Chapter One: Late Night Drink

It was a crisp November evening a faint layer of snow covers the ground and the stars sparkled brightly in the sky above. Not the stars could be seen with the street lights glow. The man was out for a stroll. He was five foot six and was dressed like and English gentleman complete with a top hat and cane. He garb was a dark slate grey and his cane a five foot length of polished red oak topped with a silver ball etched with a series of Celtic runes and a ruby embedded in the top. He had a regal bearing to him that added to his appearance. His clean shaven face was egg shaped and his eyes a pale brown he nose almost hawkish.

He strolled down the street that night bored and in need of a drink. He finds a nice quiet corner tavern, Red’s. He walks in quietly with he regal bearing. He moves to the bar and sits down on a bar stool leaning the his cane against the bar and setting his top hat on the counter. He slicked back brown hair revealed. He turns to the bar keeper and orders and scotch. After he gets in turns to look around the tavern with a smile looking over all of the patrons in the room.

He had been in the business since he had passed through college several years before. He had he own office in up town. He sighs and finishing his drink as he looks through the paper. “ROSE OF DEATH STRIKES AGAIN: Victim Number 7 Found.” He smiles as he reads details. He relished in the subtly of the scene. Sips his scotch. He was studying this case as new details came to light.

The news story tells of a young woman in her early twenties. She had been found naked laid out peacefully her long hair like a halo. On her stomach a black striped rose and a tarot card, death. Her body had been drained of blood but not a mark could be found on her body. The trademarks of the serial killer dubbed the Rose of Death. The story does on to say that as of yet no leads had appeared in possible suspects. He smiles widely at that as he orders a refill on his scotch.
