Chapter 1
People Change
Have you ever seen those kids in your classroom, always in the corner, away from the rest of the popular group? They’re always wearing bland clothes and reading their thick novels? The ones that were always ignored by others, made fun by the jocks and pushed around?
She was one of them.
How many years did she go through, taking all of that pain, and coming out alright and just fine the way she is now? It’s countless, it’s horrible, and it’s just… blah. Sure, she had friends. She had her own little group of nerdy, bookworm friends, but were they real friends? Had she ever had a friend that she could call “best”? She never had someone like that before, someone who would be next to her side with whatever she went through.
Nah, they were just those type of people where they helped each other in school and whatever.
Wow.
She was one of those ‘regular’ school girls. She had those straight A’s, and she would spend many of her hours devoted to just studying, heck, she didn’t even know what a social life meant. She was an average person. She lived in a two-story house; her and her family lived in a second class neighborhood. She wore the same clothes at least three times in two weeks – yes, she washed them. She would never waste money on clothes she didn’t need, nor did she use them on make-ups.
Now, let the story begin, shall we?
She didn’t have that perfect body, she was pretty much average. At least, the clothes that she wore said that. Her mom always told her that she had that curvaceous body, and told her to wear the tighter clothes. As she would say, “Hey. It doesn’t hurt to show off some of that curves that you have, show a little skin!” She never listened to her though. Even if she did have curves, she didn’t want the attention on her. She enjoys her own little corner.
She was in all honors classes, some people call it Pace, others called it Horizon, but whatever, it’s harder than the regular classes that people typically take. Hell, it’s even hard for her. She didn’t have the genes that some people that she knew had, where someone look through one thing and remember it in a jiffy, nope. Never would she have that gene. She’d have to study over and over again to get it into her head. Heck, she’d have to drill it into her head.
It’s not much fun. Her mother always tried to push her to get out a little bit more, go to parties, but she’d been afraid to go to such things. She was afraid that she would change in one night, though she knew it wouldn’t happen, but what if she got addicted? There would always be that little voice in her head telling her things.
That’s her life right there. For nine years, she used up her life, merely studying and nothing else. Is she allowed to call it a waste though it did help her?
“Can someone tell me what the capital of Nepal is?” Her teacher would ask a question similar to that one every single day.
Aye. Really, who wouldn’t know? To her surprise, most of the people didn’t know in her class.
“Kathmandu.” She would speak up from her little corner, pushing up her thick glasses. Nodding, the teacher gave her a smile and turned away, beginning on their lecture. Normally, all they’d have to do is take notes and she expects them to memorize it by the test day.
That was World Geography.
What else is there? Nothing much, that’s how it goes really.
Back at home, she’s locked up in the study room, from 2:30 to 11:00 at night, the next day, she’d wake up at five in the morning to study for another hour before she began to get ready for school, but then again, it only takes her ten minutes to find out what she needed to wear and another ten to brush her teeth and whatnot.
She was never really been noticed by anyone before. She was just that typical wallflower, nonexistent to the world around. She didn’t really care for it either. She liked it, having everything to herself, no high school drama, no hate, no sorrow, or no whatever else that goes on then.
There was that one day though, she remembered it so perfectly well. There was a new student all the way from Southern California. I guess, you could say, he was that type that would catch the eye of every girl in the classroom. Normally, she wouldn’t care, but there’s always a first time for everything, right?
He looked like that kind of surfer boy, of course, California had many of them. He had that blonde hair and blue eyes. Wow. What else is there say to the guy? He was just about perfect in every shape and form there was. He was so mesmerizing, it wasn’t even funny. Seriously.
“Everyone, this is Danny.” Her teacher would announce to the class, writing out his name on the chalkboard in big, bold letters. “He’s from Oceanside, Southern California. Uh.. Would you like to introduce yourself?”
The new kid would look around the room at the rest of the kids, blinking a couple of times, and smiled, showing off his perfect white teeth. “There ain’t nothing much to say.” He would say after a bit, and took his seat.
In one of the classes that they had together – they had four classes with each other – they sat next to each other.
How dare he steal my corner.
She thought when he sat down. Now everyone would notice her. Not that she was a very noticeable person to begin with, but now with his all perfect self here, all the girls would come swarming around his desk, not giving her the chance to study.
That’s what happened. They had about ten minutes of free time in that class everyday when the bell was just about to ring, and all of the girls jumped out of their seat, ignoring their usual flirts, and ran over towards him, asking him bundles of questions.
