A wish for something else
A/N: First of all *I'm supposed to be in italics*.
-.- my first story and already I'm annoyed.
Other than that it shouldn't be anything too
troubling.

I drew my dagger into the heart of the orc, letting it fall with the body. I got rid of the next one by snapping its neck. Another one stood leaning over Magorian. I picked up my dagger from the body at my feet and threw it at the orc. The orc stiffened and fell to the side. I looked around for more. We were alone again. Their attack had surprised us, not that we hadn’t been ready to meet them, but that they attacked us at all. Orcs don’t stand a chance against elves unless we are greatly outnumbered. I recovered my daggers before going over to Magorian. I took his outstretched arm and pulled him to his feet. He kept his left arm close to his chest.
-Are you alright? I asked.
-Yeah, I’m fine, he muttered. I swear there must be something about *you* that simply annoys them. It’s a miracle that *I* can stand you.
-Don’t tell me you didn’t like the fight?
-I would like them more if they didn’t happen so often, he said grimacing as he moved his arm. I don’t get it, Alyssa. Every time we go on patrol we get attacked. It must be your very presence that bothers them. No one else has to reports this many assaults after every shift.
-Oh, stop whining about it, Magorian.
I went from body to body and made sure they were dead. I was just about to say something more when I saw one of the bodies move. It stumbled to its feet and looked around. It seemed confused but when the eyes landed on me it appeared to sober up pretty quickly. It took a few trying steps before increasing the speed. I took of after it. It didn’t get far. I came up behind it, cut its throat and watched as the body fell to the ground with black blood gushing out. It cramped for a few seconds before laying still. I put my foot under it and kicked it over. This time it would *stay* dead. I returned to find Magorian standing where I left him, with his hand and lower arm in bandage. He was waiting for me.
-Is it serious? I asked and nodded towards his arm.
-No, it’s only a sprain. It’ll be fine if I take it easy.
He gave me a wary look as he asked me:
-What did you do to him?
I shrugged my shoulders saying ‘what I always do’. He lowered his eyes and shook his head. He started mumbling a lament. I sighed and rolled my eyes.
-You always think the best of people, I nearly scolded. *They* attacked *us*, remember?
He finished his prayer before answering me.
-And you always think the worst.
-Well, that way I’ll never be disappointed when someone messes up, I replied easily.
-And if they don’t. You know everyone makes mistakes, no one is perfect, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t trust others.
-We’ve already had this discussion, remember. You held your little speech about caring and trusting and remember what happened?
This time he sighed.
-Yeah, you fell asleep. Just tell me one thing, is there anyone you trust?
-I trust you, I said as I walked passed him.
I picked up my bow and quiver. I counted the arrows. I was missing three, so I searched through the battleground. One of the arrows was still undamaged. The second had lost its head and the last one was broken in two when the orc fell. I returned the arrow to the quiver and looked at the sky to find our way back. I started walking but when I noticed that Magorian wasn’t following me, I stopped. I turned around and saw him looking around at the bodies.
-Shouldn’t we at least burn them? he asked me.
-Let them rot, it’s no more than they deserve.
-You know they were elves once. Our kin.
-They stopped being of our *kin* when they decided to betray us, I said sharply. They got whatever they deserved for what they did.
He turned around with a curious look on his face. I looked away. I didn’t know why I had been so short with him. It wasn’t his fault how the world had turned out. I have only lost my temper one or two times during my lifetime. I have never had to keep my feeling under control like others since I rarely had any to begin with. It might sound strange, but when I was younger I had simply stopped feeling. They never helped me and when you are encouraged to restrain them you find it isn’t long until you don’t have to try anymore.
-Let the crows feast on the bodies if they wish, I said in normal tone.
I never had to fight to calm down either. On the rare occasions I had a strong feeling it simply faded away soon after it surfaced. It was like they couldn’t get a hold on me. I started moving again, but this time Magorian followed.
-Alyssa, why do you do that? he asked as he came along side of me.
-Do what?
-Let your emotion get through like that then just push it away. I have known you nearly my whole life and a stone could show more emotion than you. Our feelings are what make us different, *stronger*, than trolls and goblins and … and …
-… and orcs? I finished.
He didn’t say anything more on the way back. We held a good pace and were back roughly one hour before sunrise. The guards greeted us as we passed the gate. Magorian and I said good bye before we went separate ways. He headed back to the barracks to report to Jadow about the nights patrol while I returned to my room. I walked through the corridors of the stronghold up to my room and locked the door behind me. I threw my clothes in a pile and washed the blood of my face. I picked out a nightgown from the dresser and got my daggers from the floor. I placed them under the pillow and went to sleep.

Hmmm... well the first chapter down.
If anyone wants me to continue this,
let me know will ya? I only posted
it to see if anyone thought it had
potential.
