Lukas laid on his back staring at the ceiling in the infirmary. His head hurt horribly, but not as much as his face or ribs. He heard the soft sound of the air pressure door as his principal walked in. Principal Gordon was a kind man, he was always looking out for Lukas whenever he could, but an incident slipped past his fingers this day. He sighed heavily as he noted Lukas’ state.
“How are you feeling?”
Lukas looked at the man; he was beautiful despite his age. Principal Gordon was nearly forty, but one wouldn’t know that just by looking at him. He was tall, with sharp features and soft brown eyes. His hair was too short though to Lukas, it was a beautiful light brown that he knew would look so silky smooth if it were longer. He forced himself to talk despite his badly bruised cheek.
“Okay.”
Principal Gordon sat on the edge of his bed, a sad look in his deep eyes.
“Are you sure there isn’t anyone I can call?”
Lukas pulled his forearm over his eyes, the lights were too bright and his head was pounding.
“There’s no one to call Mr.Gordon, you know that.”
The older man sighed heavily again and stood.
“It’s terrible that there’s no one for you to turn to Luke. No family? Friends?”
Lukas winced and rolled over onto his side, away from Principal Gordon. He always pried so hard every time something happened to him. He wanted the boys who beat him to pay but there was no justice so kind.
“My family doesn’t want anything to do with me, I’m too different for them to accept me again. And if I had friends I wouldn’t be here.”
He rolled over to stare Mr.Gordon in the face, his eyes so full of hurt and dismay. Ever since he had been attacked, when his first tormentor had him in his clutches, he had been alone. The man had tortured him for three days, a time in which he mutilated parts of his body, even going as far as castrating him. He was a boy then, he would always be a boy. A sad smile crossed his face; he knew the words that would make Mr.Gordon stop asking his repetitive questions.
“No one wants a faggot Mr.Gordon.”
He was silenced with that. Mr.Gordon knew that Lukas was a homosexual, he knew the moment they had met, the man was intuitive like that. And he was the only one who didn’t flinch at the word when Lukas said it: Faggot. It was the truth, that’s what he was, why run from it? His experience with the man who nearly killed him changed him forever, physically and mentally. He fought himself for a long time but after a while he came to realize what it really was the man had awoken inside him. After a while Principal Gordon understood Lukas’ desires and obliged.
“Well, we can’t have you staying with Jacob anymore. You stay the night here and get some rest. We’re getting a new student in tomorrow, I think you rooming with him will be for the best.”
Principal Gordon smiled at him warmly, the smile that had won Lukas’ trust when they had first met, he always felt inclined to smile back no matter what the situation. And this time was no exception.
“What makes you think he’ll be any different than the last three roommates I’ve had to move away from?”
He smiled his wonderful smile again with a look in his eyes that told surety.
“He doesn’t know your reputation Luke, maybe his point of view from the outside will give you the opportunity you need to let everyone see you’re just fine the way you are.”
His face grew sad again.
“You need a friend Luke, even if you are a faggot.”
For some reason the word didn’t sound right coming from his lips. But it was comforting that for once it didn’t sound nagging or heavy on him like when the students said it as he passed. He left him there then, alone in his room he had become quite acquainted with. Over the past year alone he had changed dorm rooms three times, this would be his forth. Many of the boys were so hateful towards him, so angry with him for some reason. But why? He had nothing to be jealous of, he was no threat to them, he would never so much as speak to them. He never understood their hostility except for the fact that it was there and it was horrid. He scoffed at the ceiling. It was because human nature demands that they single him out, he’s different from them, and so something to be destroyed.
Lukas forced himself into solitude for safety. He would never shower after gym unless he could slip away to use his own shower at his dorm. He refused to dress out in the locker rooms or to even walk the hallways in his school. It was safer and less crowded outside, although a longer route to his classes, he had a means of escape outside. But he was doing something wrong obviously. Over the past two years at his school he had been moved from his dorm twelve times. He had been to the infirmary twenty times, and threatened, hit, teased, or all and all picked on countless times a day. Was he really so unacceptable? Was he that much of a problem for everyone? He pushed up his sleeves to examine his thin delicate scars along his forearms. From the bottom of his palm all the way down to the bend of his elbow were razor scars; some were old some newer but none recent. He had fought depression for a long time, even contemplated killing himself, but he didn’t have the audacity. The first time he had been beaten at Thornful High Principal Gordon had discovered his little sinful release. He made him promise to never take a razor to himself again, and in return he promised that he would never give him a reason to. Since that day, Mr.Gordon had kept his promise, keeping Lukas as safe as he could and making him feel wanted just enough to not wish to cut.
