender?’ She thought to herself. She read the text message: ‘I hear the party’s going to be a killer!’ Jessica laughed and replied saying “Yeah, can’t wait”. She closed up the phone and put it back into her pocket.
As she was about to go back upstairs to bed, she noticed the front door was open. She walked towards it and called Noah’s name. She popped her head out and looked around. She looked confused and went back inside. She closed and locked the door behind her. She went up to bed holding her bag.
