Disturbance in Nature
In the middle of the night, a girl awakes in a trance, walks up the stairs and out the door, not making a sound, as she disappears into the night. It's morning again for the third day that the girl has gone missing. Her parents are standing at the door, talking to police. They tell them what happened. She's been missing for three days now and no one knows where she is. No calls, no signs, nothing....
The police try to calm the mother down but she keeps sobbing. There are two that arrived. The other man is with the car. They've had problems with this neighbourhood, and can't trust the car by itself. The officer is just about to explain that she may have been killed or maybe she'll come back but it's not likely, judging by the way the mother has described her.
Jamie comes out of his house to see what’s going on. He stands in his pajama pants, no shirt; curiousity got the best of him. He stands there and sees her parents and wonders what could've happened. As he thinks, Joshua steps out after seeing Jamie outside his kitchen window. They greet each other from their opposite sides of the street by giving nods, Jamie shaking his head meaning to Joshua that he doesn’t know what’s going on. The officer sees this two and recognizes them, they've caused trouble before. He walks over to shoo them away when he stops dead in his tracks, sliding a bit on the ice. The picture of the missing girl flashes in his mind. He stutters on the other officers’ name but just calls out "Hey!" The other officers look and Jamie and Joshua do too. There, walking limply and shaking and naked is the girl. Her hair is down from which is always up; her bangs are hiding her eyes, as her head is bowed. She walks past the two boys, not looking up once at them. Both their jaws are dropped. She staggers past them towards the officer as he steps back, unsure what to do. Her mother sees her and runs for her. Before her mother makes it, the girl raises her head and looks at the officer. He nearly jumps out of his skin. Her eyes are evil. The mother runs at the girl, arms open and squeezes her crying and the girl looks down.
LETS GET THIS STARTED
"Oh my god! Rosette! I knew you were alive!"
Her mother held her tighter. Rosette was still in a daze. The one cop ran over to her as the other backed away and leaned on the hood of the car. He was still amazed with those eyes.
"Kyle! Get over here! Don't just stand there!"
"Uh...yes sir!"
Sure, he said, 'Yes sir', but he slowly made his way to her. The other cop took off his coat and wrapped it around the nude girl, rubbing her arms a bit to get her warmed up as best as he could. He stared at her as he approached her.
"Kyle!"
He blinked out of his gaze and was already at the girl. He had just been standing in front of her.
"Kyle, take her into the house, find her some clothes and we'll take her to the hospital. Got it?"
"Yes sir."
He took the girls' arm cautiously and she raised her head. He leaned back, expecting her to give him that bone-chilling look, but instead got a look of complete fear. When he met her eyes, he started to feel sorry for her. She reached out through the coat and grabbed his sleeve lightly. He started to notice the tears forming in her eyes and he was snapped back to reality. He brought her in close and picked her up in his arms. He figured she wouldn't be able to walk right now, seeing how she was limping before. He walked quickly to the house and her mother followed behind. When they got into the house, he still held her.
"Where is her bedroom?"
"I-It's d-downstairs."
She pointed in the direction but end up leading him there instead. When they got there, her mother turned around.
"Why did you want to come here?"
All of a sudden Rosette started to fell heavy in his arms and he looked down. She was shaking and her face was as pale and white as a sheet. She was passed out.
"We have to hurry. Could you find her some clothes please? Maybe a sweater or something?"
He didn't want to seem rude to her, it wasn't her fault this happened. Her mother gathered some clothes and he put her on the bed and left the room.
"Dress her as fast as you can, we need to take her to the hospital."
Her mother nodded and did as she was told.
"Okay."
She huffed and he turned around to pick her up again. He stopped and looked at her. She was wearing a black sweater that made her figure stand out more. He began to scan her body when something came over him. He started to feel strange. He wasn't used to the feeling that now invaded his head.
"Excuse me, sir?"
"Huh?"
"You said we have to hurry."
"Kyle! We got on ambulance! Let's go!"
"Right!"
He yelled up the stairs to the other cop. Kyle picked up Rosette and hurried up the stairs to get outside. The paramedics rushed in and took Rosette from Kyle, not so much as a thank you left either one of them. He watched as they put her in the back, her mother climbing in also and they took off, siren blaring but then started to fade. It was almost out of hearing range when he felt a hand on his shoulder.
"Come on Kyle, let's go. We got work to do back at the station."
Kyle nodded and followed after his comrade. They got into the car and headed towards the station. It was pretty quiet until they stopped at the first red light.
"Kyle? What was wrong with you back there? I know you're a newbie but you've worked with me before and never froze up then. What's up?"
He didn't know how to explain it because he didn't know what it was. She gave him a funny feeling. Nothing perverted or sickened.
"Kyle?"
"Uh don't know."
"Hmm alright? You just seemed to be acting strange that's all. You got me worried."
He gave an uncomfortable chuckle and Kyle gave a small smile, assuring his friend that he was okay. He wasn't sure what to think of the girl. He didn't know her so why did he get all worked up over it. It was something he'd have to think about later, he was at the station now and had work to do.
