Moon Light Killers

The sun had set hours ago. Fading back into the earth as it always did. The moon, which Niya could see for most of the day, was out in full shine lighting the land as if trying to out do the sun. But thou the moon was full it did not seem so grand on this night. In truth it looked small and help less in the sky. It's lite casting away familiar stars that would normally shine all around it when not in full glow. She had always admired the moon for it's power over so many things like the pull of the tide, or making lovers sigh in it's light. To beckon the wolves to sing to it and to mystify all. Such a plain simple thing, a dead rock in the sky, but so important to all who see it. But Niya had her own reason for liking the light of a full moon. It was the best time during the month to do night hunting.

In her life now there were few grate joys to push back to every day torment and boredom, and night hunting was one of them. There was something so thrilling about hunting in the moon light. To see the shimmering of the sky on the back of her pry be for she moved to strike, the way the animals seemed to be more alive on full moon nights. Hunting down a rabbit in day light was simple and at times unfair in her mind to the animal, not that it ever stopped her from killing it. But during this time every thing to her seemed fair. She was already deep in the forest and keeping herself silent she climbed a thick tree to get a better vantage point to find her food.

Thou the forest was thick and the three tops would like to hide the moons light it could not. The wind would rustle the branches and leaves letting the moon shine in and bathe the forest floor in silver beams. It would take time to find an animal do to the density of the forest but it just made the hunt a little more fun. The moon had as it seemed a strong pull on Niya as it did the tied.

Following the trail of the small wild pig was not an easy task. Niya even found herself needing to use a trick she had picked up a year ago from a Older sorcerer she had been employed by to kill a few people. It was her payment from slaying a small hand full of mindless fighters that had been bothering him. The trick was a simple spell that made her night vision much better. Using spells was not something Niya took to doing vary often but little spells like that one were easy to cast and could be done almost all in her mind. Stopping in her tracks Niya stood silent and still. Her body strait and eyes closed as she started to chant in a vary low whispering voice.

"Demon night I call for site, show the paths your shadows hide. Add your strength to my weakness, I call for your eyes"

It was a short but useful spell. When Niya opened her eyes again the night seemed so much brighter to her. The moons beams that cut threw the stretched out branches were like that of the sun. But even still it was not day light and the site would only last an hour or so. She new from past uses that it would start to fade. But she did not think she would need it to long with her eye site heightened she started off tracking. It was a lot easier now.

----------------------------------------------------

It had been a few hours sense the sunset and it was safe once more for the half breed vampire to travel again. His footsteps were quiet as he ran down what looked like a deer path. The grass was shifted to the side from the animals that had ran through it in the past few days. On the ground their were hove marks that resembled a deer while smaller paw marks that looked like raccoon feet crossed over each other

The half breed was a tall man of 6'2'' his upper body was covered in a black sleeveless vest, with no shirt covering his muscular broad bare chest. His legs were covered in loose fitting black pants that went down and covered the tops of his black boots. His long strait black hair extended down to just below his neck while his band hung a little past the wolf mask he had covering his entire face.

As he continued to run through the forest the half-breed caught the smell of something all too familiar in the air. The smell of a human came across his nose and it made him stop his run. He lifted his head into the air and smelled it again. The sent was definitely human but it was more then that it came off as a little sweet. Under his mask he smiled when he knew the sent was of a human woman. As he turned to face the direction the sent was strongest Rhage took off in a dead run. As he continued to run the all too familiar hunger came over him. His vampire side wanted out to feed on the blood of the human but he had to find her first.

"Run my pet, when I catch you I will feed again."

The sweet sent of a woman tingled all his senses as he remembered the last women he fed off of three days ago. She was a woman who worked as a tailor. She had stepped outside of the shop she worked in and was hanging the cloths she made out to dry from just washing them. Rhage stayed in the shadows between two buildings as he waited and stalked the women.