How annoying.
Danny would just smile and calmly answer their questions; she’d just sit there, rolling her eyes, and tried to study, regardless of the girl’s butt in her face.
Annoying or annoying?
She was so happy when the bell rang for lunch, she quickly gathered up her books and her backpack, and headed for the door. She was the first one out of the classroom.
It’s typical, wasn’t it? She sat in the corner at lunch, while the new kid that was already popular sat with the popular and rich kids. She felt that twinge of jealousy in the very back of her mind, not liking him because the boy was liked because he was physically attractive. She wanted to be like him, too.
Like that would happen.
So, a week went by, and Danny was just as popular as he was when he first came to school, if not anymore popular than he already was. And she, well, she remained the same wallflower, the same bookworm.
Is it okay to hate someone you don’t even know?
“Uh… Hey,” She heard the Southern Californian’s voice directed towards her, “I’m sorry, I never got your name.” He smiled at her, tilting his head towards the side.
“Oh, that’s okay. It’s Rochelle.” Yeah, She have an odd name.
“That’s beautiful.” He grinned, turning his seat towards the side a little, “First name I’ve heard like that before. Very pretty.”
Wow, beautiful and pretty used in one day? It’s a miracle if Rochelle hear those two words in a month. Weird. “Why.. Well, Thanks.” She didn’t know how to react to his comment; suppose a thank you would be alright. Rochelle nodded a little, smiling faintly at him before she slowly began to turn her attention back towards her book once more.
“Hey, Rochelle.” Her head shot back towards him, “You think I could sit with you at lunch? I could use some silence - away from the preppies.” He lowered his voice when he mentioned the girls that were all over him.
Rochelle didn’t enjoy people sitting with her, but it would have been rude of her to turn him down. Yeah, that would have been it. She had to say it was okay.
So, when lunch came, the two of them merely sat there, with the ‘preppies’ as he called it, glared at her. It was awfully silent between the two of them, but the again, Rochelle didn’t know him that well at all, heck; she didn’t even know his last name. The girl tried striking up a conversation once, but it didn’t go too well. He merely shrugged and said nothing else but continued to eat his lunch. Whatever that was.
The next day, Danny completely ignored Rochelle. She didn’t exist to him. The girl sat alone during lunch once again, but oddly enough, a week later, he came back, sitting with her, with the same silence, and the next day, it was like it never happened.
As the weeks went on, Danny came to her side of the table more frequently, to where it was five days of sitting with her. By that time, Rochelle was already used to the silence and him being there.
“Can you help me?” He spoke up out of the blue one day during lunch.
“With what?”
“Homework, duh.”
“What homework, duh?”
“World Geography.”
Rochelle blinked a couple times, then shrugged, “Yeah. Sure.”
So, for the rest of the lunch period, she was leaning over the table, helping him with his homework. And it was, from that day on, they began conversing more and more.
The two of them would walk next to each other from class to class to class. Jokes were actually passes along every now and then. He wasn’t as bad as she thought he would have been. Danny was still popular though. He still had all the girls swarming around him and he’s apologize when they left. Rochelle always told him, “As a guy as good-looking as you, you should take that advantage.”
Rochelle found out a few months after he arrived here, that he wasn’t her age. He was more than year older than the rest of the freshmen, like that was a big surprise; a lot of kids in her grade were always a year older. Danny told her though, it was because he wasn’t born in America so he was put a year behind. Rochelle bought it.
“Hey, Rochelle. My birthday’s coming up soon. I’m almost sixteen.” He grinned, handing out an invitation. “I’m having a birthday bash;, I know that you’re a bookworm, but I hope that you can make it. You know, for a friend?” He pouted a little as he watched her open the envelope. He decorated it so beautifully, she swore, it wasn’t paper that she was touching. “You know, sweet sixteen, it’s important.”
Rochelle looked through the invitation with that she’s-not-so-sure look on her face. He begged her even more. “Ahh, I’m not sure. On such a short notice too.” Rochelle frowned slightly, “I’ll think about it.”
His face brightened up when he heard her reply to his offer, “You know, you don’t have to bring anything though. I mean, it’s not that important. I just want you to go.” He walked her to her class, they didn’t have the same class that period, “There’s going to be a lot of people there, don’t worry, my parents and some of my friend’s parents are going to be there. No alcohol and whatever those kind of things.”
