He says: This isn’t a good
idea.

She says: It’s so easy a baby
could do it and you’ve always been such a baby.

He says: But it’ll be weird.

She says: It’ll be weird if
you don’t.

He says: But I like you this
way.

She says: I don’t like it
all.

He says: this will end
everything.

She says: or it will start something
good.

He says: things will be
different.

She says: that doesn’t mean
that it will be bad.

He says: I’ll miss the things
that we did.

She says: We won’t be able to
do those things but that doesn’t mean that we’ve
changed.

He says: I can’t do it, I’m
not that strong. Even if we’re the same people we were yesterday, it’ll never
be the same after this.

She says: is this so awful,
not to be alike anymore?

He says: I’m sorry, Amy, I
just can’t do it.

She says: Fine, Nathaniel,
give me the scissors, I’ll cut my hair myself. Jeez, I can’t believe that my
own twin brother is such a coward.

Author’s Notes: I know that
you’re not supposed to say this, but I really don’t like this story. We had a
guest speaker come in today for my flash fiction class and told us to write a ‘he
said/she said’ story. For all of you that know me, you know that I don’t write class=SpellE>het
, so while the entire class wrote about dysfunctional romantic
relationships, I decided that I was going to write something a little
different. I don’t like ‘he said/she said’ format, I’m not used to it and it’s
awkward. I’d also like to say that no one got this story, though I tried to
make it understandable, I really did. Basically, the story is that the two
characters are twins and though they are fraternal, they still look very much
alike, so they play a lot of tricks on people. One day, the sister decides that
she doesn’t want to look like her brother anymore, so she asks him to cut her
hair but this makes him worry that their relationship will be more distant if
they don’t look like the twins that they are. Everyone thought that the girl
wanted to look like him and he didn’t want that, though until the last
sentence, the guest speaker thought that it was going to be a story about a
couple in which one of them was considering a sex change. I think that that
would have been interesting, but it didn’t turn out that way.