As her back was turned to him he made his move on her. The sun was covered over by a dark cloud so he came from the shadows and wrapped his left arm around her waist as his right hand moved and covered her mouth so she couldn't’t scream. He backed himself and the women into the shadows of the building keeping his hand over her mouth as be bit down on her neck breaking the skin with his fangs to drink from her. The woman's body jumped each time he took a drink, when he had his fill of her he felt a tear coming down her then pale face before he used one fluid motion and broke her neck. Letting her body go it slumped to the ground in a pile with her life already lost to the night.

It was a good meal he had that day. The blood was sweet and intoxicating. It was too bad the villagers attempted to kill him and he had to leave. Everyone he had fed off of in that town filled his blood lust. As his mind snapped back to the present he found himself running still. He soon found himself at a tree were the smell from the women was strong.

"Mmm she was here recently, Keep running my pet soon you will be mine."

He sniffed the air again and once again had the intoxicating sent of a woman come over him. Before he began to run again he looked up into the moon light and howled much liked a wolf. His wolf mask on covering his face seemed too smile eerily as he took off again.

Tracking the hoof prints of the wild pig was starting to get hard again after a run in with a shallow but wide stream. Its prints had led into the water but she could not find none on the other side of the stream. Best she could tell was that the pig had started to run ether up or down stream. The waters had wash away any hints of the animal’s tracks in the streams floor and it was shallow and slow enough that the pig could of gone ether way with little trouble. Niya made a mix between a huff and a low growl in frustration. This meant combing the rivers edge or finding something new to track.

Just as she was about to head down stream to look for were the pig may have come out of the water Niya heard a familiar but ominous sound. It sounded like the cry of a wolf. Having to deal with wolves was never easy. Even a lone wolf was hard to take down with out getting a scar to remember it by. She listened out but heard no other howls; at least it was not a pack. It was hard to say for sure but if it was a lone wolf she could kill it. Another scar was something she could take if it meant eating. Niya found a good thick tall tree to climb up into. But be for she went up she walked around it's trunk a few times she had learned to do this to keep a wolf sniffing out a sent wile she got ready to pounce down on it. After she was done Niya got up on a sturdy branch that was low enough so when she leaped off she could take the fall but high enough so the wolf would not get her sent over him right away. With nothing else to hunt around she was sure the wolf would follow her sent in the forest. Taking her short sword out and readying her self she waited.

------------------------------------------------

Rhages run had taken him through a good portion of the forest. The dense over brush of the trees was thinning out while the sky was becoming clearer. Running through the moonlight he sniffed the air again as he continued to pick up the sent from the women. The sent continued to get stronger which meant he was getting closer to her, he started to get another sent, this one of fresh running water. The water was throwing off the women’s sent though, fresh water seemed to purify the air around it making tracking by smell all the more difficult. But that didn’t stop him. Rhage was hungry and there was a human woman in the area.

As he ran through the dense forest Rhage could soon hear the sounds of the little rivers flow, as he came to a slow walk he was soon standing near the edge of the water were he smelled the air again. He caught up the faint sent of the women and it headed back to were he came from. Back tracking as he sniffed the air he was soon at the base of a tree walking around it while sniffing out the sent that was around it.

--------------------------------------------------

Niya had waited calmly and silently for the wolf to find her. Shifting her feet just a little to keep from getting a cramp as she stayed ready to pounce down. She was about to give way to a small yawn when she heard something moving close by. Her eyes were watching from were the sound was coming from and it was getting closer to her. With the night vision spell working nicely on her she was sure to be at a more even level with the wolfs own vision. Something started to show up in her sites and a form hit her. But it was not a wolf as she had thought.

No it stood on two legs and had arms and hands. But the face was like a wolf. In truth she had thought maybe it was a werewolf at first. But when it got right below her she could tell it was a man wearing a wolves head. She had not met many people that did such a thing and most were not friendly to her. This was not something she could kill to eat but it was tracking her sent she was sure of it. That meant that the man was intent on finding her. It was odd that he did in fact seem to be tracking her by sent or he would not be following her walk around the tree.

Niya had to do something. Humans did not track by sent like that, and this one did not look at all friendly. If she leaped down on him she could vary well be taking on a demon and being only human she would be well but out matched in a fight even with her short sword. She did have her throwing knifes and her agility spell but that was not something that could kill a demon. But it did give her an idea. Vary quietly in the lowest whisper she could muster Niya started her agility spell. If she could just get this spell out she could leap away on the tree branches. Niya had her throwing knifes ready up in her sleeve to toss at the man if he heard or to slow him down if at all possible so she could finish the spell if cot.

