Introduction
“Shut up Mary-Ann!” Natasha could hear her parents from downstairs, even over her music which was playing loudly. She wiped her face, everytime her parents break into a fight Natasha starts crying, not in fear, but misery. Why do they always have to fight? ever since they first started fighting Natasha wished she had parents that wouldn’t. Not that she didn’t love her parents, she loved them very much, which was hard for her whenever they fought to see the two most important people in her life fighting and there was nothing she could do to make them stop. She felt helpless.
Her door opened and her dad came in, Natasha wiped away the rest of her tears on her blanket and looked up at her dad. Natasha’s dad was red in the face, probably because of yelling she thought. Robert Clawson was a tall man, he had short bronze-brown hair, and hazel brown eyes. He had tannish skin and was wearing old worn out jeans and a white T-shirt.
As he looked down at Natasha his face softened.
“Natasha” he said quietly and Natasha felt tears come again, “shhhh” he walked over to her and put his arms around her. Natasha cried on his shoulder and heard her door open again.
“What did you do Robert?” Mary-Ann Clawson asked sharply. Natasha looked up at her mother whose face was also red from yelling.
“He didn’t do anything mom.” Natasha sniffed
Natasha’s mom was an alcoholic, she drank and when she was drunk Natasha’s dad always left the house only to come back later to find it trashed. One time when Natasha came home her mother was drunk, and she threw a glass vase at Natasha thinking she was a robber. It hit Natasha in the back, but didn’t do too much damage, though it did cut her. Natasha still had the mark. Mrs. Clawson had pale white skin and black hair, lime green eyes, and always wore tight clothes.
Natasha looked up at her mom and then to her dad, noticing how they glared at each other.
“Natasha, there’s something we need to tell you.” said Mary-Ann as she looked down at Natasha again.
“What?” Natasha wiped her face and looked up at her mom.
“Um were thinking of getting a divorce” answered dad who was still looking up at her mom.
“Okay, and?” Natasha looked down at her dad.
“…and we think that you should choose who to live with” said Robert finally looking at Natasha.
“Me? Choose?” oh no! Natasha didn’t like having to choose if it caused hurting someone’s feelings.
“Or we could choose” he said quickly
“You choose” Natasha said firmly
“Okay” Natasha’s mom said softly, “I think you should move out with your father”
Natasha snapped her head up to her mom, “Move?!?!?”
“Yes move” Mary-Ann said, “Your both moving out as quickly as possible, all you’ve done is ruined my life.” she turned on her heel and left, her words hanging in the air. Natasha felt tears come again but didn’t stop them. All you’ve done is ruined my life... the words repeated over and over in her mind like a broken record player.
“Come on Natasha pack your things” Natasha’s dad stood up and left the room.
Natasha bit her lip and stood up walking to her closet and grabbed a duffel bag and a suitcase. Her dad put them in their since there was no more room in the house. Natasha slowly started to pack all her clothes in the suitcase, holding back tears in the process. When she finally finished packing her cd’s she grabbed her laptop and walked down the stairs with the suitcase and duffel bag in hand. Natasha’s dad was out in the car and Natasha’s mom was no where to be seen, as Natasha left the house and put her things in the back of the van. Natasha looked back at the house one more time then walked up to the passengers seat and got in.
“It’s going to be alright Natasha.” said her dad when she buckled in her seatbelt and he started the car. “Don’t worry”
Natasha looked back at the house one last time and waved.
August 18, 2001
Natasha looked around at their setting it was dark outside and raining hard, where the hell are we? Natasha thought we cant possibly be living out here, can we? Until recently Natasha and her dad were living with one of her dad’s old friends, but now her dad found somewhere where they could move in. The worst thing is it was in a whole different country. The argument they had before they left was still running in her head.
[FLASH BACK]
Natasha was sitting in front of the T.V. when her dad came in, he looked at her then turned the T.V. off.
“Hey, I was watching that.” she complained
“Well I need to tell you something hon, so I kind of need it off for the time being.”
“Okay” Natasha looked up at him and smiled, “What did you want to tell me daddy?”
“Well hon, were gonna have to move again and this time farther then last”
“Huh?”
“Well you know we couldn’t stay here the whole time, and anyway I found us a nice house and a new school for you to go.”
“Where?”
“Well its in a different country”
“Where?” Natasha repeated
“London” he said finally
“What? Why so far away?”
“It’s the only place I could find a job that pays more, and I paid for the house already too.”
Natasha looked at her dad, she couldn’t argue, they didn’t have that much money anymore. Since her parents broke up everything was hard. Though her dad does have a job he doesn’t get paid much and he just got fired so now any job would be good. Natasha smiled.
“Okay dad”
He smiled at her and gave her a hug.
