Fall
Fall
In fall everything leaves
The birds fly away
Only deserting their wingless friends to grieve
I stand outside and look
At all the fading things
Seeing how long it took
Leaves fall off the tree
They swirl around me softly
Like a small swarm of bees
Death stands beside me
Smiling softly, knowingly
He won’t listen to any plea
I smile back at him
My old loyal friend
He will not leave on any whim
I look back at the ones that flown
The people that where my friends
The ones that left me all alone
They are all so full of bliss
Do they realize that I’m gone
Am I even missed
Death extends his steady hand
“Time to go my friend
your hour glass has run out of sand”
Its time for me to leave the shore
But I stop and say
“Just a while more.”
He nods, he seems to understand
He knows me well
He knows all will go as planned
I look at them for a while
They may not have been told
Maybe my body is still lying on the tile
I turn, I’ve seen enough
The past is unchanging
I’m through with all this stuff
He seems to know
He places a hand on my shoulder
Says “come on lets go”
Slowly and calmly I nod
No point staying here
I accept this act of god
He wraps an arm around my waist
Holds me slightly
A light kiss from me he takes
As hard as this may be
For me to leave all of them
But in the end they were never there for me
In fall everything leaves
The birds fly away
Only deserting their wingless friends to grieve
I stand outside and look
At all the fading things
Seeing how long it took
Leaves fall off the tree
They swirl around me softly
Like a small swarm of bees
