If I could be with you

This is the first chapter of my original story. I started writing it in the middle of my history class when I should have been taking notes. *grins* I like these characters and I hope that I'll do a good job with the story. Please read and review.

Chapter 1-

Ryo Smith slumped wearily in the chair of his desk, groaning as he realized that he still had homework to do. He looked at the glowing numbers of his alarm clock that sat next to his bed. 11:00.

A loud thud echoed against the wall between his room and his neighbor’s. Ryo could hear the bed springs squeak and groan as well as the cries of his neighbor’s flavor of the week. Ryo couldn’t tell if the flavor was male or female just by the cries, Jonas, seemed to favor girly men when he wasn’t banging the nearest female.

Ryo sighed as he shoved his hand through his inky black hair. He pulled his glasses off and rubbed at his eyes. He jumped when a hand clapped him on the shoulder. Shoving his glasses back on to his face, he glared up into the laughing face of his roommate Illich. “Think that’s funny asshole?”

“Hilarious,” Illich replied, falling back onto his bed, one of the two beds in the small dorm. “What were you sighing about when I walked in?”

Ryo studied his roommate of three years from where he sat at his desk. The other man’s hair was an ever changing rainbow of colors, it changed often enough to become a weekly bet within their building as to what color it would be that week, but it was always the same length: shoulder length. Illich’s beautiful blue eyes stared into his own brown, curtsey of his half Japanese heritage. Ryo couldn’t stop his eyes from wandering down Illich’s slim toned body.

“I know I’m gorgeous mate, but enough staring,” Illich said, grinning at the flush that had appeared on Ryo’s lightly tanned skin, his almond shaped eyes closing, and his brow furred.

The cries intensified from next door. Ryo got up and he banged on the wall. “Wrap it up Jonas!” He smirked at the squeal of embarrassment coming from the flavor. Ryo and Illich rolled their eyes at each other. “To answer your question, I was sighing about my homework. If it wasn’t for the insane amount of assignments that Mr. Blackstone assigned, I would have my Calculus homework done already.”

Illich nodded understandably. “Trouble with the English Nazi again?” he asked, barely able to contain his laughter.

“Go ahead and laugh bastard, it’s just my luck to be stuck with Nazi teachers. My high school Spanish teacher was the same way.”

:Is that the same teacher whose house you dragged me to last Halloween dressed like a WWII German soldier just so you could stand at her door and say ‘Hiel Hitclure’ while pretending to salute her?” Illich asked. Ryo grinned at the memory. “You should get started,” Illich pointed out, pulling out his cd player and his history book.

Ryo groaned, pulling his book, binder, and calculator closer. “Bastard,” he muttered.

An hour or so later, Illich looked up from his book to see Ryo slumped over the desk, fast asleep. An enigmatic smiled tugged at his lips as she looked at the cute picture his roommate made. “Kawaii,” he said, using the Japanese term the half-Japanese man had taught him. He got up from the bed and he pulled Ryo’s chair out and he pulled the smaller man into his arms easily.

Illich put the man into his bed gently, tugging Ryo’s blanket up to cover the sleeping man. He took Ryo’s glasses off his face and put them on the bedside table. “Thanks mate,” Ryo mumbled, opening one eye.

Illich smiled at his friend. “No prob, Bob,” he said. “Sleep,” he ordered. Ryo smiled and he snuggled into his pillow.

The next morning found Ryo sitting in his Calculus class being chewed out for his unfinished homework. However, his mind wasn’t on the subject of his instructor’s lecture. His mind was instead fixed on the gig that he and his band would be playing that night off campus at a local bar. The band consisted of himself as violinist/guitarist, Jonas on bass guitar, Illich on lead guitar, and two other guys from their building on drums and keyboard.

“Mr. Smith, is there something more interesting on that wall than this lecture?” the professor asked suddenly.

Ryo jumped slightly, not expecting the teacher to confront him. He looked over the wall casually and shook his head. “No sir,” he said.

The professor smirked and he prepared to get back to his lecture. “Well then-”

Ryo jumped up and stuck a flyer for the gig they were playing that night on the wall. “Now there is. Deadly Wolves are playing tonight at the Northgate club a couple blocks off campus.” He calmly walked back to his seat and plopped back into his seat.