----------------------------------------------------

The half breed continued to stalk around the tree as he followed her sent. His wolf mask's eyes were glowing a faint red from the reflection of the moonlight off the jewels embedded in the masks eye sockets. This enhances his seeing ability’s ever so slightly as everything he saw was a shade of red. His smile under his mask continued to grow when a small gust of warm wind came through.

His head stopped moving as he smelt the sent again but it wasn’t on the ground anymore. No the sent was coming from higher in the tree he was under. His right hand slowly moved to his whip on his right hip were he pulled the leather strap making it come loose. As his hand gripped the whip tighter he quickly raised his arm and snapped his wrist making the whip fly up. As he snapped his wrist again the black leather whip wrapped around a branch close to the women.

"I’ve found you my pet."

Niyas eyes went wide when the whip snapped out and took hold of the tree branch. She new she was found so she did not care if she was herd any more. She had to finish the spell or she would not have a chance at getting away from this man. In a quick move made faster by the rushing of adrenaline threw her body and the fear of death driving her on Niya sent three throwing knifes down at the demon man below her. They were not so much aimed at any particular part of him but the path made was at the arm holding the whip.

The throwing knives took Rhage by complete surprise. One of the knives struck his whip arm making his grip on it looses a little while a second knife struck the side of his mask leaving a small gash in it just below its right eye.

.....grace with out flight, agile, fast and sure, grant me this I implore...

It was the last of the spell and she was hoping it would work even if her concentration was not the best when uttering it. There was only one way to find out. Swiftly she made her leap of faith to another tree branch and with some mild stumbling on the landing made the lead. The spell had worked thou not perfectly. Niya had more experience with this spell then the other but not being able to do the spell calmly took some power from it. She had to be careful not to over step her limits with it.

The knife was still stuck in his mask and the blade was only a short distance from sticking into his cheek just below his eye. He pulled the one blade from his mask with his left hand and put it in his belt before he yanked the other blade from his right arm. Putting the blade with the first Rhage looked up at the girl who had chanted a spell he had seen very few use in his 214 years of life. As he watched her jumping to a higher branch he smiled under his mask then he crouched down and sprung up using his vampire ability to land on the branch his whip was on. Grabbing the whip he took it off the branch and curled it up in his hands before he looked up at the girl again.

"Aww what’s the matter little one you don’t want to play anymore?"

His voice was stern but their wasn’t any sign of hostility. It was almost a jokingly friendly voice. The blood on his right arm slowly began to run out of the wound. Looking at his arm the red eyes from the mask only glared.

"this is not a game I fancy...demon or what ever the hell you are."

"Mmmm a feisty one."

Niya was not so new to fighting as to stick around and chat with this thing. She had had dealings with people with the same attitude be for. That sick twisted tone finding fun in the fear of others. People who tormented people just for kicks. People like that were not worth the effort of mercy in life as far as Niya was concerned. But this one may be worse, he did not seem to mind the wound her knife had given him too much. This gave her another fear, those who loved pain so much that even there own brought them some odd pleasure. People like that were very dangerous, many cases a wound or threat did not deter them but speared them on more. It was like giving then a treat for tormenting you, it was a sick way to live.

Niya was not sure if this was true for this man yet but he sure did not seem worried about the blood he was losing. Taking no more time to wonder Niya leaped to the next tree landing on a thick lower branch then again leaping on word trying to keep to the more sturdy low branches then the flimsier upper ones. If the spell had worked perfectly she might be able to get higher but as it was she could not chance it. Not looking back Niya tried to get away from her hunter.

"Aww why are you running don’t you want to play before lunch?"