She walked into the classroom, and turned around to look at him, smiling faintly. “I already told you that I’d think about it, didn’t I? Now, go away, before I change my mind.” With that, she went over towards her seat, looking through the invitation once more. Rochelle’s heart fluttered slightly. It was going to be a formal birthday party. The girl figured that Danny and his family had a lot of money.
She was slightly worried. Rochelle wanted to go, but then again, she didn’t have any formal dresses. She had to tell Danny some bad news.
“So, have you decided yet?”
“I don’t think I can go.”
“Why not?” His voice went up a few octaves.
“It’s formal. There are dances. I don’t have formal clothes. This is as formal as I get.” She pointed down at her clothes that she was wearing right now, baggy boy pants and a t-shirt two sizes too big.
“I’ll get you something then.”
“No! It’s too expensive!”
“It’s okay. I have money.” And with that, he left. Danny didn’t give her a say in the argument. The girl just merely gave an embarrassed laugh. She didn’t see why the guy wanted her to go so badly.
When school ended, she found him standing outside of the classroom. He smiled, told her to get her stuff ready and he dragged her to his car. He could drive. Whoop-de-doo. Really, right?
Rochelle didn’t have a cell phone to tell her mother, but it’s not like she cared much about it. The girl always walked home and normally it’d take her forever to get home. She lived around an hour away from her school. She normally studied when she walked home.
She couldn't remember the name of the store that Danny took her to, but she remembered it had all the fancy dress that there was. He smiled, and told her he was going to stay in the car while his sister – who was a year older than he was and drove her own way over to the store – took her shopping. He wanted to be surprised on his birthday.
Rochelle didn’t know his sister all too well. Heck, she didn’t even know he had a sister. So, Rochelle left with his sister, who by the way, was named Denise, and they went shopping. It didn’t take her long, she loved everything that was there – but a bit skeptical since bit events such as Danny’s birthday wasn’t really her ‘thing - and she wanted it all, but of course, that was just her being greedy and whatever. It took about an hour for Denise and Rochelle to pick out what she was going to wear.
Actually, Denise picked it out for her. She didn’t have any sense on what looked better on her and what didn’t. She liked it either way though. It was fine by her.
Now, all Rochelle needed to worry is what she needed to get him for his birthday.
“I feel horrible using your money.” She smiled faintly, next day at school.
“Why’s it so horrible?”
“It is. It’s your birthday party, and I’m using your money.”
“Don’t worry about it.” He only smiled at her, patting her on the head before he made his way towards his class. “You’ll pay me back one day.”
Rochelle told her mom about her going to Danny’s birthday party. Oh, goodness gracious, it’s unbelievable how happy she was. “Oh, Rochelle! You don’t know how happy I am that you’re going to a party! Is there going to be a lot of people there? Boys?” She emphasized the word ‘boys’. Rochelle merely rolled her eyes and told her mother that it was going to be a formal dance party. Her mother ‘ooh’d and ‘ahh’d.
So, the rest of the week went by slowly. Friday night, Rochelle wasn’t able to sleep at all. She was excited about the party. The girl still didn’t get him a birthday present though. She felt horrible. She’ll give him a belated present. Rochelle was sure that would have been alright.
His party started at four in the afternoon. The girl woke up, got her mom to do her hair. She had long hair, it was naturally straight, and for once, she wanted to do something different with her hair. Rochelle spent two hours sitting on the chair, as her mom washed it and dyed it to a prettier color, then highlighted it, and finally with the last step, gave her hair a pretty professional curls. They were like the girls in the movies that you’d see who were going to the balls and meeting up with their prince charming and whatever. Only, her face didn’t seem to fit the beauty of her hair.
Rochelle had those thick glasses that completely messed up her facial features. Her mother suggested using those contacts that Rochelle never tried on before. She didn’t like things poking at her eye; she was scared of putting it on. She thought that she should have at least tried it on once. There’s always a first for everything, right? Yeah, right. Her mom bought it for her a while back; it wasn’t too long ago though. Very expensive.
So, Rochelle took off her glasses, and stared at the reflection in the mirror. She had to squint. And with a sigh of defeat, Rochelle poked her eye with the contact lenses sitting on the tip of her finger. She blinked a few times, as her vision slowly began to clear up.
Wow. It’s a completely different feeling.
Guess it wasn’t as bad as she thought it was.
The last step was for her to slip into the dress that she bought with Danny’s money. It was tight around her body. The feel of the dress was quite a stranger to her. After that was through, Rochelle had about thirty minutes left before she had to get going. She stared at herself in the mirror once more before heading out.