The class laughed, the professor along with them. “Nicely done Ryo,” he complemented. “But-” he said, wiping the smirk of Ryo’s face, “it still doesn’t get you out of not completing last night’s homework. Since Mr. Smith’s display put us over today, I’ll let you guys leave. Remember,” he said, raising his voice over the noise of the student’s packing up, “there’s a test next Monday. Try to be here on time. Have a good weekend.”

Ryo waited until most of the other students left the room before heading up to the professor’s desk. “Professor McNeil?”

“Yes Mr. Smith?” Professor McNeil asked, looking up from packing his bag.

“I know it’s no excuse, but I would have had the homework done if it wasn’t for all the homework I had for Mr. Blackstone’s class. He assigns an insane amount of homework!” Ryo complained.

Professor McNeil nodded. “Yes I understand, I have had several other students come to me because of the amount of homework he assigns. I have agreed to tutor them on Wednesday evenings, would you like to join us next week?”

Ryo nodded, smiling. “Yes, I think that would really help me. I can switch around the days that the band and I practice. Thank you sir.”

Professor McNeil smiled and he continued to pack up his bag. “See you Monday,” he said. “Oh and Ryo,” he said just as Ryo reached the door, “That invitation was open to teachers as well I hope.”

Ryo nodded. “We’d be honored if you’d come Professor,” he said.

That night Ryo sat on a bar stool tuning his violin in preparation for that night’s gig. The nightclub had become a well stomped ground for the college kids because it catered to both straight and gay people equally. The band had been playing at the club for almost a year now and they had become such a staple that they were allowed to come to the club two hours early to set up and get free drinks and such.

Illich sat down on the bar stool next to him. “So mate, what’re we up to tonight?” he asked.

Ryo put his violin into his lap as he thought about it. “I was thinking a little Gackt, a little Hoobastank, a little Groban, some All 4 One, and ending with a little 3 Doors Down.”

Illich raised an eyebrow. “All cover stuff tonight?” he asked, surprised. Ryo usually liked to sprinkle in a little of their own creations in their gigs.

Ryo shrugged. “Professor McNeil is coming tonight. Don’t want to scare him too much ya know,” he said, smirking.

Illich laughed. “You just better hope he doesn’t know Japanese. Judging from what you currently have in your lap, we’re doing a Gackt song with violin in it, right?”

Ryo nodded. “I was thinking Mirror. One of these days we’re gonna have to play Vanilla.”

“With fanservice(1)?” Illich asked.

Ryo nodded. “Of course, we’ve got to give something to our hetero-impaired fans.”

“Like you can talk,” came a voice from behind them. The two turned to see Jonas standing there with the others in the band.

“None of us can,” the drummer Rod said.

Brian, the keyboardist laughed. “Yeah I think we’re like the only band made up of blokes that like other blokes,” he said, his English accent obvious.

Ryo shook his head. "I’m sure there have to be other bands made up of gays and bisexuals,” he said.

“Yeah, Boy George,” Jonas joked. Illich smacked him upside the head.

“Shut it you!”

Ryo rolled his eyes at his friend’s antics. He continued to tune his violin while his band mates bickered.

“All right guys,” the club manager, Sean, said. “We’re getting ready to open the doors. You guys go on in an hour.”

“Thanks Sean,” Ryo said. He turned to his band mates. “My Calculus professor might be coming tonight.”

“Professor McNeil?” Illich asked, raising an eyebrow. Ryo nodded.

“Didn’t you have a crush on him last year?” Rod asked.

Illich looked at Ryo closely, watching the dark haired man blush. “I did, but I got over that quickly. He’s got a girlfriend.”

“We’ll be talking later,” Illich hissed under his breath, his voice almost inaudible. Ryo nodded, not wanting to annoy his roommate at the moment.

An hour and a half later, Ryo picked up his violin and faced the microphone. “Our next song is a song from the popular Japanese star Gackt. If you have seen us play before, you’ll notice that we play his songs a lot due to their awesome melodies and the way they flow. This next song is one of our favorites and it’s called, “Mirror.” The music started, and Ryo put his violin to his head. Illich started playing his guitar and the others started playing as well.

“Kanjin na toki ni wa itsumo soba ni inai

nani ga taisetsu na mono na no ka wakarou to mo shinai

daremo ga kimi ni akiakishiteru”

Ryo’s voice floated around the club, his Japanese perfect. Illich strolled over to Ryo and he put his arms around his friend so he could play the instrument around Ryo who was playing the violin. Their voices blended perfectly on the next line.

