How I Ache
You’ll never know
All the nights when demons haunt me
Dark thoughts that inundate me
Bring me to tears.
My loneliness is stifling
Crushing
I find no rest in your absence,
Unable to get away from your scent
We fight we push
We distance ourselves
And once again I sink into a place
Beyond everyone’s reach
Cold sharpened steel
Flashing in my mind
I have created a prison for myself
That encompasses the world
I wanted so much more for myself
For us
Something sweet
Always just out of reach
As you are now
Even when you are near
I feel you’re far away
I feel invisible and superfluous.
Through all this
I seek detachment
I’m so very tired
Of all that is
You’ll never know
As you trace them with your eyes
Where they came from
What they mean to me
You’ll never truly know
How I ache
And because of that
I will forever be alone
