It was one of those eerily still nights. The horses began to nicker, and run around in frightened circles. Father went out to see what had spooked them so badly. The family heard a few thundering cracks of the rifle he carried with him, and then there was silence again. The family waited in anticipation for father to come back into the house. Minuets turned into hours and still father never come back.
Mother told the children to go into their rooms, and lock their doors. She then gathered up all her strength and walked to father’s gun cabinet. She removed a pistol, and walked toward the door. She walked through the darkness uneasily. She had never fired a gun before. That was the reason her aim was so horrible when she tried to shoot the shadows that were crouched over father feasting on his brains, there were other shadows in the pasture feasting on the entrails and organs of the horses, mother was next on the menu.
Christina heard screams, and the shots of her father’s pistol. The scream had scarred her, as well as her little sister Mariah. Cristina walked to the corner were Mariah was crouched down crying. She hugged her baby sister, and hid her small body with her own.
Mariah let her tears flow on the cotton fabric of her sister’s dress. Christina whispered comforting words to her sister, promising her mother and father were perfectly fine. She doubted what she was saying was true, but the lies kept her from being terrified and kept her sister quite. If whatever was outside came in, she would need her not to make a sound.
There were clawing sounds at the front door, minuets later there was a splintering sound as the door broke apart under the strength of the invaders. Christina muffled her baby sister’s screams with hr body. She closed her eyes and fought her burning curiosity to open the door. Her brother in the other room however could not fight off his own curiosity. It was not really curiosity that made Paul open his door, but the protective need to keep his sisters safe.
He stood in his doorway a metal pipe in his hand rather to bludgeon whatever had invaded there home to death. He stood shocked at what he saw. They were wolves but much larger. There were five or six of them that rushed at him when they saw him. Paul had never had any fear, and he died just as fearless. He swung the metal pipe at the beast connecting with injuring blows only a few times as they brought him down with there fangs and claws. He never even screamed.
Hours drifted on and on in the timeless night. The girls stayed huddled in the corner of the room. Christina wanted to cry, as she listened to her sisters sobs, but did not out of fear. That was until she heard the scratching on her door. Her heart rammed in her chest, with every scratch noise she heard, she thought she would die of a heart attack before the invaders could hurt her. Hours went by, and finally the door was torn into splintering pieces. The large wolf beast came snarling at the girls huddled in the corner. Christina stood up and tried to protect her sister with a broom that she grabbed. She swung the broom handle at the beast. They jumped backwards. One leaps and tackles her from the side. Christina fell down with a scream. The wolf holds her down with his strength, when she tries to struggle another wolf jumps on her to help hold her down.
Mariah cried louder, and screamed as her sister was tackled down. Her cries were soon silenced though as one wolf leapt in her, and slit her throat. The floor was soon pooled with Mariah’s blood as some of the creatures ate her. Christina lay under the heavy bodies of two wolves crying silently as she heard the sickening sounds of the crushing of her sisters bones and the tearing of sister flesh. She wondered when the wolves upon her would do the same to her.
It seemed like forever as she lay pinned to the ground as the wolves devoured her family. None of them touched her, except to sniff or lick her, or growl at her if she got to struggling too much. The pack needed a new mate, and she looked like she might be the mate they needed.
