Scarlet tears and a broken past

Hey readers, I’m still working on Promise so don’t worry, but I’m introducing a new vampire story that’s a little more in this century and, from my own opinion, full of emo-ness to the extreme. I hope you like it. This idea came from a friend of mine, so whisper a thanks to her if you like it.

Now please, ignore my rambling and enjoy “Scarlet tears and a broken past".'

“Haruka! Look at this!”

The soft musical whining came from a teen sitting at a empty table at the back of the cafeteria. The teen sat on top of the table waving the paper like a flag of surrender, his face looking both heart broken and vexed at the same time, as he waited his friend to come closer to the table. “Another C on a test and my dad will roast my ass!”

A soft chuckle sounded as a slightly taller teen took the paper, lancing down at it, black hair falling in midnight spikes of eyes as dark as the ocean. “Yasu, how’d you get a C?” He teased, sitting down in one of the chairs at the table. “I quizzed you for days for this.”

He smiled softly handing the paper back, his angled black hair hanging long on the front and short in the back, showing off a long, slender swanlike neck.

Yasu let out an annoyed growl. “Haruka, you know what this means, right? No party at Ren’s house. I’m gonna be the biggest loser when we get to high school.”

Haruka shrugged slightly. “You know that Ren’s party is going to just be a bunch of his brothers high school friends getting drunk and doing drugs.” He smirked slightly. “Not my idea of fun…I could always think of better things to do.”

A loud yell from across the lunch room brought Haruka’s blue gaze from his sulking friend.

“Haruka! Don’t forget, practice was cancelled tonight!”

One of the tennis teams co-captains waved at the black haired teen as he walked off. Haruka smiled faintly and nodded, waving back before turning his attention back to Yasu.

Yasu scowled. Almost pouting as he glowered at his friend. “Easy for you to say, you’re already popular.”

Yasu stared at the table with unhappy eyes. He was exactly the opposite of everything his best friend was. “Maybe I’m too plain. My hair is black and cut short just like every other guy around here.”

“Yasu,” Haruka sighed and grinned playfully. “You’re not plain by any means. Sure…you could grow your hair out a little…but it’s not just black….think of it as ebony. Plus you have eyes any girl or guy would kill for. They’re sexy and…enticing. Or haven’t you noticed your eyes are the color of spring violets?”

He smiled faintly glancing away. “Besides…being popular isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I mean, who cares if everyone likes you if you don’t have any real friends? I have at least one real friend so I could care less what everyone else thinks.” He glanced up meeting Yasus purple eyes and smiled warmly. “So what are we going to do tonight? It’s Friday and since the booze and drugs Ren party is out…movie night at your place?”

“Yeah, yeah,” Yasu sighed. “That’s the only thing dad will allow at this time.”

He was thinking about what Haruka had said about his eyes. They were often rumored to be contacts, but when he was upset they changed to a dark blue which set other students off balance and made they wary of the teen. No one even really bothered to talk to him aside from Haruka, though he never really understood why. He didn’t bother questioning it though.

“Ya know, Haruka?” he mused smiling faintly. “If you were one of those other kids and only would talk to me if you wanted to use me, I wouldn’t even care.”

Haruka blinked slightly in surprise.

“where’d that come from?” he asked frowning. “I’d never use you, Yasu. You’re my friend…the only true one I really have.”

He reached out, placing his long slender hand over Yasu’s smaller one and lifted it, placing his lips to Yasus palm winking. “No one will ever use you so long as I’m around.”

He stood, picking up his tray as Yasu looked at his hand, frowning. He lifted up his free hand in a small wave. “See you tonight. Seven as usual.”

“Got ya.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haruka knocked on the front door of the large house, a black duffle back tossed over his shoulder, stocked with movies and the usual junk food. Downstairs in the basement of the house Yasu sat on a large tan leather couch, snacking on a bowl of popcorn already. He hit a button on the intercom on the table, signaling for their butler, Yuri.

“Can you get the door?” he asked and cut the channel turning back to the endless span of commercials on television.

The butler approached the door, opening it to face Haruka. “Master Yasu is downstairs,” he said dryly. “May I take your coat?”

Haruka restrained a chuckle and handed his jacket to the tall pale man. “Don’t work too hard, Alfred,” he said jokingly, smiling at the old man who glowered at him, clearly unamused. He started down the main hallway towards the door that he knew led to the basement.

“Haruka, is that you?” Yasu called from below. “I hope you brought the goods!”

“Yeah, it’s me!” he called laughing. “And yes, I got everything I could find in our pantry what was either A. unhealthy or B. Sweet and or salty.”

He chuckled to himself, walking down the stares. He glanced over his shoulder, an itch forming between his shoulders, feeling as if he were being watched. He frowned slightly and then down the stairs.

He walked over to the couch, sitting himself down with great effort in Yasu’s lap, sighing in comfort. “Love this couch.”

“But you’re on me!” Yasu laughed.

Haruka grinned teasingly down at the other.

“That makes it all the better,” he laughed and rolled to the side, off of the smaller teen. “So what’s first on the list tonight. I have to eleven like always. You know how paranoid mother is.”