[END FLASHBACK]
Natasha looked out the window at the scenery. London looked okay, it wasn’t exactly like New York, but okay. When they got to the new house Natasha looked at it with her mouth open. It wasn’t little it was huge, mansion almost, nothing like her house back in NY. It was one of those old looking castles, it didn’t look cheap at all.
It was 2 stories tall at least. Dark gray bricked wall and a few windows in the front. Natasha got out of the car and grabbed her duffel, while her dad grabbed the suitcases. He grinned at her and she realized her mouth was still opened so she closed it and went to the door.
Inside was just as amazing as the outside the living room was big. It had a table in it for meals, and a fireplace that was usable. The carpet was dark red, the fireplace was surrounded in grey bricks like the outside, some couches were put in one corner along with the biggest T.V. Natasha has ever seen, and there were some lamps here and there.
“Here Natasha, I’ll show you your room”
Natasha’s dad set the suitcases on the floor next to the couch and grabbed Natasha’s then headed toward the stairs. Natasha grabbed her duffel and followed her dad up the stairs. They walked down a long hallway and Natasha’s room was the fourth door to the right.
“Hope you enjoy your room” and then he left
Natasha looked around her room and smiled. It had white walls and the carpet was dark red like in the living room. On one corner there was a bed, it was queen sized, and had red bed sheets and blanket. Next to the bed was a bedside table and a small lamp. On the other corner there was a closet (it was empty of course, Natasha hadn’t unpacked yet), and then there was a window. Natasha walked to the window and looked out it had a good view of the front lawn and the passing cars.
Natasha looked at her watch it was 5:38 in the morning and still a bit dark out, Natasha dropped her duffel beside her bed and layed down. School starts in a few weeks, what am I going to do then? Natasha thought miserably, she didn’t know anyone here and with that thought she fell into a troubled sleep.

August 30, 2001
“I wish you would have told me I was going to a boarding school” Natasha whined for the umpteenth time.
“Im sorry hon but I really don’t want you locked up in your room all day and I think meeting new people would be good for you.” Mr. Clawson was helping Natasha pack.
Natasha was going to Grother Brooke Academy, it was a boarding school for boys and girls between the ages of 13 through 18, and in the brochure it was also good for ‘developing sporting skills and social contacts’. Natasha knew another reason it was because her dad’s new job kept him for most of the day and he barely had anytime to take care of Natasha. Natasha didn’t mind as long as it helped her dad she would go for it.
“Got everything packed for tomorrow?” Mr. Clawson was dropping Natasha off at the school, it started on September 1 ,like all schools. Natasha looked at everything and started checking things off in her mind, clothes (check), PJ’s (check), camera (check), cell phone (check).
“Yeah everything’s packed” Natasha smiled and sat on the edge of her bed and tied back her hair in a ponytail.
Natasha had her mothers hair, jet black and very long so it always got in her face. Natasha’s skin was light pink and a bit tanned, the only thing that confused Natasha’s parents were her eyes, Natasha got ice blue eyes, but neither of her parents do. Another thing about Natasha was that she was extremely skinny for a 15 yr old, she only weighed like about 103 lbs and even though she weighed that much doctors still said she was perfectly healthy.
Natasha stretched on her bed as her dad watched her she smiled up at him.
“I’m gonna miss you hon.” he smiled back down at her.
“Im gonna miss you too daddy, but don’t worry I’ll see you during the holidays.” Natasha paused, “I love you”
“I love you too” he grinned then started to tickle her. Natasha screamed and started giggling.
“Stop” tears were running down her face as she laughed, her dad finally stopped and planted a kiss on her cheek.
“Gonna miss me?”
“Yes, of course I will.” Natasha looked at her watch, “Well Im gonna go to bed okay dad?”
“Okay honey bunny”
“Dad” Natasha whined but was still smiling.
“Love you Natasha.” he got up and turned off the light, then left the room.
Natasha got into bed, her mind was buzzing with questions for tomorrow. I hope I get at least one friend tomorrow she thought and fell asleep.
Natasha woke early in the morning when the it just started to get light outside and no matter what she did she couldn’t get back to sleep. So she took a shower, hoping that it would help with her nerves. When Natasha was drying her hair she heard a noise outside her window, curious she walked over and looked out. On the sidewalk was a dark figure, a boy. Natasha couldn’t see him clearly since it was still dark out, but she knew for sure that he was smirking at her. Natasha looked at her watch, 4:27, her dad wouldn’t wake up till 6. Natasha looked back out the window, he was gone. Natasha shrugged and when back to drying her hair, but now her head was buzzing with new questions. Who was that boy? And Why was he walking around at 4:30 in the morning?
Natasha layed back on her bed and was soon asleep again.