He pulled his sleeves back down to his hands and found a comfortable position. It was a hard thing to do since his right ribs were hurt badly but his left cheek was bruised. Either side he decided to sleep on was going to be a pain. He sighed and decided his back was the way to go and quickly drifted off to sleep. At least he knew he wouldn’t be hurt while he was sleeping…for once.

*The next morning…
“Alexander H. Ammelt?”
Alex stood before his new Principal. The man was tall and interestingly young looking but his eyes told him that he wasn’t what he might seem. He offered his hand to the man and he took it with a smile.
“Very good then. Come with me, I have some things to discuss with you before I send you off with your schedule.”
Alex followed him quietly, taking in all the sights and sounds around him. After he closed his door though the outside hall seemed to melt away. The room was surprisingly quiet and bright, with large windows overlooking the school grounds. He offered Alex a seat before taking his at his rather large and messy desk.
“Well then, I hope you like our school, we’re all very happy to have you here.”
Alex nodded and smiled his beautiful smile at Mr.Gordon. He was a breathtaking youth, very tall and slender but built with a strong jaw and steal gaze. His hair was jet black and long enough to fall into his eyes but not too long that it seemed girly. Despite his outward appearance that could stereotypically mark him as a tough guy jock, his record was clean. He was a straight A student without a doubt, and had even been sighed up as a tutor for lower education and special education classes. Mr.Gordon hoped that he held that nurturing bone that Lukas desperately needed.
“Do you have any questions for me before we begin?”
Alex bit his lip and thought a moment but nothing really came to mind.
“No sir, I have the student handbook so if I have any questions I’m sure I can find the answers in there.”
Mr.Gordon smiled at him, yes, his intuition was almost positive this boy was the one that would save Lukas.
“Good, then I have a few things to talk to you about.”
He studied Alex a moment to see if there was any apprehension and found none, the boy was solid. He smiled to himself as he gazed out his window at the students walking to and from classes. He wondered why they were so cruel, was Lukas really so wrong?
“I have a favor to ask of you, and I know it seems silly, you being new here, but it’s really a small request.”
He didn’t have to turn around to know he had peaked Alex’s interests.
“Go on.”
Mr.Gordon turned and took a seat in his chair, folding his hands neatly before him.
“I’ve decided to place you in a dorm with another student of ours. He’s very special you see. He requires a lot of kindness from whomever is around him and he seems to be lacking that type of attention.”
Alex’s brow furrowed at his words, he had peaked his interest but unfortunately his curiosity also.
“Is he special?”
Mr. Gordon shook his head, his face all seriousness.
“Yes but not in the way you’re thinking.”
He sighed and stared off into space as he spoke.
“When he’s ready he’ll tell you in his own way his story, it’s not my place to tell you. All I have to say is that I hope you two will get along, and please be kind to him, he really does need a friend.”
Mr.Gordon stood and opened his door for Alex, he followed suit but didn’t feel right. He wanted to see this boy that had his new principal so concerned.
“Can I request something of you sir?”
Mr.Gordon nodded, curiosity on his face. He hadn’t expected anything more from the boy.
“Can you take me to him, I want to see him. What’s his name?”
Mr.Gordon chuckled at his eagerness, it was a good sign.
“His name is Lukas, and yes I can take you to him.”
Alex smiled and followed his new principal, but the smile faded from his face when they walked into the infirmary. They came to a room with only a single glowing light over the bed. It was dark besides that; he must have still been sleeping. Alex moved closer to the small window in the door to get a better look. The boy inside was lying on his back, his chest rising and falling slowly as he slept. And he was BEAUTIFUL. He was so slender and delicate looking, and his brown-blonde hair was spread out about his head like a halo. And his face was so smooth, like he was still only a child.
“How old is he?”
Mr.Gordon stared through the glass sadly at his most high maintenance student.
“He’s seventeen.”
Alex couldn’t believe it he looked so much younger. Mr. Gordon’s hand on his shoulder pulled him away from the door and back down the hall.
“Like I said, he needs a friend Alex, I really hope you can do that for him. Here is your schedule, you had best be off to class the bell is about to ring.”
With that Mr.Gordon left him there to figure out his route to his first class. But even as he found his way and took his seat the sleeping boy haunted his mind.
