In Darkness Cloaked

Swirling colors of kaleidoscope beauty swirled in her head. A tapestry of colors woven together was slowly forming. She had to wake up.

She had to open her eyes before it was too late.

Her eyes shot open and bolted upright panting heavily, cold beads of sweat on her skin from the cool night air.

She stood up and stared out the window at the city below. A thousand lights checkered the tall buildings and even at the late hour. She could still see cars whizzing by below.

She shut the window and drew the curtains, hugging her shoulders and wiping away the perspiration.

The dream…it had come again, it had barged its way inside her and invaded her slumber.

But what does it mean? She wondered.

She had been having it for the past two weeks.

Ever since that night, ever since…she let the thought trail off.

It was ridiculous to think that that night had some how affected her. But maybe…she thought.
No! She decided she would not entertain such a foolish idea.

She had been stabbed plenty of times—it came with the job.

As if on cue she heard a scream pierce the night. Job. She thought ironically. Other people get paid for what they do.

A small smile came to her lips as she quickly dressed throwing on her leather duster and grabbing her favorite gun, opening it to make sure the special bullets were inside.

Duty calls she thought and opened the window and sat on the pane staring down for a moment before leaping from the twelfth story.

She felt the familiar rush of the wind in her hair as she fell down and down and down then landed expertly on the pavement with a crunch of her boots.

A regular person would not have survived such a jump, but she wasn’t like regular people.

In fact she often found her self wondering just what the hell she was. She would ponder the question over and over. Alien? Mutant? Sometimes the thought kept her up at night. Sometimes it left her restless.

She heard the loud feminine scream slice through the night again and ran quickly down the alley, following the cries. Until she saw a young, woman come into view. A tall figure in black had a hold of the woman’s shirt and ripped part of the fabric away. Pig she thought as he turned glowing red eyes to her.

She had plenty of holy-water filled bullets. Three should do it. A satisfied smile came to her lips. This one deserved it. She could smell the blood and death all over him and could practically smell the stench of his former victims. And he had not only bitten them. She could tell by the glazed look in his red eyes and how one of his hands still tightly gripped the half-exposed flesh of the woman’s breast.

“What’s the matter? The lady vamps don’t find you appealing? You have to attack human women?”

He growled and bared his fangs taking a step closer, pulling the frightened woman along.

“Maybe I just like my flesh warm and pink and easily shredded” he replied his voice ragged, his hand finding the trembling woman’s nipple through her shirt and pinching it cruelly.

“Well I don’t think she’s interested.”

He grinned, his sharp fangs gleaming in the moonlight.

“Your women always fight and act like they’re not interested but when you finally shove it inside their all hot and wet. Just beggin’ for more. They love a nice thick, vampire cock.”

A look of revulsion came to her face and she took a step forward.

“Let her go” she said, tone deadly.

“Why should I? She’s got some nice tits a fairly nice ass. The face’s not so bad. I think she make a nice little fuck” he said pulling the woman in closer, wrapping one arm roughly around her waist.

“I warned you” she replied and suddenly did a front flip, quickly landing behind him and kicking him hard in the back of the knee.

He fell to the ground loosening his grip on the woman and she grabbed the woman and shoved her forward.

“Go! Now!” she shouted and the terrified woman retreated.

She turned to see him back on his feet. He tried a surprise blow to the face but she ducked it and did a triple back-flip landing with her gun drawn.

She emptied three rounds into him and watched as his flesh began to sizzle and he let out a horrible howl of pain.

Her violet eyes coldly watched as he screamed and burned until he was a mere pile of ashes, slowly blowing away in the cool breeze of the night.

“Won’t be hurting anymore women” she said aloud to herself and turned to leave.

She stopped mid-step and spun around her eyes peering through the veil of darkness.

Someone else is here. Something. She knew she was not alone. She could feel it in the very marrow of her bones. She could sense it in the air.

Someone was there and had been there before…watching her.

She heard a shuffle of movement and spun around to see him standing there cloaked in black, the almost neon glow of his green eyes piercing through her, set in the white mask of his face.

How she loathed him.

A small smile came to his bloodless lips.