His smile under his mask only grew as he watched the women trying to get away. He stayed on his branch as he watched the her jumping to the lower branches of the next tree. This amused him greatly, this human thought she could get away from a vampire but he still had a few tricks that would scare her before he went to finish her off. As he stayed kneeling on the branch he wound his whip up and re-strapped it to his right hip with a strip of leather. As he pulled his right hand back a blue orb of arcane magic’s formed. It was the size of his fist and was shinning brightly in the moonlight. His head turned towards the orb and his smile only grew. Rhages attention turned back to the women as he threw the arcane orb at her. The orb spun in the air as it picked up speed only to turn into a bolt of energy and it struck the branch in front of the woman blowing it apart sending bark and wood splinters around.

Niya had felt something behind her but she had thought it was only the man following her. When the stream of light passed it hurt her eyes do to the night vision spell still being so strong still. But that was not to be the only problem. With her vision temporarily blurred she just barely saw the limb she was about to leap on just as the stream of light hit it. A few little slivers of the wood had made tiny cuts in her upper arms as she shielded her face and chest with them in a long X. Be for she new it Niya had hit the ground and had fallen to all fours. The man started to laugh as he jumped out of the tree. He landed on the ground softly then started to run towards the tree the woman had fallen from. Watching the human falling out of the tree after the branch had exploded from his arcane spell Rhage cringed a little. He was still running as she got back to her feet when the faint smell of blood came across the air. He smiled again as he almost started to drool from the smell of blood.

Shaking her head and trying to blink the blot in front of her vision away Niya got up as quick as she could from the ground and started off running again. She had to stay on the ground tell her vision was back to normal but the agility spell did manage to make her a bit more fleet a foot. But she new simply running was not going to get a demon off her back. She only had one throwing knife left and of course her short sword. Her cloak would not do her much good against some one that would find her by sent. As she ran Niya tried to think of some way to elude the morbid creature that was after her. She hated that this was just some game to him. Her life was not a toy to be tossed about for another’s amusement. Anger washed over her drowning out a lot of her fears for the moment. That was what she needed, anger she could think with but not fear. Fear had a bad habit of blinding, blocking her mind from thinking properly.

Rhage continued to stalk his prey, another orb formed in his right hand. His masks eyes still continued to glow and so his vision was red making his night vision better. He saw her running faster then normal he figured her little spell was still active and a smirk came over his face. Rhage passed by the next tree and he threw another orb at her. Like the last this orb flew at her in a ball form until it was just behind her then it took the form of a bolt and struck the tree closest to her. Niya was slowly forming a plain to get way from this monster when her thoughts were scrambled for a few more moments by another bolt of something flying past her and hitting a tree sending more slivers of wood her way. Luckily tho this time she was not so close as to be cut again but the painful little shards. Her arms only covered in her thin sleeves had taken the last blasts recall badly. The bleeding was miner but the pain was a burning stinging feeling. She no doubt had some wood slivers still in her flesh but had not time to pull them out. As the ball left Rhages hand he stepped behind the nearest tree and his footsteps stopped. Aside from the bolt hitting the tree nearby the women the only sounds that came across the air was his haunting voice.

"Hahahahahaha run all you want my pet. Night time in this forest is my play time. Tire your self out if you wish but the fun is only beginning."

His voice seemingly came from all around her before the branched above her cracked as if something was in them. Time went on and his messed up game was only growing. Rhages voice continued to follow her through the forest. The sounds over her head did nothing to ease her nerves and looking up wile trying to run away was not the easies thing to do in a forest. She wished the man would stop talking. She new if she took the bait and started to answer him it would just goat him on and she had no intention of doing that. The plain again formed in her head but be for she could implement it her instincts made her stop dead in her tracks as two of Niyas own throwing daggers came out of a tree and landed a small distance in front of her.

"If my pet wants to play she will be needing some more toys."

His voices continued to haunt Niya as Rhage toyed with her.

"Run run far away, if you go who will play.....hahahahahahaha...have you ever been poisoned my pet? Such a horrible way to go. Your body breaks down as your limbs become numb. You can actually feel the life draining out of you. Ahh such a marvelous thing to watch...Hahahahahaha...."

Hearing the mans taunting words Niya quickly grabbed the blades and ran again. She could not afford to be poisoned. Though she had a spell to cure wounds she had only heard of a spell to cure poisons. It had not been taught to her like the other spells but she did remember it. But trying a spell she did knot really know could have dire affect on who ever it was used on.

