Warming a Vampire’s Heart


Chapter One

Leo stretched as his earpiece went off, indicating that it was time for him to get up. He had to get ready for the briefing on his team’s next assignment. They’d been suspended from duty, because of Nate’s last episode of fucking on the job, so it had been a while since their last assignment. He was a good fighter and an excellent sniper but he needed to learn to keep it in his pants. Not that Leo was a virgin or anything; he just didn’t need it 3 times a day like Nate.
Standing up and moving to his closet pulling out his mission clothes, laying them on the bed. They were made of a special material, similar to spandex that would move easily with his body. It was still in the experimental phase and his team was helping test it. He moved toward the bathroom removing his sweat pants on the way, to take a shower, before dressing and going to the meeting.

Rain awoke to his mother’s calls for the 3rd time this week, he’d overslept again. Jumping out of bed he looked at his clock, f*ck he was going to be late again, and this was their first assignment since their suspension. This was going to look wonderful for them.
“Leo’s going to be so pissed.” Rain sighed, rushing to take off his training clothes he’d passed out in the night before and pulling out his mission clothes.
“No time for a full shower, guess I’ll just rinse off” Rain murmured as he ran to the bathroom.

Nate woke up to his earpiece screeching in his ear. Turning his head seeing the girl from the night before, he thought Girl? I thought last night was the man and yesterday morning was the girl? Shrugging he moved to the door, shutting it quietly he ran home.
As he walked into his house, he moved to the kitchen for breakfast. Searching the cupboards and pulling out an energy bar, he starts walking to the bathroom. Once naked, he climbed into the shower letting the water flow over him.

“He’s late again” Leo sighs, looking around as Nate and him waited for Rain to arrive. They were waiting at the entrance of the main building in the hidden colony, both wondering why Rain slept in so much.
“This happens every few assignments you know that, he’s late for everything else why not this too.” Nate chuckled as he spoke. Rain was a good kid, but he just always seemed to get caught up in whatever it was he was doing and forget he had other things to do.
Leo grins at this “Yes, your right, you’d think I’d be used to it by now.” He smiled as he continued “But then he wouldn’t be Rain if he was on time.” He to held a special place in his heart for his shy, absentminded friend and comrade.
In the distance, Nate saw a figure in a black cloak walking toward them. Long white blond hair falling from the hood down this its waist, and piercing blue eyes underneath. “Ah, here he comes” he says. Grinning madly he shouts “Took you long enough Rain, what kept you this time?”
As Rain approaches them, he gives a soft smile. Despite their differences, these two are his best friends. “I over slept please forgive my tardiness” he replies in a polite soft-spoken manner. “Shall we go inside?”
Leo sighs “Let’s get going then” and the three of them proceeded into the building.

Walking out of the building, Leo Kicks the door shut behind him.
“Damn it!” He screams, then in a quieter, but no less angry, voice “A fu*king scouting mission! Who do they think I am? I’m no amateur; I’ve been doing this for seven years! What the hell are they-“
“Relax Leo” Nate interrupts him, reaching up slightly to ruffle his hair. “It’s not the end of the world; they’re probably just easing us back into. We have been out of the game for a few months.”
Leo snarls at Nate, “And whose fault is that?!”
“Hey now, who am I to deny my body its needs?
“If you could fu*king leave it in your pants for five minutes, maybe this wouldn’t have happened!”
“I’m here aren’t I? I haven’t whipped it out yet”
“And the worlds all in shock trust me!”
“Oh you’re just jealous.”
“What?!”
“Just because people want to fu-“
“Nathan will you please stop antagonizing Leo.” Rain stated softly” Leo, can we just go now? The quicker we leave the sooner we can get home.” Rain loved his friends to death, and would die for either of them; however, they were a pain in the ass. Rain was the amateur of the group at age seventeen, having only been on duty for a year. Compared to Leo’s seven, and Nate’s four, he was a small fry indeed.
“Fine!” Leo growls “the sooner we get back, the sooner we can get a better mission. Go get you gear and meet up at the south tunnels” Leo took off at a dash toward his house to get his weapons. He couldn’t believe what those idiots were doing, sending him on a mission like this. He understood the importance of finding out about the new leech in charge, but intelligence gathering and scouting could be done by new teams. Why did he have to do it? This was probably an extended punishment for Nate’s sex habits.
“Oh well, time to go.” He sighs, moving out to meet with Nate and Rain, weapons intact.

