City Lights
Evan sighed as he poured yet another drink for yet another sleezeball wearing too much cologne. Probably to drown out the suffocating stench of perfume that permanently filled the club. He smiled graciously as the guy handed him the money for the drink, acting the part of the friendly bartender. However, internally, he was frowning.
No matter how happy he seemed to be, he despised his job. He found no enjoyment in working in a strip club, and unlike all of his male co-workers and a few of the females, he didn't like watching scantily clad or naked women prance around. And it was so much worse when they came onto him, because he had to come up with some crap excuse about a girlfriend. He wouldn't mind so much, hell, he'd love it, if they were males. But unfortunately for him, 'Benjamin's Babes' was the only strip club in town. The normal bars in town were either not hiring, didn't hire anybody who wasn't legally able to pour drinks (Evan was 18) or didn't hire people with shady pasts. Evan couldn't even remember his past, that was as shady as you got.
Even was unceremoniously dragged out of his thoughts by another sleezeball demanding a drink, and one for the 'lady' next to him. Evan sighed, but smiled at the customer.
Evan meandered along the deserted streets. His shift had dragged on, but it was finally over and he could go home and get some sleep. He slumped along, his feet dragging. He passed the 24 hour mini-mart, but barely noticed, despite the blinking, neon lights. The senile old owner, who never seemed to sleep, waved at him out of one of the windows, but Evan didn't notice as he started to get lost in his thoughts.
He hated this town. It held his few memories and each of there were terrible and haunted him. The accident which caused him to forget everything and go into a coma. Waking up to find out his family had abandoned him and left town. Searching for him for two weeks, before he found out his boyfriend had been killed in the accident. Hearing his best friend had been raped and had changed to a shell of herself. She was now living alone in a house on the edge of town. He hadn't spoken since it happened and she was just wasting away.
Evan really, really needed to get away. That was when he was struck by an idea. He'd leave. He'd head for a city, he didn't know which. He'd start a new life. A new name, false memories, false personality. Everything would be new. No longer would he be Evan Scott. No, he'd be Xavier Starr. Zee for a nickname.
'Yes.' Evan thought. 'It will be perfect.'