If Rochelle had a picture to compare herself now with the usual Rochelle, it was like, she was a completely different person. She had pale skin and she wore a black dress. It was strapless, wrapping about her breast tightly. Rochelle could see the curves that her mom was talking about. The girl had a skinny waist and a wide hip. She didn’t know if that was a good thing at that time, but she shrugged it off. Appearance didn’t really get to her anyways.
Her mom told her to put on some makeup after that. She used eyeliners, mascara, blush, foundation and all that other things that Rochelle didn’t know of. She matched now. Rochelle was already embarrassed and she hasn’t even stepped out of the house yet.
Her mother drove her to his house. It was about thirty minute away, and she was officially late, if you counted getting lost in the neighborhood.
“And you said you were good with directions.” Rochelle muttered, sounding slightly annoyed. Her mother delayed the first party she attended in years. But when they finally arrived, Rochelle couldn’t help but stare at the house in awe.
His house was exactly like she had suspected. It wasn’t even considered a house on top of that. It was like twenty million dollars! Her mom congratulated her on finding a rich friend like he was. Rochelle just shook her head and told her mom to pick her up at twelve. It ended at twelve anyway. She nodded her head and made her way back home.
There was a bouncer standing out there as Rochelle walked in, he stopped her. “Name?” He looked toward, never looking down at her.
“Rochelle.” She didn’t say her last name. The girl didn’t really think that there would be anyone out there with another name like hers.
“You may go through.”
She smiled at the man before she made her way into the mansion, looking around mesmerized. It was beautiful. There was a crystal chandelier and the main room looked like it was a ballroom. It felt like she was a princess since everyone was staring at her, wondering who was this girl. That was when she noticed it. Everyone in the room was looking at her. Rochelle figured that there was something wrong with her. Did I put my dress on backwards, did my makeup smear? She began to worry about all the things the typical girl would worry about at school. She didn’t enjoy the new worry she was feeling.
But as she continued to make her way into the center of the house, everyone began whispering, wondering who she was. Do I look all that different? Rochelle didn’t think so, but then again, it was her own self that she was looking at. She didn’t know what she looked like from another person’s view.
“Rochelle?” A familiar voice appeared behind her and she turned around quickly to see Danny’s face. He looked just a good as he would normally look like if not better. Handsome. Yeah, that’s it. “Wow.” He smiled widely, shaking his head. “You look… You… stunning. Beautiful.”
Rochelle blushed, looking down on the ground. “T-thanks…” She whispered.
A couple of the guys gathered around Danny and Rochelle, asking him who she was. Danny just merely smiled and told them that they knew the girl, just never really bothered to know her. They looked at him slightly confused, not sure who she was. Rochelle smiled though, shrugging and raised an eyebrow. It didn’t matter.
“Rochelle.” He would finally say. And the guys would stare at her in disbelief, their jaws dropping. She didn’t think they believed him, but after they gave her a second glance, they saw that girl that was always behind those thick glasses.
“Damn!” They smiled, circling around her, checking her out. Rochelle felt really uncomfortable. “If I knew you looked this hot, I would have—”
“Hey, Jorge.” Danny butted into the conversation, “Be polite.”
Jorge smacked her behind before he walked off snickering, hoping to find other girls that he was able to harrass. Danny shook his head, wrapping his arms around her shoulder, “I’m sorry about that… I knew it was a bad idea to invite a guy like him, but he’s my friend right? Next time it happens, I’ll deck him in the jaw.” He grinned jokingly.
“Don’t worry about it.” She smiled faintly.
Music began. Rochelle wasn’t really used to these things, yet Danny asked for her to dance with him.
“I don’t know how to dance.” She replied to him, but he smirked stating that he would teach her. Rochelle felt like an idiot, staring down at her feet, watching how he moved his feet. She moved it the same.
“Wrap you arms around my neck.” He whispered into her ear as he placed his hands on her hips; the two of them suddenly becoming very close. Immediately, her heart began to beat quickly. Rochelle didn’t know what was going on. She could feel her face reddening. With each step that they took, their bodies grew closer and closer.
Danny smiled at her, his baby blue eyes staring into her forest green ones. Rochelle quickly looked away from him, not that there was much to look away from, but she looked at the other couples that were also dancing around them. Some stood there, chattering quietly; others danced; others ate snacks.
