Murdered Twice

My eyes fluttered open to the darkness of the room we had shared since we were little. My bed is on the right wall, it has always been. We've never switched it even though I hate it. I always wake up facing the wall and I've got a little fear of the dark, I liked to be able to keep my eye on the rest of the room. I rolled over under my blankets to face into the room. One of the interesting things about being a twin is that you share a connection unlike other siblings; sometimes you just sense things between each other, wordlessly. And it's times like these... I can just feel it, something is wrong. I tried to see my sister laying in her bed across the room. The darkness was thick and even squinting, I couldn't see far enough. "Marcie?" I whispered into the room. She didn't answer. I sat up in my bed and called again, "Marcie Lynn?" but again, the silence was deafening. I placed my feet on the floor and stood with my hands searching for the small lamp next to my bed. I found it and switched it to the left; nothing happened. I turned it again and again but the light did not turn on. My heart pounded loudly in my ears and I swallowed hard, my throat was dry. Sliding my feet across the floor I made my way towards her bed. Soon enough the edge of her bed knocked me softly in the knee and I bent down to feel for her. I reached all the way across the bed and back with both hands and didn't feel her. The bed was warm though, she couldn't have gone far. My breath caught in my throat, this wasn't like my sister. She didn't get up in the middle of the night and she most certainly didn't do anything with out me, we tell each other everything, we do everything with each other. I was scared. I shuffled quickly across the room in search of the ceiling light switch. My outstretched hand hit the wall and I slid it along to the left until I felt the door frame; a little to the right I found the switch and flipped it. My eyes needed to adjust to the sudden burst of light but I saw that the bed was indeed empty. I looked around the room, nothing seemed out of place. I thought I would have noticed if the door had opened and closed again and the window was shut. Even if it were open, we sleep on the second floor. My eyes fell upon our closet door and I stepped slowly towards it. "Please, please, please..." I whispered to myself. I couldn't decide which was worse, finding her in the closet or not finding her in the closet. I placed my hand on the knob and swung it open quickly. My heart sank and my stomach tightened; it was empty. I shut the door again and paced back over to the bedroom door. I opened it and it lead into the hallway outside our room. Off of the hallway was our bathroom and our brother's room. The light from the room flooded into the hall. I stepped out into the hall and headed towards our bathroom. Passing the top landing of our stairs I felt something wet under my foot and paused, looking down. I lifted my foot and held it towards the light from our room, my heel was stained red. I grew dizzy as my mind raced. I looked down at the floor where my foot had just been; a small river of red liquid was spilling slowly down the stair case. I was going to be sick...