“Meatarashii mono bakari oikaketeite.” Illich moved back over to his spot.

““furuki yoki jidai wa doku ni itta no!”

Sonna kuchiguse wa kimi ni nageku shikaku wa nai

Kimi no me ni utsutteru boku no eago wa subete ga mukuwarenai

Saisho kara waketteta hazu na no ni…” The entire band got ready to sing the chorus.

“Kono oozora no shita e tobikonde

hitori kiri de…

boku no kowareta karada wa kimi no ude de uketomeraera kana

“Shinjiru mono wa sukuwareru” nante

Iiwake jouzu na tenshi no tawagoto de kami-sama mo uso ga jouzu.”(2)

The band continued to play the song, with Ryo singing wonderful vocals to the brilliant lyrics that Gackt had come up with.

A little after two thirty in the morning the band members were walking back to their building, ecstatic about their success that night. So many people had come up to the after their set was done telling the band how much they liked the Gackt songs. Ryo had smiled at them, handed them burned copies of Gackt’s The Sixth Day Single Collection cd and told them to come back next week.

It wasn’t until they got within twenty feet of their building before they realized something was wrong. Ryo stopped dead in his tracks. “I smell smoke,” he said quietly.

Illich and Jonas exchanged looks. “Mate, there’s always smoke in the air during this time of the year.” He waved his hands around, gesturing to the houses around them. “Fireplaces, ya know.”

Ryo shook his head. “No this is different…” He started walking again, faster this time. As he got closer to the building he began to pick up speed. He was finally sprinting when he turned around the corner and was met with a horrifying sight.

Their building was on fire, the other inhabitants of the building gathered outside the building while firefighters battled the fire. “ILLICH!” Ryo screamed.

The other four guys exchanged looks before running at a breakneck speed to where Ryo was standing. “Kami-sama,” Illich breathed.

Ryo started to run towards the building. “Ryo no!” Jonas yelled, grabbing him by the midsection.

“No I’ve got to go; I’ve got to save my stuff!” Ryo cried, fighting against Jonas’ hold.

“My Prince, your belongings are protected by the magic of our kind,” Jonas whispered in his ear. Ryo slowly relaxed, remembering that he was in the presence of the others.

The five very slowly moved towards their burning building, their eyes wide.

“Sirs, I can’t allow you to go any farther,” a fireman said.

“We live there,” Ryo said quietly. The fireman looked at them with sympathy.

“You can join your neighbors over there,” he said, gesturing towards the group of students gathered in front of the building.

Jonas and Ryo stood off to the side talking quietly. Rod walked up to Illich, while keeping his eyes on the building. “What’s with the way Ryo reacted? What did he have in there that was so important?”

Illich looked at Rod seriously. “All that Ryo has from his family was in that room. He’s been separated from them for most of his life.”

“Illich,” Jonas hissed, yanking the red head away from the others in the band. “The firefighters just told us that the fire’s out. I’m going to go get Prince Ryo’s things. Will you stay with him?”

Illich clapped the other teen on the shoulder. “Do you even have to ask my friend?” Jonas nodded and he crept off, blending into the shadows. Illich motioned for the other two to join him by Ryo. “Are you alright Prince?” Illich whispered. Ryo stared wide eyed at something in front of him. “Ryo?” He then looked at what Ryo was so transfixed on. “Kami-sama!”

Burned into the ground were the words in a language that only the two of them could read:

THEY ARE ALL GONE: NEXT IS YOUR CONSORT

I WILL HAVE YOU PRINCE

1- Fanservice: This is a practice done by Gackt during his song Vanilla where his guitarist would lay on the stage; Gackt would kneel over him and precede to dry hump him on stage. Drives the fans wild. *wink*

2- Here is the English translation:

You’re never around during the crucial times

You’re not sure what’s important to you

Someone’s sick of you

You only chase after novelties

“Where did those good old days go!!”

You have no right to lament things like that

Reflected in your eyes, my face doesn’t return anything

From the beginning you must have known…

Rush down underneath these heavens

By yourself…

I wonder if your arms can catch my fostered body

“I’ll save the things I believe in” you say

The angels (tenshi) are good at excuses with their nonsense, but God’s (kami-sama) also good at lying

Don't expect this to be updated often, I don't have the time right now to work on my stories a whole lot.
