It's just a dream
It’s only a dream… Right?
How did I end up in this place? Where am I? This
isn’t my bed. Wow, this is a beautiful room though. As my
gaze wonders the room, I notice things that only appear in my dreams. I
lay in a King sized bed decorated with red and black silk. A hardwood
floor with a red Persian rug makes up its décor. The walls are painted
black with red geometric designs. A bookshelf stands at the right side of
the bed. It appears as if it has not been touched for some time. A door to
the left leads to a balcony which looks over a lake surrounded by a
forest. On the night table stand a dozen roses. Six roses red, six roses
black. How did I get into this place straight out of a gothic romance
film? In this place my dreams could come true, and many even some
nightmares. Maybe we should start from the beginning.
It all started like every night in my life starts, with me and my
aunt Lori fighting about something stupid. That night, however, we had a
guest. He was probably from my aunt’s job like most of her friends. While
our guest sits on our couch which is pressed against the right wall, my
aunt and I have our shouting match in our living room with cathedral
ceilings. With me close to our front door, my aunt near our kitchen on the
other said of the room and our guest in the middle of us, our fight
finally gets interesting. To an outsider, the fight would seem normal but
to those within listening range they would hear an unusual topic of
discussion.
“Angela, god damn it, you’re going outside tomorrow and helping me
take your grandma to her house. You haven’t gone outside all summer.” My
dear aunt said.
“That’s not true, I go out after sunset until 11, or have you
forgotten?” I replied as kindly as possible, but somehow it turned
sarcastic.
“No, I have not forgotten. It’s summer though, and you’re supposed to
go outside, get a tan, hang out with your friends, like normal girls do.
You, however, spend your days sleeping and staying up all night. You’re as
pale as a fucking ghost” My aunt screamed. When my aunt gets into one of
her rants, it’s hard to get a word in but finally I did.
“I don’t care if its summer. I don’t want to tan. I don’t care if I’m
not normal. I just can’t go outside.” I yelled quickly while my aunt
catches her breath.
“Why can’t you, huh? Is it because you don’t want to help me or because
you don’t want to be normal? Is that it? You don’t want to be normal so
you make up this excuse, saying you can’t go outside. Well why can’t you,
Angela? There has to be a reason.” My aunt said, finally giving me a
change to talk.
“It burns, that’s why Aunt Lori. Why can’t you ever just listen to me
and just except it?” I say in a small voice.
“Well. No shit it burns. It’s supposed to burn. That’s how you get a
fucking tan, by burning you skin.” My aunt says in a voice that always
manages to get me pissed.
“No, Aunt Lori, it burns so badly I want to scream bloody murder.” I
yelled just to get my point across.
“Well, why does it burn? Well? You’re just saying that so you don’t
have to go outside and fucking help me. You’re just making up excuses.” My
aunt says starting one of her rants again.
“No, Aunt Lori, it burns because I got bitten…” I say giving her a
knowing look.
“You got bitten? Why would that affect you from going outside? You’re
just lying so you don’t have to go outside. Stop bullshitting me.” My aunt
screams, completely oblivious from the facts I’m putting out for her.
“I’m a fucking vampire, Aunt Lori” I yelled getting fed up with my
aunt’s ignorance.
“You’re such a little liar. You just makeup excuses so you don’t have
to….” My aunt stops suddenly.
I look to see why my aunt has stopped her glorious rant. I look to my
right and I finally focus on our guest who is now standing. My aunt, on
the other hand, appears to be frozen in time. Even though she is frozen
though her I’m going to kill someone face still neatly in place. I do not
focus on her to long though, because our guest is the center of my
attention. While once he was just a part of my surroundings, he now
commands my full attention.
“Finally, I know.” He whispers so low I thought it could have been just
part of my imagination. I study my guest rather closely now since he is
now the center of my world. My gaze goes over him trying to commit to
memory every detail. As my gaze travels his face, I notice he is actually
quiet handsome with blue- black hair, strong facial features fit for
royalty and a body to die for. Even all these features do not capture my
attention as long as his eyes do. Jet-black eyes with the smallest rim of
white, making it appear as if his eyes are all pupil. My eyes then travel
to his mouth, full lips, spread in a gorgeous smirk. My first thought is,
I could fall in love with this man if I’m not careful.
“Finally, I know” He repeats loud enough for me to know he actually
said it but not very forcefully. As I watch his mouth say those words, I
see his fangs grow longer with each word. Oh Dear God.
