Heartless

HEARTLESS~~~~

How did she know she was heartless? it was the singular moment, the moment where she teetered over the chasm of darkness, death. As her vision darkened at the edges her mind was whisked away into memories she had thought she had forgotten, but had never truly left her heart... buried the way they had been they festered through the years and she felt no sorrow... only hatred as memories of a man she had once loved bloomed in her psyche. His smiles, his laughter... his silence in the end.

She hated him, hated him with every fiber of her soul and body for leaving her alone. She had become a husk in the years that followed his death, her face paling and mouth settling into a thin line of discontent, friends drifted away often pushed along by barbed words and dark eyes. He'd ruined her life and she despised him, everything he had done for and too her in the end had been nothing when he lay cold and unmoving on the ground before her eyes blankly staring at the sky. Even in his death he hadn't enough courage to look her in the eyes and she hated him.

It came upon her suddenly, like a bolt of lightning or a sudden chill, she was not who she was when that man she had loved, now hated, lived... She was someone different, this version of herself did not experience happiness loss or regret, nothing but the same gray emptiness. The old version of herself had experienced all those things, but they had shattered as easily as a pane of glass when dropped and she had never bothered to gather the pieces back and now they were far to small for her to cling to.

She was heartless, how long had she been that way? Did it matter anymore, especially not now when everything was about to end. She swore to herself that she would at least look into the eyes of her killer, let her silent asquiecense to the end haunt him until his own end. Abruptly the memories fled her and she was back in the room, her blood staining the rich carpet, splattering on the walls from where she had fought back viciously against her attacker.

Now she lay limply, one arm folded awkwardly under her back forcing her neck to arc back and her head rest more on its crown. She managed to turn her head and focus on her killer, he was vague, indistinct as more and more of her life withered away, her eyes widened. Had she ever been alive after he had left her? no she supposed not, he'd taken that with him too, so this was ineffectual to her being. She wondered how this man blurred in her vision would feel if he realized he was merely accelerating a dead womans desires?

please review, I know it is not all that intruiging and is rather bland but I could definitely use some constructive criticism.
