Chapter 1
My life as I know it sucks. As far back as I can remember, I’ve always been called a loser or failure. First by my parents, mostly by mom, my dad wasn’t around much. Then by my fellow students, and teachers of my school. Most days I was treated like I had the plague, the unfortunate day they treated me like the school punching bag. Sometimes I wonder why I keep going.
My name is Craig; this is the story of my life. There is one bright light in my darkness I call my life. His name is Cody. Unfortunately he was my only friend, boyfriend. How twisted can that be? I’ll reverse a little and try to explain the situation.
I am what you would call a nerd. I wear thick glasses; my clothes are out of date, they are either too small or too large. My hair was always messed up, no matter how much I brush it. I was just a hopeless cause. Never was able to make friends, so I started sticking my head into books, to get away from reality even if it was just for a little while.
Unlike my friend Jake, who was everything I wasn’t. You can say we are exact opposites in everything. Jack was very muscular, with short black hair, and bright blue eyes, deeply tanned. He was into everything, football, basketball, baseball. He loved sports. He could make friends easily. Hell he even had a fan club going on. (Mostly made up of girls) God how he loved to party. Always going to this person house, that person house.
But to the surprise of everyone, including myself, Jake starting dating this guy named Cody. He was new at the school, but like Jake he was into everything. He became quite popular himself. He joined the track team, and swim club. Between the two of them, they were into every sport, at school. When the news got out, all the girls were bummed out. Some people were weirded out by it, but eventually everyone came around.
Jack and I grew up together, from grade school to high school. He always treated me like his best friend. Never caring what people said about me. Always sticking up for me, even kicking some ass for me. I remember one time when Jake caught Alex, (Alex was one of Jake teammates on the football team) slamming my head against my school locker. Jake came up behind us and grabs Alex and threw him on the floor. Jake jumping on top of Alex, yelling if he ever sees him touching me again, he would make him sorry for ever touching me. Alex apologizes to me, but I can see it in his eyes, I would pay for this for getting Jake involved in this.
That is why this situation is so twisted. Jake is the best’s friend anyone could ask for. Give you the shirt off his back and all I can do is set here and think of his boyfriend Cody. I just can’t help it, every time I see Cody, it’s like a ray of sunshine in this dark world of mine.
“Hey dumb ass, what with the stupid smile on your face?” Alex sneers.
“You have nothing to be smiling about, unless you’re getting off on the beating I’ve been given you after class." Just my luck, all I wanted was just one normal day, without radicals or harassment. Was that so much to ask for. I knew not to beg or plead with Alex; he gets off on stuff like that. Makes him feel like a man, when he hears the fear in other people voices.
I think sometimes, Alex is jealous of me and Jakes friendship. Alex is always strutting around, trying to to get Jake attention. Alex is always polite to me when Jake is around, but when Jake not around, it’s a no hold bars. I know Alex hates me with a passion, he knows I know he’s a phony. That’s all I am going to say about the subject for now.
“Hey earth to faggot, come in faggot.” Shoving my head against the desk. You’re such a fucking loser. Alex laughed, making everyone in the class laugh.
”I’ll pretend I didn’t see that Alex, now set down!”
“Ok, Mr. R.
“You wait until after class, you piece of shit. You’ll pay.”
How did my life, become this away? Why do I even stay here, or even try for that matter. I should just run away, or ended it all. Make everyone happy and just disappear.
“Now students, listen up! We are having a test Friday, over Chapters 14-21, make sure you study them. They will be a major part of your grade this semester. If you miss Friday, there will be no make up test. If you miss you will fail.”
I look over to the empty seat where Cody, should be at. After putting up with all the shit, this day is delivering, my light is not even here for me to look at. God I am pathetic.
“Now students can anyone tell me.” “Sorry Mr. R, for being late. Something came up. I promise it won’t happen again.” Cody said with a little smile.
Mr. Robertson looks up from his desk at Cody, studying him, finally giving a little nod, “try not to let it happen again, please take a seat.”
“I’ll try thanks Mr. R.” Cody walks to his seat behind me.
Ever sense Cody walk into the class room, it was like watching the sun travel across a cloudless sky. Too bright to look at, but to beautiful to turn away.
Cody walks past me and takes a seat. I can hear Alex say something to Cody.
“Hey Cody what’s up?” Alex says pleasantly. This makes me want to puke. Alex doesn’t give a shit about Cody or what is going on with Cody. “Hi Alex,” I here Cody mummer.
“Hey Craig, how are you today?” Jerking my head upon hearing my name, I turn my head and look at Cody. “Nothing much Cody, thanks for asking.”
“Jake wants to see you after class. He has something for you.”
“OK, thanks Cody for telling me.”
“No problem.”
My eyes slid a glance at Alex; he was staring right at me. I could sense his hatred rolling off of him.
Soon class ended, everyone was piling out of the classing room. I’m always the last one to leave. Why hurry for a beating. But this time it was different. Cody was standing their waiting for me. “Come one Craig, Jake is waiting for us in the parking lot.
I didn’t trust what would come out of my mouth, so I just nod at Cody and follow him, out of the school building. This was the last period, so I had all my home work and books with me.
My mind wanted to say so many things to Cody, how much I admire him, what his presents does to bright but my dark world, could he ever love a loser like me. I’m such a loser. How could I even think about saying that to Cody? Jake was my best friend, hell my only friend.
“So Craig, do you have plans for the weekend?” Cody asked not noticing Craig inner struggle.
“No, No plans, you know me Cody, I’m not much a social person.” I whisper wishing I was more like Jake.
“Your very likeable person, you just have to let people see in inner you. I like you, Craig.” Cody said smiling at me.
Shaking my head, “It’s easy for you so say Cody; everyone likes you, and wants to be around you. You’re a very carefree person, everyone one around you wants to bask in you’re ....” I clamp my mouth shut. What am I saying? I need to shut up now. How stupid can I be?
“Come on Craig, there Jake standing by his truck.” I watch as Cody takes off in a jog to get to his boyfriend. Thank god he didn’t notice what I was saying. I should not be surprised about it. No one ever listen to anything I say, why should this be any different.
I watch how Cody runs up to Jake and throws his arms around Jake neck. They are smiling and laughing at each other. How I envy Jake. Jake lowers his face to reach Cody lips for a long slow kiss. I would have to even admit, they looked good together. One light, one dark. They were exact opposites. Jake had short black hair, Cody had long blond hair. Jake was well muscular, Cody was slimmer, but toned. Jake had bright blue eyes, Cody had dark mysterious eyes. Always making you wonder what he was thinking of. I guess opposites does attract.
They did have one thing in common. They both love sports.
Snapping back to reality, I head Jake calling my name. “Hey bro, what were you thinking about. I called your name four times. Are you daydreaming again?”
“Nothing Jake, just trying to give you two some privacy.”
Jakes wraps his arm around Craig neck, squeezing him. “O come off Craig, you’ve seen us kiss before, don’t be shy.” “Look Cody he’s blushing.”
“Ah Jake," Craig said "you wanted to see me, had something wanted to give me.”
“First let’s go and get something to eat. Then I’ve got something for you.”
