Bed of Roses
Sitting in front of the coffee shop, he lit his cigarette, tugging his baseball cap a little lower. Clad in a pair of blue jeans, a long-sleeved black t-shirt, and work boots. At first glance he just looked like almost every other customer enjoying a cup of coffee. But there was a reason for him being there, and that reason was working right now. Looking through the window out of the corner of his eye he could see her working behind the counter. She hadn't changed much it seemed.
Her auburn hair was still shoulder length, and she still held it back with that silly butterfly clip. Her skin was still light and smooth, not a blemish or mark of any sort marring it.
Watching her as she talked to the customers, he wished the smile she gave them was for him. He'd missed her this whole time he'd been gone, that was for sure. The question was would she listen to him if he tried to explain himself to her. He couldn't blame her if she didn't. After all what kind of a man up and leaves the woman he claims to love without a word. Sighing to himself, he reached for his pack of cigarettes. After lighting up another one, he sat back in his chair and relaxed again. He would get her to listen to him somehow.
