Wind In The Rosebush

chapter 1:::::The Raven, the rabbit, and the wind

Prologue year: 60,000 B.C

A pale woman dressed in all white strode across a courtyard filled with dying red roses. Reaching the center of the courtyard the woman turned her head towards the west, where the sun was setting and stared at the black spot that slowly crept closer through the sky to the courtyard.

As the black spot drew closer the woman lowered her hood. Pale hands lifted the heavy braids that were once hidden beneath the cloak, untying the ribbons the woman in the cloak slowly brushed the long silver hair out. The black spot finally took form, and the woman smiled, she lifted her hands in a greeting as the black spot slowly descended from the skies. Two feet touched the ground, and the man clothed in black pulled back his hood.

The man and woman stared at each other for a long moment, her charcoal black eyes meeting his deep burgundy red eyes. The man spoke first, “you haven't changed Kyra” the man let out a rough laugh. “Same eyes, same smile, and same beautiful moon, pale skin. You always did have an unearthly beauty.”

Kyra smiled. “Well Rave neither have you. Your still have the same body builder form but you still have that look of youth and love in your cinnamon skin.” Kyra raised her hand to Rave’s cheeks, caressing the smooth, tan skin. Looking into his eyes Kyra saw a smoldering passion, a thousand years of locked away love and lust.

Her hand wandered to the back of his neck and pulled him down so that their lips were a centimeter away. “Now, Rave, show me how much you missed me.” She jerked his lips onto hers, for a deep and hungry kiss. After a minute she pulled away; taking a step back so she wouldn’t be temped again. She desperately tried, and failed, to contain her ecstasy at seeing her love for the first time in one thousand years.

Rave however felt no reason to contain his joy at seeing his love once again. Lifting Kyra up by the waist he swung her around laughing. She laughed as well, and when he set her down she looked up into his eyes. She saw everything that she wanted to see. A cool breeze blew by them, forcing them to both look to the direction of the breeze.

There a few feet away in the center of the courtyard there was a third figure, this one didn’t look completely solid, like he was part of the wind and sky; a ghost and illusion. He hovered there watching the two older ones, with eyes full of sorrow, but joy, and the eyes were also filled with years and years of wisdom beyond the boy’s age.

The child stepped forward, or more glided forward. “Kyra, Rave. It’s…it’s…I really…missed you.” The boy’s voiced echoed of the air itself, giving it a more mysterious and godly tone.

“Eon, it’s so good to see you too, you look the same.” Kyra stepped forward, and tried to pull the younger boy into a hug, but he merely stepped through her, literally, and Rave. He walked towards the west, towards the single bench that sat at the edge of the courtyard.

Sitting he said, “its’ been a thousand years, and you two still love each other more than anyone. I can’t seem to believe it. Or want to believe it.” He muttered the last part. The couple strode arm in arm toward Eon. “In a way I’m so happy for you, but it’s time that we need to finish our duties,” he waved his arm around, showing them the dying roses that surrounded them.

“I wish I had some one that ties me to this earth, but it’s not so.” It’s a lie but I’ll let them believe it, after all a heart for a heart right? Eon smirked; oh how low and cruel could he be?

Kyra stepped forward, tears forming. “Eon, please there must be a loop hole for us, for you anything.” She choked, but continued, “we love you… you can’t just leave us…what will happen? How will we get by?”

Eon stood quickly. His eyes turned cold, the wind picked up speed and dried rose petals started flying, Eon’s body faded in and out of the wind, like dust in a beam of light; it was there one moment gone the next. “I don’t care, and no there isn’t.” his voiced echoed of the air still, but it had taken a more piercing tone to it, like nails on a chalk board.

“After earth’s creation, we were born. Kyra you are the daughter of the moon and the sun, Rave you are the son of the darkness and the hatred. And I am, well that is my secret…the point we were created for a reason, and in the name of the Goddess Savanna we will finish what was started.”

Eon took a shaky breath and laughed, a cruel laugh hardened by years of hatred. “Our job was simple; make sure that the development of Earth went smooth and clean. And if we finished the job on schedule we would die happy knowing that we helped humanity start.”

Eon sat back down, and obviously ignoring the other two lifted his hand up to a few inches away from his mouth. He blew softly on his fingers and smiled at the way they blew away like smoke and then reassembled. “But nooooooo, you two just couldn’t accept the fact that, eventually, we would die. So you both asked me to ‘talk’ to the Goddess to see if there was a loophole."

Eon gave a long sigh and continued. "So she took pity on us and gave us away to escape death; if two of us fell in love, real love then those two would live forever and the third would accept their death sentence as planned. “At this Kyra and Rave gulped; they both remembered what had happened tens of thousands of years ago…

Lost in memory Kyra and Rave were both surprised out of their wits when Eon whispered “nostalgia; beautiful isn’t it,” right into their ears. They both whirled around at the same time to find Eon swirling in white smoke. His solid form had dissolved in the thick smoke and all you could see were a pair of eyes.

The smoke blew away in the wind, and a soft laugh rang out over the courtyard. Kyra and Rave huddled closer to each other and to the wall. They had seen this side of Eon only once before. They were dealing with a relatively simple demon, a menki-queeria; an ice dragon. Eon had been hit with a blast if the dragon’s ice wind and for some reason it activated the change in him.

An enormously powerful gust of wind hit them forcing them to look towards the center of the courtyard. There sat Eon on a giant feather bed; laughing softly at them. They blinked in shock. And when their eyes opened milliseconds after, Eon was gone. Turning their heads towards the breezes’ direction they saw him standing not too far away holding a simple rose seed in his upturned hand. “Well it’s your bed; go look at it.”

Kyra was draw out of Rave’s arms past Eon to the bed. Sitting down on its softer surface drew her in. Eon continued, “Since you two fell in love…well you will live forever, and when you believe the time is right you shall pass you powers and guardianship to whomever you deem worthy so that those two may continue to serve the goddess.”

“But, friend Eon what will happen to you?” Rave had followed Kyra but had stopped next to Eon.

“Well, that’s easy Rave, I die.” He lied, but there was no need to tell them.

“You can’t!” Kyra screamed, running towards Eon she tried to give a hug but he stepped to the side. Kyra tripped and fell into Rave’s arms; looking into her hero’s eyes, she saw, again, everything that she needed.

“Yes I can, you don’t get to choose.” Eon spat at them, the wind picked up more speed; the seed in his hand fell to the ground and buried itself into the travertine floor. Almost instantly rose vines sprang up, and started to twirl around Eon to form a cone. Once it had fully covered Eon an eyes shaped hole opened up so that they could see both his pure silver eyes. Eon turned back to them, giving them a sad smile, “I loved you guys, once so very long ago.”

The hole closed up, and suddenly they felt the earth rumble. Great stone triangles rose from the earth and covered the rose cone in a giant pyramid. The giant stones slowly started to rise into the sky; and pulsed. Rose petals flew up towards the pyramid, and covered it so nothing was seeable. Rave and Kyra stood huddled together staring at the huge pyramid.

Kyra pulled away from Rave and slowly raised herself into the air so that she was a breath away from one of the pyramids sides. She tentatively reached out and touched the wilted rose petals. In an instant the rose petals flew at her attacking her, blowing her out of the sky onto the bed with a powerful gust.

Rave stared at the empty sky where the pyramid had once been; a single tear slid down his cheek. He blew a kiss towards the sky and whispered, “Forever mine; my first love.” He then dropped his robes and went over to the bed to comfort Kyra, with the act of sex.

High above in the clouds Eon laughed his head off; he was free! Flying into the slowly setting sun he only had one question.

Fiji or France; for the next 60,000 years?
