Reichen looked across the courtyard, his dark sunglasses blocking the glare of the sunlight from reaching his amber colored eyes. Years, decades, centuries, millennia had been spent below ground, deep within the chasm that was hell, and the nearly twenty years he’d spent on the surface hadn’t been able to reverse the effects of so much darkness on his eyes. The darkness had also made him pale. The air was chill, despite the clear sky and bright sun, and he wasn’t used to the cool temperatures. He had dressed for the weather.
He wore a pair of well fitted black slacks over black business shoes, and a dark, cerulean blue, silk long sleeve shirt that fit him like a second skin. A thick, ankle-length black trench coat kept out the cold. His black hair fell to his shoulders and was pulled into a loose sort of pony tail at the base of his skull. As he scanned the faces of the wandering people, he bent his bead to light a cigarette; it was one of the few things Reichen liked to indulge in from time to time, something that he had almost no chance of seeing once he returned to the Land of the Forsaken. He searched not with his eyes, but that gentle flare of power that he held within him. He pushed it outward into the crowd, watching in his mind’s eye the progress as the power washed over them.
The power spoke to him. No, it seemed to say. None of these are suitable. None of these are able to help you... Reichen frowned. He had heard rumors. He had followed almost twenty years worth of clues to bring him to this place. The person, whoever they were, should be here. They should be…
Well that is interesting… Reichen looked with his physical eyes at the spot where his power led him. A small smile curved on his lips. Not only had his power recognized another power, it was female.
She was tall even before the four inch heels she wore, and had a toned sort of hourglass figure. The black pinstriped skirt suit she wore fit had a tailored look to it because it fit her too well to be off the rack. Her dark auburn hair had been pulled back into a no nonsense ponytail and she wore black rimmed, rectangle glasses over her dark eyes. She blended in perfectly with the comings and goings of others, at least to the naked eye, but the power Reichen had touched her with reacted. Reichen watched as she stopped walking, a look of confusion and shock on her pretty face. She turned her head, searching around her for the source of the odd feeling she undoubtedly felt.
Her eyes fell on Reichen and suddenly, time seemed to slow. He watched from behind his glasses as a look of curiosity and fear flowed over her face. A smile curved on his lips and he pulled the cigarette to his mouth, taking another long drag. She started walking toward him, almost as though she couldn’t help herself. In the blink of an eye, he was gone, and she stood there, reaching out toward the now empty wall.