“Sorry about that Rain, he’s just so easy when he’s mad” Nate smiles as starts walking away from the building. Leo really was an easy mark. “He needs to lighten up a bit”
Rain sighs “You don’t have to encourage his aggressive behavior you know.” Having already got his weapons around, he followed Nate. “It’s just making it worse.”
“This coming from the one everyone was surprised made it into operations?” Nate’s voice held a teasing note, not wanting to be mean about a sore subject.
Rain smiled, Nate was the only one that could bring that up without him getting sad, or defensive. “Just because I think that things shouldn’t be solved with violence, doesn’t mean I’m not capable on the battle field.” This was routine for them, Nate would make a comment about his views and he would comment on Nate’s incisive sex life.
“No it means you useless on the battle field”
“I’ve saved your neck a few times I believe.”
“Very few”
“Well at least you lived to have sex another day” Rain said with a smile as he waited for Nate’s common reply. He and Leo were the only people to see him like this, like a person.
“Amen to that!” Nate shouted with glee. At this they both laughed and went on their way.

After having met up, the three of them headed out of the safety of their home, and into the woods. Moving through the woods and avoiding main roads like they were taught, they made their way to Amindra, the main city in the area. It wasn’t always called that, however it’d been so long that no one knew what its original name was. It has been over 400 years since the vampires had taken control of the world, 400 miserable years. Only a few humans still fought back, most settling to live comfortably as livestock, if you can call that comfortable. There were a few secret bases, if you will, of human’s around the world dedicated to fighting back, to take back their world.
Making their way into the city, the boy’s stopped into one of the local bars, hoping to pick up some information from the locals. The bar had a mixture of vampire and human alike, mostly human, these places were only kept around to help prevent riot. Looking at each other, the boys nodded prepared to go their separate ways.
Nate scanned the room; eye’s falling on a rather attractive blonde man off to his right sitting at a table with an Arab looking man. If I’m getting information, then I might as well get something for me as well. Nate smirked moving through the crowd on the small dance floor towards the table the man was seat at.
As Nate approached the blond man and his friend looked up at him, curiously. Seeing their red eye’s Nate sadden a bit. I was so hoping to get laid, oh well this just makes it easier. Sending the blond man a flirtatious wink Nate grins, “Mind if I join you?”
The man’s eye’s fall to the shotgun strapped to Nate’s thigh, “That thing is dangerous young one” His voice is surprisingly melodic, for a leech that is.
“I like dangerous things” Nate says with a saucy smile.
The man smiles, his eye’s held intrigue. “As do I young one, as do I”

Leo moved to a low lit corner sitting back to observe the bar. Seeing Nate immediately moving to blond man, and start flirting, he rolled his eyes. Nate was going to get them in trouble again, he always seems to. Letting his eye’s fall to the man’s friend, he noticed that dark skinned man was looking right at him. The man’s red eye’s looking him up and down like he was some sort of candy, but somehow still holding a look of disinterest. Quickly he looked away, the leech’s gaze being to unnerving for him to handle.
“Great, the blond one is probably one to, way to go Nate” Leo muttered under his breath. Oh well, Nate can handle two little leeches. He thought, as he continued to scan the room for possible bleeders.

Rain weaved through the crowd moving toward the bar, mindful not to bump anyone with his bow or quiver. Sitting down he ordered a water and proceeded to listen to the bar chatter.

Taran looked over at the man sitting next to him. He had guts he’d give him that. He grinned as he heard Fathi’s message in his mind.
‘This one’s a hunter my friend, be careful little one.’ Worry etched in his voice.
Taran chuckled as he sent a message of his own back. ‘I know my friend, and that’s what makes it all the more fun.’
Fathi shook his head looking up scanning the room for more hunters. One at the bar and another against the back wall. His eyes locked with those of the one in the back, then looking him over. He was good looking that’s for sure, but he didn’t invite trouble like Taran did oh so often.
Taran smiled leaning forward to flirt with the little hunter. He was intrigued by the cat like eyes of this human, eyes that seemed to peer right into his soul. “So tell me love, what brings one as lovely as you to a place like this.”
