Mother
She slides to the morning-bright kitchen floor, weeping.
Trembling hands that can hold on to a thin blade better than reality fumble with the amber child safe bottle.
Salvation; skittering across the tiles like so many tiny rainbows
Painting her portrait of self-loathing on the floor for all to see.
Green, Yellows, Blues & Whites...the colors of a traumatized youth encapsulated are oh so pretty.
She looks up into her child’s questioning blue eyes, and tells her:
"It never mattered anyway."
And drowns her memories and past with a chaser of coke.
Taste the rainbow.