“Paranoid of my dad, that’s for sure.”

“I didn’t know I made such an impression on people,” A deep lilting voice called from behind them.

Haruka looked back in surprise, glancing over the couch to see Yasu’s father standing in the basement doorway. The man was tall and built fairly well for a man clearly in his late forties. He had the same black hair Yasu had, but his eyes were a liquid golden brown. He stood, remembering his manners and bowed slightly, smiling. “Good evening sir.”

“No need to do that boy,” the older man smirked. “What’s your name again? I’m sure I’ve heard about you from my son but I’m never able to pull myself away from my work to properly meet any of his friends.”

Haruka smiled uneasily, running a hand through his dark blue black hair. “Old habits die hard. Mother was always big on proper manners. My name is Haruka Yagami. It’s nice to finally meet Yasu’s infamous father figure.”

He cast a teasing glance towards Yasu. “he doesn’t look like a mad scientist.”

“everyone believes so,” Yasu muttered under his breath.

“Very nice,” he laughed softly. “I’m Doctor Kuro Makemahi.” He ignored his sons underhanded comment looking at Haruka carefully. “How is your mother?”

“She’s fine,” Haruka said softly. “She’s always been paranoid I’m going to up and disappear like my father. Thus the horrendous curfew.”

He smiled happily. “But anyway, it was good to meet you sir.”

“You as well,” Dr. Kuro murmured. “have a good evening.”

Haruka watched until the good doctor was out of sight before turning to Yasu with a warm smile. “So which movie’s first? I say we can get in two or three before I have to do the 100 meter dash home.”

“It’s your turn to pick. I want to see a horror movie before the comedy. But nothing too scary.”

Haruka chuckled evilly and pulled a box from his bag. “Nightmare on Elm Street it is. I also borrowed ‘John Tucker Must Die’ from mother. It’s a chick comedy but it’s supposed to be funny.”

He stood, placing the DVD into the player and settled back down on the couch, casually leaning against Yasu as he snagged the bowl of popcorn away from him.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Haruka glanced down, smiling warmly. Yasu had fallen asleep halfway through the movie, uninterrupted by the screams of the dying teenagers. He’d twitched and almost thrown Haruka off the couch at one point.

He maneuvered slightly, so the smaller teens head was in his lap. He stroked Yasu’s hair, slowly before glancing at the clock. It was ten to. He let out a heavy sigh glancing down at yasu who was sleeping peacefully. “Guess my time’s up,” he whispered.

He stood slowly, cradling Yasu in his arms easily for a moment before laying him back down on the couch, turning off the power on the television.

“Haruka…”

The teen blinked, glancing over to Yasu, smiling faintly. “Hey, just go back to sleep, okay?” he said softly. “I have to go or Mother will have a fit.”

“Haru, as popular as you are with the ladies, how come you’ve never dated one?”

Yasu yawned deeply, in a futile attempt to fight sleep. He didn’t notice harukas eyes widen slightly or flash sadly when he smiled with a weak chuckle.

“Just not interested,” he whispered and stroked Yasus hair back from his forehead, watching longingly as the smaller teens eyes drifted shut once more. Bending over he gently placed a chaste kiss on Yasu’s lips.

“you’ll never know how much I love you, Yasu Makemahi…,” he said, his voice laden with sadness. “But as long as I’m with you…it’s not so lonely.”

He turned off the lights as he went up the stairs. He grabbed his jacket from the closet and slipped on his shoes, approaching the door. He rested his hand on the brass knob, sighing softly. “Good Night, Yasu,” he murmured, opening the door.

“Now where are you heading off to?”

The hushed similar voice startled Haruka as he turned around to face Dr. Kuro, Yasu’s father. The wind from the open door rustled his angles hair around his pale face as he let out a weak laugh, smiling just as weakly.

“Dr. Makemahi,” he said softly. “You startled me.”

He shifted slightly, staring at the man. “Yasu fell asleep and I have to be going home now. Mother will worry if I’m late.”

“But you are home,” the doctor smirked. “Don’t you wish to be close to my son at all times?”

Harukas eyes widened slight. He opened his mouth to speak but nothing came out. “I…I’m not sure what you mean sir, but…I must….I really need to be going.”

He felt a small chill race up his back. He hadn’t exactly hidden his attraction to Yasu at school. Playfully teasing all the time, but he knew he wasn’t that obvious.

“well, I can’t accept no as an answer. This is your new home.”

Dr. Kuro grinned coldly as the butler, Yuri unrepentantly gained on Haruka from behind, knocking him upside the head, sending the teen crashing to the ground.

“The only difference is that you’ll never leave here, nor will you see my son or any other life form other than my selected.”

He purred, cooing his words softly, knowing they were faint to the still teen. “Take him down to the lab and we shall begin.”

Harukas vision faded in and out as he was lifted into Yuris arms. He felt the warmth of blood drip down from his temple where he’d been struck. As his vision faded to black, a single word escaped his lips.

“Ya…su...”
