Casual Corruption

I hold back the tears I wish to cry just so I might appear strong
I sit at a desk alone in the dark as you pull into the driveway and stumble in
The aroma of alcohol lingers about you
For the sake of the little girl curled up on the blanket I stay silent
Your anger is profound and in a way disturbing to withstand
I do not want her to grow up in an house where violence is a common activity
You pretend to be a hard working man and that all the troubles you suffered through are the faults of others
You never take any of the blame
It is always someone else
I huddle away to my computer where I feel safe
I fear for my daughter as I fear for myself
One day he might snap
One day he might do something to take her from me
The passion I mention is not sexual, sorry to disappoint you
There are many forms of passion after all
The sort I experience is the passion of despair and emptiness
I am trapped you see
Trapped...
