Prologue
Yay my first original fic, hopefully I'll be able to continue it all the way through >>; I got this idea when I was reading a story teaser on AFF.

The creature glanced down through the foliage and swung his legs excitedly, watching travelors try to escape the dark forest was amusing. Barely any light could make it through the branches, leaving the strangers unable to see. But he, yes he, could see perfectly. Unfortunitly this group was diffacult, there was a young male among them that did not easily panic. He was begining to grate on this creatures nerves, he wished to see him lose his cool and prove just how weak human's minds were. He sprung trap upon trap on them, but the young man never lost his cool, he was determined to escape the forest. Finally, after all the others had fled and only the boy remained, the creature lept down from it's sheltered branches and confronted the human.
He was mildly surprised when the boy showed no fear, it was not like he appeared too inhuman. He was alot like the darkness, not the same but not completely different. He held no true form, and often chose to appear more human-like to lull them into a false sense of security. This appearance did not work on the human, he appeared to know that this creature had been the one to freighten the others. The creature became angry at the smug mortal and forced it's body into a grotesque form, with many claws and a tough hide. But still the boy was not afraid, for he knew he had something to defeat this creature, something very special. As the dark creature launched it's attack, the boy pulled a small purple jem from his cloak and held it before the beast.
A great wind swept through the forest and the trees seemed to cry out in anger as the darkness was sucked into the small jewel, the creature that had become a beast was slowely swollowed up by the jem's power. A cry of anger rang through the forest as all darkness disappeared and the dark forest became to forest of light once again. The boy disappeared without a trace, the purple crystal was said to be hung from his very neck as he left the village behind...

The children huddled together in a circle around the old women as she told the story of how the creature of darkness had been captured. A fire roared in the centre of the large tent, keeping it's occupants warm in the dead of winter. A small girl gasped excitedly as the story ended, and her eyes glinted as if they held many new questions to ask. The room remained silent for but a few more moments before one of the children was brave enough to ask the question.
"But..but what was the boy's name?" A smile grew onto the elderly women's face and she pulled her cloak closer.
"Kalai Okasta from the great mountians of the northern province."

(1)Kalai is pronounced Kah-lie, and Okasta is pronounced Oh-Kah-Sta, just so you know
I'm fairly happy with how this turned out, I wantted the beginning to sound like someone was telling a bedtime story, I hope it sounded like that >>;
