The Return
Lady “Mystic” Death walked through the double doors of the antique-looking tavern and placed her floor-length velvet cloak on a brass rack nearby. She let down her waist-length black and silver streaked hair and put her hair band away. Her knee-high leather combat-style boots clanked loudly with each struggled step as she made her way to a stool at the bar. The bartender arrived and she ordered a bloodscotch. She took a sip and looked down at her bare, toned stomach. The foot-long gash could clearly be seen, some blood was still dripping from it. She winced. At least she has her black midriff tank on so it didn’t ruin her top.
“Well hello there stranger.” She jumped and splashed the rest of the drink down her front and her skin-tight leather pants. She screamed in pain as the alcohol stung her open wound.
“Holy shit!” Mystic turned to face the direction of the voice. “If you don’t fuckin’ leave I swear I…” Her mouth dropped, her pain forgotten. She hasn’t seen him for…. forever. Why? Why now? “S…Sirius???” Sirius gasped in apology. He didn’t see the gash on her stomach since she was leaning against the counter.
“Love! I’m so sorry!!” He grabbed a clean towel from the bartender and cleaned off her clothes and then her wound. He looked down with worry etched on his face. “My Love… what happened to you?”
She couldn’t think. She thought she lost him. The last time she saw him was right next to her before she fell asleep after the most passionate move-making she ever experienced. They shared their blood together. They were supposed to be one. Yet…the following morning when she woke, he was gone. Her head snapped back up and her brow burrowed. Anger was building.
“Where the fuck have you been?” She screamed. “It’s been 20 years since you left me!” She stood, almost knocking the stool to the ground. She backed away towards the hallway where her personal chamber was. Sirius took a few steps towards her. He sighed and you could see his shoulders fall.
“Look, I’m sorry about that, I can explain.” He looks at her wound. “Please, let me heal you. It’s the least I can do for what I’ve done to you.”
Mystic turned around and ran to her chamber at the end of the hallway. She slammed the door and slumped to the floor in a heap of tears. She wiped off her face and looked around at her room, where at one point, Sirius and she was enjoying life in each other’s arms. Her ebony-stained grand piano stood in the corner, opened up and ready to play. The walls covered with ornate weaponry collected throughout her immortal life. Her Rosewood armoire was opposite the piano, and a matching four-poster bed at the back of the room covered with thick, red velvet curtains and silk bedding the same shade as her curtains. She didn’t have much else to cherish in this world. Sirius slammed his fists against the door by now.
“Let me in, please?” She could almost hear his tears. She covered her face again. Should she let him in? This room hasn’t been the same since he left her. After Sirius’ pounding ceased, she rose to open the door. She stepped back quietly, and had a solemn look on her tear-stained face.
“Why?” It was all she could ask. Sirius stepped closer but once again she stepped back equal distance. He had to tell her. He had no choice now.
“I was taken.” He lowered his head before he continued. “After you finally fell asleep I just laid there, watching you sleep. You looked so beautiful; I couldn’t keep my eyes off of you. I had no warning when the next thing I knew I was blindfolded and felt like I was held up by chains.” Sirius moved quickly and was finally able to grab hold of her. She struggled in his grasp.
“Let. Me. GO!”
“No, not until you hear my story. On how I longed for you in the last 20 years. I was in Hell, Mystic.” She stilled when she heard her actual name. He was the only one that knew it and somehow the sound of his voice still calmed her. “I was beaten to the point of death, then was ruthlessly revived back to life, only for it to start all over again.” He released her and went to take off his white tee shirt. She gasped. Scars, some small and some longer than her gash were all over his body. Some looked old, other’s looked relatively new.
“What? I…I thought you can heal?”
He nodded silently. “I can, however these scars weren’t made by normal means.” He gently took her hand and let her fingers travel across some of the larger scars. “They made a weapon out of my own flesh and bone. I can never heal from that.” Her fingers continued to travel on their own accord and he tilted her face up to look in her eyes. “I fought so hard to get back to you love.” He leaned forward to lightly kiss her on the lips. She moved away after the kiss.
“H...How did you get back?”
Sirius pulled her back into his embrace and sighed. “I had to sacrifice what I was to be back here with you. I….I’m Mortal.”
Mystic gasped. She didn’t know he felt this way for her. All this time she had forgotten him, had other relationships. And now that he’s returned, she still can’t be with him forever. “Mortal? But that means…”
Sirius put a finger to her lips to silence her. “Not entirely. There may be a loophole.”
“Loophole?”
He nodded. “You can change me back.” She looked confused so he continued to explain. “Just do a few things for me and I’m back to how I was when I first met you.”
“What few things?” She backed away and sat on top of the wooden chest at the foot of her bed. Sirius followed and sat down next to her. He caressed the side of her face.
“Simple. Bite me.”
“That’s only one thing. You said a few. What else needs to be done?” She pulled his hand from her face. Sirius blushed at this point. He was embarrassed to say it, but he needed to.
“Make love to me. You see, I was also returned to the purest form. I’m untouched.”
“So you’re basically telling me you’re a virgin again.” It was her turn to blush. Sirius shrugged his shoulders.
“Basically. Even though mentally I have all the memories intact, my body doesn’t remember how it feels.” She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. He’s been gone for 20 antagonizing years and now all of a sudden he’s back and he expects her to take him back in an instant. She looked back at her bed then into Sirius’ face. She remembers those eyes, even from 20 years ago. The eyes that have pierced her soul. She couldn’t turn him down. Could she? Mystic rested her hands in her head and closed her eyes. Her head was reeling from the headache that was forming. Everything was just coming back so fast. Sirius tilted her head back up and looked into her eyes.
“Love, are you okay? I know it’s a lot to take in. If you don’t want to I can understand.” He kissed her on her forehead. She sighed and stood up and walked a few steps away from him.
“I’m tired. Let me think about it, please?” She had such a tired and pleading look on her face. She walked over to the bed and sat on its soft mattress. She stared at it. Many men have laid here with her, but Sirius was her first. Could she even deny him the chance to come back?
Mystic looked back up, Sirius was only a few feet from her. “Not tonight.” Sirius sighed in disappointment and started to walk away. Mystic grabbed his arm. “But sleep with me tonight. Please?”
“It will be my honor to.” He sat down next to her and kissed her again. Mystic stood and removed her shoes and pants. She pulled back the silk sheet and slid between them. She closed her eyes and heard Sirius undress and felt the bed bend when he laid next to her. She felt his hand wrap around her injured stomach, the blood now dried. She winced, hoping her body didn’t move to startle Sirius. She had to admit, feeling him next to her again, she finally felt like she belonged somewhere.
Suddenly a blue light appeared under the blanket. She gasped in surprise and lifted the cover to see where the light was coming from. It was his hand. A brilliant blue light surrounded his hand and it was above her wound. She watched astonished as her wound cleaned up and sealed itself. When the light went away, it look liked the wound was never there. She looked back at Sirius. He looked like he was already asleep… minus the big smile on his face.
“Well hello there stranger.” She jumped and splashed the rest of the drink down her front and her skin-tight leather pants. She screamed in pain as the alcohol stung her open wound.