She noticed that some of the couples went up stairs, giggling. Danny noticed, too. He didn’t care. Rochelle was a bit shocked; for one thing, she didn’t know exactly what everyone else was doing. What the point of going up stairs and giggling and whatever that meant. Honestly, being Rochelle, being a freshman and whatever, she was really naive. She knew what sex was, of course, her mother gave her that talk when Rochelle was ten, unfortunately. You know, birds and the bees.
When the song ended, Danny didn’t let her go, he continued holding her closerly, his lips brushing gently against the crook of her neck, her soft skin. The birthday boy finally pulled away, and smiled at her, telling her to ‘mingle’ with the other kids as he went off somewhere else.
Songs kept on playing after that, though they were exactly slow songs. Rochelle, for one, went off towards the side, sitting down on the chair, waiting for everyone to gather up at the dinner table once more. They had three dinner tables, each table seating about thirty people. Danny was sure a popular guy for someone that has only been here for a few months.
Rochelle looked off towards the side, and an older woman came and sat down next to her, smiling widely. “You must be a friend of Danny’s…” Well, duh. She looked off towards the dance floor, or at least that’s what the girl called it since everyone was dancing there, looking for her son. “He’s getting older now. I’m his mother.” The woman held a hand out while Rochelle graciously shook her hand.
“Hi Mrs. Pryce, I’m Rochelle.” After she said that the woman looked at the girl slightly surprised.
“Oh, so you’re that Rochelle!” Her voice shocked that kind of a surprised look, “My son speaks of you often. He speaks really highly of you.” She smiled, “I can see why.” Rochelle didn’t really understand what she was talking about, but the girl smiled and nodded along with whatever the woman said.
Another slow song came along, and Danny managed to find Rochelle talking to his mother. “Hi Mother.” He nodded, holding out a hand to the girl, “You don’t mind me taking Rochelle away, right?” His mom rolled her eyes, shaking her head.
She took his hand, and he led her to the dance floor once more. They were holding each other close. Rochelle didn’t understand why her heart wouldn’t stop beating so fast. It was because of Danny. She knew that. She never felt this weird feeling before. Her arm was wrapped tightly around his neck, and his arms were wrapped around her waist. He felt so opened and warm, inviting her into a safe place where she wouldn’t need to worry about being hurt. He was like her little nutshell where she could hide in.
Rochelle closed her eyes, taking in the cologne that he wore. He smelled nice. “Hey, Rochelle?” The girl looked up at him, tilting her head towards the side just a little, as he stared into her eyes once more. “Do you like me?”
Do I like him? I don’t know. Do I? Was this the cause of my heart beating so quickly? Was he the reason why I keep on feeling this weird feeling inside of me? I never liked someone before. I wouldn’t know what liking someone meant. She didn’t answer him though; she just merely smiled and lowered her head, not looking at him anymore.
He didn’t say anything else for the rest of the time anymore. They just danced, their feet moving, left right, left right, back forth, back forth. It was easy.
Six o’clock rolled around, and Danny and Rochelle danced slowly with each other. She enjoyed dancing with him. She enjoyed it a lot. After six, it was time for dinner. Rochelle didn’t eat much. Danny sat at the head of the table, and she sat a few seats down, his friends all chattering loudly.
She wondered to herself, how much money did they use up just for his birthday? He was lucky, able to live with such money and no worries about when his next paycheck was going to be. Rochelle envied him.
They served expensive food. They had everything from sushi to – well, okay, she didn’t even know what half these things were, as long as they tasted good and she liked it, it was fine by Rochelle. There was about five different trays of appetizers then the main dish. After the main dish, was dessert. Of course, everyone knew what the dessert was going to be – cake – it was a party after all.
Rochelle had one tiny slice, and that was good enough for her. After that, it was almost seven. They had five more hours to go. After that, as old as they were, they played seven minutes in heaven. To Rochelle, it was childish, but it’s fun one way or the other right?
One of the boys took charge of the game while the others listened for direction or hardly listened at all as they were playing their own little game. The guy who was in charge of the game was Jorge. The boy who had previously harassed her for that time being. “So…” He grinned, arching an eyebrow, “Let the fun begin.”
Here’s how the rule goes. Jorge was to go around the whole room looking for people to pair up then send them off into a closet. Since Danny happened to live in a big house, such as, it wasn’t hard to find an empty closet even after he picked out five or six couples. Then, the pair was to stay in the closet, lights on or off, for seven minutes.
What goes on in the closet, stays in the closet.
“Final couple!” Jorge shouted out with a grin. He walked right up to Rochelle, looking at her straight in the eyes while she was taking a sip of the ‘spiked’ punch. “You…” He started off, his grin only widening, “and me.”
