Lonely Girl
Lonely Girl
Sarah was bored. There was nothing in the world that could cure her boredom either. Sighing softly she rolled onto her side and punched her pillow. Thwump! Thwump! Momentarily her boredom was relieved as she watched the pillow reshape itself into it's normal fluffy self..
Oh well...that was over too quickly.... not much you can do when you are alone.
Other people might get out of the bed, get dressed and venture out into the sunlight that intruded into the room, but not Sarah. She was content to wait. Eventually Daniel would come through the door and she would race to his embrace, but until that happened.... she was bored.
Stretch.... yawn.....hmm that felt good....... STRETCH again!!
OK... pad to the livingroom...... nothing going on in here.. she sat on the couch, Daniel had left the TV on when he left that morning, nothing but noise she thought...there's nothing on the TV. She got up and strolled into the kitchen for a drink, while she was there she decided she might as well eat lunch.
The days Daniel goes to work are sooo disgustingly long she thought stiffling another yawn.
After she finished eating, Sarah went to over to the aquarium and watched the fish swim in lazy circles while the bubbles from the aerorator raced crazy paths before breaking into a soft foam on the surface of the water. Just to distrupt the organized chaos, Sarah slid her hand into the water, jerking it out surprised at how cool it was.
Well... that was interesting, for a few minutes.
Sarah dried her hand off and walked to the window to gaze at the people coming and going, they always seemed to be in a hurry, Sometimes she would wave to them, or say hi from the window, she didnt know if they saw her or not, and she wouldnt dream of going out there to find out. While looking out the window her hand hit a die cast metal car that Daniel collected and placed there on display. She watched in horror as it rolled off the shelf and hit the floor.
A wheel went rolling under the couch and the door broke off it's hinges, Sarah got down on the floor trying to fish the wheel out from under it. Daniel would be upset when he got home, and saw it broken. But there was little she could do about it..
She returned to watching out the window and her thoughts of the lives the people out there led, and how sometimes Daniel would bring a friend or two over to the house. Sarah didnt like new people, all she wanted was Daniel, and when his friends did come over occassionally, she tried to stay out of the way for the most part. If they came over during dinner she would munch her food quietly and watch them all carry on, joking and laughing. Rarely she would venture in to sit next to Daniel or on his lap. She loved the feel of his hand stroking her back, or in her hair, at night she loved to snuggle up next to him, usually with a hand on the back of his head or an arm draped over his shoulder. She sighed reminensing.
Today only a few people walked by, so Sarah grew bored again, she was jsut about to turn away from the window when a bird landed on the sill and began to sing. Sarah was momentarily distracted she wondered how an animal with no lips could still whistle a tune. She pressed her nose against the glass trying to get a better look, as the bird hopped along the sill. She listened intently.... those weren't simple tunes either... but very complicated ones....
Sarah pursed her lips and tried to mimic the singing bird.
It's no good.... it's not even close, she thought, all I can do is just listen. The bird finished his song and flapped off, Sarah watched him go, she was alone again.
Sarah strolled over to the couch then stretched out full length. With her arms over her head and her toes pointing at the ceiling she thought about taking a nap to kill time. The next thing she knew..the sun was dipping behind the large tree in the yard, and Sarah knew Daniel would be home soon. She waited by the window her heart beating faster, her beloved was coming home. Finally she spotted his car, he got out and walked around to the side of the car and got out a small box. When he got closer Sarah stood up and smiled at him, he looked up at her. She KNEW he saw her, HE always did... and he ALWAYS smiled at her. By the time he unlocked the door, she was there waiting for him.
"Hi baby..." he crooned, "did you miss me?"
AS IF he needed to ask!
"Well, I've brought you something special today. I hope this helps you to deal with the long hours I have to work.." Daniel walked with the box over to the couch and sat down, Sarah followed him with questions in her eyes but sat down where he told her with a pat of his hand. "I hope you like it..... cause I cannot get my money back."
Sarah waited for him to open the box, and then looked inside.
There was a perfectly white kitten except for her front paws, which were grey. The poor little thing looked up at Sarah and mewed softly, and she was completely enchanted. Daniel laughed uncertainly.
"I named her mittens."
Sarah rubbed her head against his cheek and jumped into the box to welcome the newest member of the family. Daniel smiled and scratched her between the ears and opened two cans of cat food before sitting down to enjoy his takeout dinner.
