Lost (Chronicles of Quyloi)

Chapter One

Chasity Quyloi leaned against the bridge on the Greg Town boardwalk over looking the rough water. She knew they were looking for her, they always were. However, it did not matter. It was her time. Her time to clear her mind. The time where she could sort through all the things that were going on in her head, in her life. She looked down at her hand, at the mark the burning cigarette had made.
“Damn”. She thought to herself while flinging the cigarette to the ground. “Just another sign telling me to quit”. She said to herself while laughing silently. Chasity turned around smelling the familiar scent of her younger brother Prince. He was half way down the boardwalk, and she stood lazily waiting to find out what he wanted, what Miguel wanted rather.
“You know you shouldn’t be here right now”, Prince stated irritably. He knew it was no point looking for her. Prince knew he was only wasting his time, but Miguel wanted her at the house, so that she could be watched over like the other females of their race.
“Your interrupting my train of thought”, Chasity whispered without bothering to look at him. She closed her eyes and tried to continue sorting through her feelings, her emotions that were continually trying to overwhelm her. “Why are you still here”, she asked without opening her eyes.
“You know why I’m here, Chasity. If you have, a problem with what Miguel wants than you take it up with him. I’m just doing what he asked… and that’s to find you and bring you home”.
“My problem is with you and your dog like qualities, your weakness, your doing whatever it is you’re told, it makes me sick”.
“It is nothing wrong with taking orders when it’s for the good of your people. Listening to orders is what has helped us to survive, helped us to fit in with everyone else.
“Your sheep, your Miguel’s sheep”, Chasity bluntly spat with a loathsome tone in her voice. She knew Prince had no choice to listen to Miguel. She knew if he was put out of the house he would have no where else to go but it still pissed her off to see her brother, who was so strong mentally and physically take orders from some one who was not even his equal powerfully.
Prince shook his head after reading her thoughts. He knew she wanted him to see what she thought of him. He knew she could have blocked off her thoughts of his weakness, but she wanted to hurt him, she wanted him to feel worthless. “Not obeying orders, is the reason why we have no were else to live, why Nathan and Payloi is dead. If they obeyed orders we would not be where we are right now, depending one some one else for shelter.
Chasity looked at her brother with unwanted hate. He acknowledged their parents by their first names as if they were nothing to him. “Our parent’s not taking orders is what made them strong. Just because you are of the same species as another, who has a house, and is older than you does not mean that you have to follow their orders. Miguel gave us a place to live, yes, but the only reason why he has that house is because it was passed down to him when his father died, and don’t take Miguel’s kindness as power, the only reason he allows us to stay there is because of Christyan”.

“He let’s us stay there for the safety of our people”.
“I have no people”, Chasity screamed as if she wanted everyone walking past them to hear and understand her words just as clearly as she wanted her brother to.
“And so who am I to you then”, Prince questioned.
“Nothing if I had the power to change it”, she spoke as if she did not know if those were the right
words, the words she had intended to say. Chasity frowned as she watched her brother walk away. When
he was no longer in eye sight, she turned aback to look at the once rough water that settled down for the night, reached in her pocket, closed her eyes after lighting the third cigarette of the evening, inhaled, and continued going over the stressful thoughts in her head.
Prince walked along the opposite end of the boardwalk along the many food carts and stores, looking up at the sky. He knew his sister was right. He knew that he did not need to follow orders from Miguel and that he and Chasity could survive without the help of anyone else. Prince just felt more at ease living around those who were like him, those who would not judge him, and question his actions. Nonetheless, what Chasity said and thought of him kept replaying in his mind. There was no one else who could hurt him the way she could, and he knew that she knew it. Still she found new ways to do it without even thinking about it. What he thought of his parents was the same of what Chasity thought of them. He knew that they were strong for not taking orders but when some one is pissing you off the way Chasity was just pissing him off he had nothing better else to say. He knew talking down about their parents would hurt her the way she so often hurt him. Chasity made it seem as if he did what ever Miguel wanted and that was not at all the case. Miguel asked Prince to do something, if he chose to he did it, and if he did not feel like it or just plain did not want to he told Miguel to get someone else to do it. However, they all worked together; they did things together, unselfishly, unlike Chasity whom only thought of her self. Miguel was their leader, only because he was a much more experienced at survival than any of the other males in their living race, only seven males left, at least only seven that they knew about. His thoughts were suddenly interrupted. He glanced aimlessly over his shoulder at the people moving around him. Something did not feel right, though everyone was moving along as if nothing just happened. Prince continued to stare at the many faces that went passed him, but couldn’t find what he was looking for, who he was looking for.