Danny’s head shot up from what he heard. “Wait, what?”
“Rochelle and me. In the closet. Upstairs.” He took offered her a hand while his other one took away the plastic up she was holding. “C’mon girly. Up, up, up.” He hurried her impatiently as he took her hand leading her up the many flights of stairs. “Stay there, Danny!” He smirked, raising an eyebrow at his friend.
Jorge stuck his head into an emtpy room, Danny’s room. “It’s empty here.” He pulled her into his room and opened up the closet. It was a neat closet, but then again, his maid cleaned it up for him. It was big, too. “Go.” He pushed her gently into the closet as he closed the door behind him.
Rochelle remained silent, going into a small, tight corner as usual. He eventually found her. “So… how you doin’?”
“I’m a little scared.” She whispered, “Why did you pick me?”
“Because I know Danny likes you.”
“So?”
“I want to make him- ”
He never got to finish his sentence when the door flew open with Danny standing in the opening. “Well, here’s the knight and shining armour. What are you doing here? It hasn’t even been two minutes!” Jorge stood up, pretending to look a bit ticked off.
“I don’t trust you in the same… confined space with her.” He sneered slightly, jealously and annoyance showing in his eyes.
“Think I’m going to rape her?”
“You could have done it in less than a minute.”
“Ha. Ha.” Jorge’s nostrils flared slightly as he was insulted. “I’m out, yo.” He held up his hands in defeat, shrugging, “She ain’t my type.”
Danny made his way over towards Rochelle who remained in the corner. He knelt down, not being able to help but smile, “Are you alright?”
“Just a bit freaked.” She stated.
“Well, at least nothing happened.” He pulled her up, wrapping his arms around her waist. “I’m a bit embarrassed, I can’t believe he led you into my room.”
Rochelle ignored the comment as she held onto her head. Her vision came in and out of focus and she felt slightly dizzy. “Uuh..” She blinked a few times, “It’s okay. My room’s worse.” She sat down at the edge of Danny’s bed, trying to control herself.
The blonde watched her for a moment before walking over towards the door, closing it quietly. “Rochelle… I need you to answer my question.” He made his way over towards her, kneeling down in front of her. Danny placed his hands on her knees as he locked his eyes onto her green ones. “Do you…? Do you like me?” There was a desperation in his voice.
She furrowed her brows, not being able to help but frown. “Danny…” She whispered, “I… I don’t know…” Rochelle spoke the truth and nothing but the truth. “I never liked anyone before.”
“Does your heart beat fast when you’re around me? When our body’s touching, does your heart feel like it’ll just pop out?” He returned her statement with more questions. It was as if Danny knew what she was thinking and her cheeks became red with embarrassment. “It does, doesn’t it?” He lifted a hand, reaching up to stroke her soft skin. “I like you… so much, Rochelle.”
She remained silent. The blood in her body rushing up, in a heartbeat, to her ever reddening cheeks.
Danny shifted slightly. They’re face to face this time, and he slowly leaned in towards her, his eyes half closed as he soon as he could feel her breath on his skin. Rochelle’s breathing quickened, her eyes looking from side to side, trying to find something to focus on – anything but Danny. But she wasn’t able to help herself.
She kind of… liked this adrenaline rush.
Her eyes closed as soon as she felt his lips press up against hers. It was her first kiss and it was wonderful. His lips were so soft brushing lightly against hers. Rochelle seemed to have forgotten how to breathe after that. Her mind went blank in a snap of a finger afer that.
“Rochelle.” She came back to reality as he called out her name, blinking once. His hands cupped her petite face, his thumbs rubbing her cheek gently as he watched her embarrassed self look everywhere else. “Please… be my girlfriend?”
For her, everything seemed like it was happening so fast. For once in her life, Rochelle didn’t know how to react. “Would… saying yes…” She started off slowly, finally making up her mind. She wanted to be his girlfriend. She wanted to know what it was like to hold hands, to be hugged, to be loved. “be part of the… uh… birthday present I neglected to bring you?” She arched a brow, not being able to help herself to another blush.
Danny smiled, “As long as you saying yes isn’t a pity one.”
She swallowed, her hands covering his, “Then yes.”

I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter! I had a hell of a time rereading all this and rewriting. I’m changing a lot of things – I believe I can make it better.
Anyway, review would be nice.
By the way, the name IS NOT permanent. :P
