The broken promise
The broken promise
Broken promises were wept upon her grave
Sorrow's dark note pelted her raw skin in waves
A sheet of crystalline anger hailed through the storm
Blue eyes clouded in despondent, dead-panned, forlorn
Sadness for a lover that sailed the sea's
Not stopping at the shore for his maid's desperate pleas
To stay..not sail...in the Tide's vengeful wake
Not to leave her in this love he'd forsake.
Abandoned for the pleasure of the water so vast
Away he pushed the oar...he cast.
To a land of new beginnings yet found, and future's misty outcome
Lord Poseidon's cryptic whispers divine the mortal man succumbed
Leaving the girl in the sun's harsh morning rays
Bewildered and hurt she stands in a haze
At the breaching ocean's waning tides she awaits
Her lover's homecoming...there shared fate
Days passed to months and months to years
Not aiding to alleviate her warranted fears
Each morning she walks the sandy shores
Through a heavy voice she implores:
"Please give back what belongs to you not;
His love I have, his heart I caught.
Send him home from your seductive waters,
Un-snare his soul and let him falter.
Back to me where he should be.
Apart from you and your sea! "
The woman she remained strong
In defying a God's selfish wants from the realm of beyond
To rip back her lover from his embrace
All thoughts of sailing away she would chase
Once she reclaimed her lover once more
So there she stood, abreast the angered sea's a score
Not moving for anything that he drove onto her
The heart battled on that self loving Cur
Then, on the twentieth dawn she won her prize
Giant tears erupted in hysterical surprise
For in sailed her love amongst the dolphin's fin!
Ah, she was happy, this battle she thought she thought to win...
Was a mockery to humanity as no one can wager with the God's and claim
The victored prize they'd hoped for, but a cruel twisted feign
Of this, a hallowed, misbegotten victory
To this mortals plight, and saddened story.
Now back to the maid who thought she'd placed first...
She dove for the man's boat unaware of her luck so cursed
Climbing aboard the S.S. Sala Crim
Bleached her parlor was at this tangled limbs
In pieces that acrimonious Poseidon sailed him home
Broken down to the barest, broken, bone
To his lover's warm awaiting arms
This mortal, she dared to charm
Her plan backfired in bitter misery
This horrific outcome, she never could fore see
So there she died, wrapped in her lover's bloodied, disembodied, embrace
She cried, as a slender, severed, finger slid down her pretty face
In sweet surrender their souls life fled
One for the heaven's the other back to the depth he bled
Sunk deep with Sala Crim, back to the bed where he truly belongs
He was laid to rest in the Sea's weeded throngs.
Laughed, this Old God did at the mortals silly dream
The audacity of the humans will he deemed
Ridiculous to most severest extreme
To give up ones life for a Love so serene...
'What is this concept one would die for?'
He questioned silently at the tides lapping shore.
A being as empty and hollow as he, would never understand
What those four little words could command.