"Hahahahaha...."

His laughter filled the air as more branched exploded near the women. He had to admit even tho this was fun to him the women was very resilient. Their hasn't been many like her in the past and this was making it all the better. The last time he had a hunt like this is when he was back in the dark forest miles and miles away from this forest.

He had just feasted on a small boy who was maybe 7 years old when he heard the sounds of leather boots running over old dried wood. He could smell the leather from the hilts of the villager’s swords and the smell of oil from their lit torches. As he left the child’s lifeless body on the ground Rhage put his beast mask on before howling at the moon and he began to taunt and mess with their head. He used the same tricks he used on Niya that night. Using a few well placed arcane blasts and magic arrows to blow apart trees and branches and misplacing his voice all around the villagers he soon snuck up to the last villager in their makeshift line and he slowly picked them off one by one until only one remained alone in the demon infested dark forest. He toyed with the last villager for a while haunting him with his echoing voice and even hitting him a few times with his whip leaving welts and cuts up and down the mans legs and arms.

Before he went to finish the villager he toyed with him one more time but leading the villager to a small clearing were he ran headlong into the other villagers who were nor dead all with looks of agony, pain, and fear all over them. He came back to reality and smiled. Niya was coming to a small stream. Her ears picked up on the water and decided to make a small stand soon. She had to slow him down, take away some of his confidence in hunting her. He saw the women heading towards the river that flowed through. When reaching the stream Niya thought she was a little ahead of her demon stalker but she was very quick none the less. She lay down in the stream letting the water wash over her. This was to try and hide her sent some. When she was soaked she kept low and moved to hide a little up stream. It was her hope that he would lose her sent long enough to turn his back to her or to leave himself open to her attack so she could get her throwing knifes into him. But this time in a more affective spot. Niya hide in a thick bush, do to her wet out fit and hair some of the leaves were already sticking to her. Rhage had moved behind a tree so he could get a better vantage point as he had lost sight of the women.

Heading to were he last saw her, his ruby mask eyes continued to glow and it was easy to see were she had been laying in the sand in the bottom of the river. Though the water was rapidly washing the imprint away. Her sent was now gone and the grin under Rhages mask faded away.

"Aww what’s the matter pet are you tired of playing with me already?"

He was still having fun with her even tho for not he lost her sent and her.

"You can run all you want little one. I will find you then we will really begin to play."

As he looked into the moonlight he began to howl again.

Her eyes narrowed on the form of this demonic man. She was still unsure of what kind of demon she was dealing with as of yet but she new any demon was trouble. Still she would have a better chance of getting away if she new what he was. In that little bit of knowledge she could find a weakness, exploit some flaw in his kind to better up her own chance of life. From what she had seen so fare his body looked basically human. The wolf head was not his but a mask, so that ruled out werewolf. Thou the man did seem to enjoy howling. Niya watched him closely waiting for the right moment to toss her blades at him. With his head back as he filled the forest with the echoing sounds of the howl Niya new a good shot to take. No matter what the demon a good throat shot always hurt.

Niya took aim, she would go for the demons throat with the first blade, and then send the last two in his gut. If she was lucky they would make there mark or at leas one set would. Only with the agility spell could she pull off a speed toss like she was about to. She wanted to stop his howling, she did not love wolves but she did have a respect for them and even howled into the night herself on vary rare occasions when she was in the middle of know were and it was just a little to quite even for her. The cries of a wolf pack would seem calming as long as she was in a safe place away from the main pack. To listen to a monster like this using the same call was insulting.

With that last thought Niya tossed the first blade. Not waiting to see if it hit the mark she quickly sent her last two throwing knifes at the mans gut. The spell had made the movement fast and almost ninja like in its stealth. Knowing that even if the blades hit all her marks that the demon would more then likely be able to lung at her do to her closeness to him, Niya took leave of the bush. Rhages howling stopped only when his vampire hearing caught the sounds of something moving fast through the air. As he turned slightly he saw what was coming but they were to close for him to do anything about it.

"Oh hell not again."
