Chapter 1

I looked up at the night sky, there were thick dark clouds, looked like there would be rain. What a dark, moist night, no starts or moon, no light. We arrived at our new house after driving all day. We were tired, and yet tomorrow there would be more to do, packing up all of our stuff, cleaning, stress. Asami had fallen asleep and we left her in the car until we got the door open. Mother looked for the keys, but in the poor light outside the door it took her some time. I was in sleeping modus, barely noticing anything around me, except that it was dark, and it was late, and I desperately needed a soft bed. My mom finally got the door open and she immediately walked in, started to shout about the lights, found them and then I went outside again. My poor eyes... And my poor ears. I went back to the car, allowing my father to walk inside with my brightly awake mother. Asami still sleeping in the backseat, she looked so cute. I had the most adorable little sister, everyone told me so. And she was lucky to have me as a sister, when comparing, she was the sun and I was.. A rock on earth, so simple and ordinary, no one would notice me at all. If it wasnt for one thing though, but I didnt know whether it was good or bad.

I had really, really long, red hair. I dont know why, I just kept it growing, and hardly ever thought about cutting it. It was unpractical, that was the only problem I had with my hair. I leaned against the car, looked up at the entrance. The door was almost closed and only a thin stripe of light passed through. I noticed something white in the grass by the stairs. Curious I walked over to it, a piece of paper? I picked it up and saw that it had something written on it, it looked like a poem. '...something.. something, Advent, blessing...' I couldnt read it, there was not enough light. I put it in my back pocket, went back to the car and picket up Asami. She didnt wake up, children sleep so heavily. Either that, or she pretended to still be asleep so that someone would carry her.

That night we all slept on mattresses.

"Helle!" *grunt* "...go away..." "Get up, Helle, we got a lot to do, we better get as much as possible done today since you two wont be able to help out as much tomorrow!" "..whaaat..?" "School, Helle! Oh, just get up now! Asami's been up for hours already!" "..mhmmm.. exaggerating.." 'yeah, right, finally shes gone.. sleep...' Suddenly something fell upon me and started to jump up and down on my back while singing out loud: "The sun is up, but Helle is not, she'll sleep forever, all through the night, and never ever ever will she feel the hot light of love, for she has slept her life away and now its gone and..." I flipped around and threw Asami on the floor, she screamed and tried to get away, but I grabbed her leg and pulled her back, placing my hand over her mouth. "You know what will happen when you wake up the dead?" I whispered in her ear. "They'll come for you...." And then I started tickling her, she screaming, me enjoying the fact that she was only 9, and had no muscles whatsoever, while I was 16 and had build up a little while fixing my hair every morning. I let her go and she ran away like a rabbit that had luckily escaped from a wolf. 'Well, god damn it, she managed to wake me up... Might just get up then and get moms breakfast speech.'

You might wonder about my name, Helle. The name is actually Hell, just like that, but ever since we got to America we realized that we needed to change it a little. But not to much, so we just put on an extra -e. That way it looked better in writing. People could pronounce it as they liked, I didnt care. It was cool sometimes. At least it was a little more special than the true meaning of my name. What it originally meant? Maybe I'll tell you sometime...

It was Monday already. Sunday had been a long day, but I wish there where more days between Sunday and Monday. The truck with all of our stuff had arrived the day before us and had put all the boxes and furniture inside the house, right at the front door. Everything had to go in place. Me and Asami shared a room, but it was big enough, and I made sure to place our beds as far as possible from each other. She was to sleep by the window while I would lay in the darkest corner of the room. Morning sunlight burned my eyes, I couldnt stand it. I was much more of a night person. Anyway, Monday had blessed us with its arrival and Asami and I were rushed of to school. It was springtime and the air was fresh and cold in the morning. There were still some spots of snow laying here and there, but the grass began to green and the trees had all these little light green sprouts. The clouds from earlier were gone now and the sky was bright blue. Asami tiptoed in front of me, filled with energy while I was moping behind. I had skipped breakfast just to be able to sleep an extra 10 minutes and I was grumpy as hell.

The school wasn’t to far away, so we could walk there, it was about a 20 minutes long walk. As we approached, I saw that the school-building was huge and it looked so old. It was like an old mansion, or castle, and I loved it. I started dreaming about it being filled with huge ballrooms and thrones and treasures. Asami was also fascinated. "I wish we could live in a house like that!", she said. "Its hardly a 'house', Asami, its to big for that..." The school yard had huge fences surrounding it, and behind the fences where large bushes, and behind the bushes again was a yard that would fit a queen. There were students walking around, most of them heading for the entrance to the building. I noticed them staring and pointing at me. Then I noticed something dark moving at my right side, I turned around, but there was no one there...

Well inside Asami and I looked for the offices to get instructions to where we should go, and which class to attend to. The hallways were big and many, and in dimension they were everything I could have wanted them to be, but the nobleness of them were gone, there were only lockers and some paintings of teachers or politicians or whatever. People avoided me, so I sent Asami out to ask for directions. She didnt have any trouble with that, and soon enough we were at the principals office.