Christyan sat on the porch, waiting for Chasity to come home. He was truly getting annoyed with her. Her constant needs to cause problems when it came to Miguel. He loved her, there were no doubts in his heart or mind about that, but the love he had for her matched the level of respect he had for his older brother. Miguel was there for him more than any one else in his life had been, including Chasity.
“Don’t”, Christyan stated bluntly to his brother without turning around to acknowledge his presence. He started to shift around on the steps, his patience growing thin.
“Don’t what? I didn’t say anything”; Miguel said blindly starring at the back of Christyan’s head. “Chris, I honestly don’t know why you sit out here waiting for her to come home every night. It’s sickening”, Miguel waited for his brother to respond and when he did not he felt the need to go on. “If she honestly cared about you, about any of us she wouldn’t leave out without saying anything, with out saying where she’s going, what she’s doing, who she’s with.
“She doesn’t feel the need to tell me, her every move, and I see nothing wrong with that”.
“You wouldn’t, you let her walk all over you”.
“She does not owe me an explanation, I am not her keeper”, Christyan said with an unexpected harsh tone in his voice.
As soon as Miguel opened his mouth to respond, he saw Chasity in walking a distance from the house. “Where were you”, he asked as she came closer to the porch, never taking his eyes off her.
Chasity bent down and sat on Christyan’s lap with out paying Miguel any bit of attention. She could tell he was mad at her, both of them were mad at her, hell even Prince was mad at her, but right now only Christyan’s thoughts, feelings towards her mattered.

“Baby, come on lets go inside so we can talk”, Chasity said caressing her mouth against Christyan’s cheek.
“We can talk out here”, Christyan said coldly.
Chasity looked up at Miguel with blank eyes, demanding privacy with unspoken words. She watched as Miguel slowly walked back in to the house, giving her complete attention to Christyan.
“What did I do this time”, she questioned boringly.
Christyan continued to look out in to the yard as if she had said nothing, as if she wasn’t even there with him, as if she was invisible.
“I’m talking to you”, she whispered.
“And your saying nothing”, Christyan retorted.
“I did nothing; I have done nothing for you to be pissed at”.
“I’m tired…”
Chasity looked at him with knowing eyes, she knew that his relationship with his brother was turning to shit because of his constantly taking her side over Miguel’s, even though she knew he didn’t want to, even though he didn’t have the energy to.
“I’m tired of the constant shit you and my brother are putting me through, always it never fails, picking one side or the other, whose right this time or wrong, who gives a damn, it’s getting old, and I’m beyond fed up!”
“I thought we had an understanding”.
Christyan just laughed. He couldn’t believe how bad he couldn’t stand to be around her right now, it would have been better if she stayed where she was instead of coming home to piss him off even more, he stilled hadn’t looked at her, he couldn’t. If he looked at her, he knew all the anger and annoyance he was feeling towards her right now would subside and he honestly did not want it to. He wanted Chasity to feel all the fucked up feelings at that moment. She was not getting off easy tonight.
Chasity just looked at him without saying anything. She knew that he did not want her to read his thoughts, that if she wanted to she could, but she did not.
“You will not pull another night like this one or the ones before. Do you understand me”?
Chasity glared at him with stubborn eyes. "Why won’t you look at me”, she asked as if she didn’t know the answer.
“Do you understand me”, was Christyan’s only response.
“I heard you”, said Chasity.
Christyan pushed Chasity off his lap, grabbed the nape of her neck, pulled her face down to his, and looked directly in to her eyes.
“Pull another night like this one and you will be sleeping out side…” he growled with pure anger in his voice, his heart, and then pushed her away from him. He stood up and started to walk down the steps.
“Where are you going”, Chasity asked with frustration in her voice.
Christyan just kept walking as if he did not hear a thing she was saying.
“Is there a reason why you’re following me?” Prince questioned the figure a few inches behind him before stopping to turn around to look her directly in the eyes, see her face to face. Prince knew it was a female from the vibes she was sending off and she was definitely sending off vibes, some unfamiliar but many personal, to personal for someone whom she didn’t even know. Prince met her eye contact and refused to blink, refused to speak, to move, he wouldn’t dare, not until she was the first to break the contact and answer his question.
“ I… I wasn’t following you. We just happen to be going in the same direction. So if you would excuse me I would like to continue going on about my business.”
Prince noticed that she didn’t look him in the eyes, not once while she was speaking and that she was becoming very fidgety.
“So I just imagined your stopping when I stopped and your need to move when I started to move again.

There were plenty of people behind me and yet when I asked, “Is there a reason why you’re following me,” you felt the need to stop and prepare your self to answer.”
“First of all I didn’t have to prepare myself to answer anything and secondly after you asked the question you turned around and looked directly at me,” she said while looking at the sky.
“Just like everyone else you could have continued walking but you didn’t so apparently it was you.”
“Ugh. Look ok whatever, you’re free to think what you want. I’m not going to waste my time going back and forth about following you,” she said with a little more frustration in her voice than she had intended too, while continuing to glance at the sky.
Prince grinned at her. “ So what is the sky your alibi.”
“Bye”, was all she said as she quickly walked away.
“Bye”, Prince said loud enough for his ears alone, while continuing to grin to him self.

Dear Fouilp

I won’t be in as soon as I thought. I know everything is going wrong and that half if not all of it is my fault. This is the fourth time I haven’t showed up since we started this thing, whatever this thing is between us. After receiving this letter I know you may end up hating me but I have to let you know… your boyfriend wont be sparred if he gets in the way of what is to come. After thinking about all you’ve told me about him I know you know as well as I do that he will get in the way. Tell him to leave Greg Town… there is nothing there for him anymore, and there will be nothing there for him in the future… I normally wouldn’t care to warn you to warn him… but I know not letting you know the full truth of what is to come from our actions is nothing short of lying to you. I was always told never to keep anything from the one you’ll always need. I can’t keep anything from you… I know I’ll always need you in one way or another… just not right now. I’m not yet ready to leave my home just as I know your not quite ready to say goodbye to yours.
