Nocturnal Consumption
By
Sarah Gail Moore
It was a hot summer day in July. Just a little bit after seven in the evening, and it was getting darker by the second. The sun was slowly fading behind the tall trees that lined the long deserted country roads. Things were just beginning to cool off for the day, earlier there wasn't a single breeze blowing. But now a cool almost mist chilled the air.
Driving down this lonely road were four friends, some teenage kids all packed into one huge old car. The car was an old beat up chevy, that appeared to be from the seventies or the eighties. The light green pain on the outside was worn off, and underneath it you could see rust and some red paint. The inside was not as bad as the outside, the seats were in leather, not real leather but in pretty good shape just the same. They were dark black seats. The center buckle in the back didn't work, it had no trouble buckling it was just hard to get out once the person was fastened in. The radio didn't work, and neither did the air conditioning, but it didn't have trouble running. It was a good car, despite some obvious flaws.
These four students, had all been friends since second grade, and none of them had good home lives. That is why they'd been planning for months to run away. However they'd never had the nerve until today. None of them ever really believed they could pull it off, but sure enough today they did. It was very un planned, but totally called for. One of the girls that was with them had real trouble at home, and called up the other three saying she wanted to leave early. Though they never planned on it, everything was ready and they were leaving nothing behind. All of them seventeen years old.
One of the boys names is Bobby. Not a particularly good student at Madison High, but very popular among the ladies. That made up for all the problems he had at home with his Father. Who was set on him going to Military school right after he graduated, his Mother died giving birth to him and ever since then his Father blames him. There was even a little abuse going on, but no one knew. So Bobby was glad to leave, he packed what few things he had and they took his car and left.
Miranda, was also eager to leave her un happy home life. She didn't speak much to her Mother or Father anymore. She like Bobby was an only child and because she dressed gothic her parents always thought there was something wrong with her. She'd sneak out, and then find her parents waiting for her, thinking she was on drugs, a whole slew of misunderstood things. She hated them, and picked up her stuff, then left this morning with her friends.
Chantal, a bright young girl who was very popular but very shy is simply ignored at home. Everyone is to busy to notice her, even her brother has grown up and moved out, he gets more attention then her. She was always very quiet, but well spoken when she did talk. She didn't really think she could leave, but she found the strength to go because Bobby went. Ever since she can remember she's been in love with him, and the thought of not being with him wherever he went was too much. She had to go along, he was one of the only people who made her feel special. So she came along, very nervous but with high hopes.
The other young man is Chris, he's a bit of a rebel and tried to leave several times as it is anyway. So when he saw his chance this morning before school he took it. Leaving nothing behind at all, packing everything and going. He just didn't like his family, and was an only child. They never saw eye to eye and were total opposites. Needless to say he was glad to go.
With Chris behind the wheel, and Miranda in the passenger seat, Chantal rode with Bobby in the back. He sat on the far left side, he'd taken his shirt off earlier and was wearing a pair of old light blue jeans, with holes in them and black tennis shoes. He had on a silver necklace with an eagle on it, that he was given when he was five. His dark silky brown hair blowing through the wind as he sat up against the window rolled down, trying to get cool, while talking to Chris. Figuring out where they could stay tonight, without being found.
Chantal just watched him, with her camera and cam corder at her feet, almost as if she was documenting the trip. She's been filming and taking pictures since they left. Mostly of Bobby, and scenery around them. The country was beautiful. She kept looking over at Bobby, her ash blond hair tossing in the wind, as her deep brown eyes gazed into his burning brown eyes. She couldn't figure how she'd explain that she loved him, perhaps she never would at all. But for some reason, with her new found freedom today, she felt herself leaning towards speaking with him.
They all agreed they needed a place to stay, since it was getting dark out. But they hadn't seen any place for miles and so they began to discuss it. Making small talk, they weren't really to worried yet. They had a tent in the back that was Miranda's and so if bad turned to worse they could always stay in it. It was big enough. But for right now, they girls, especially Chantal wanted a place to stay.
"Well, how much further do you think we'll have to drive" asked Chantal.
Bobby answered, "Not sure, Chris what do you think"?
Chris kept his eyes forward on the road as he spoke loudly over the wind blowing through out the car, "I haven't seen any signs for a motel, we're pretty far out I think. We have enough gas, we can keep going for quite a ways".
Miranda sat beside Chris, one leg on the dash board, filing her long black nails, "We could just use the tent".
Chantal sat forward peering over the seat at Miranda, "Please, don't even say that. I can't stand all those bugs and...."
She was interrupted by Bobby, "Lions and tigers and bears, oh my".
Chris and Bobby laughed, Chantal just sat back, "Ha ha, very funny you two. I'm serious".
"I'm just teasing you Chantal" Bobby smiled up at her.
She blushed and tried hard not to look nervous, but whenever she was around him she just got that way.
"Well, if Chantal here can't stay in a tent and we don't find a motel, then what" Miranda asked?
Chris replied, "Oh come on, we'd have to stay in the tent".
Chantal agreed, "Oh yes, it's not as bad as staying outside".
They continued to drive on the long stretch of road, just waiting to see something over the tall country hills, maybe a house or sign. They needed to see something before too long, or else the tent would be there only option. Right now Chantal was even a bit worried about finding a gas station, or any place for that matter. The road seemed to be endless.
Chantal bent down to the floor bored while Chris and Bobby talked some more. Miranda finished her nails and positioned both legs now on the dash board. Chantal picked up her black R2 camera and attached the extra long lense to it. Bobby seemed preoccupied so she began taking photo's of him. He just looked over and smiled at her, posing for a few. Then she took some pictures of Miranda, and the outside flying by.
Just up ahead, on the left side of the road Miranda noticed what looked like a trailer.
"Look, to your left" she pointed.
Bobby looked over, while Chantal dug out her polaroid camera. Just as she sat up with it, she looked to left to see what everyone was looking at. She aimed her camera to snap the photo of everyone when all the sudden out of no where, BOOM! The wheel spun out of control as Chris tried to regain it. Bobby hit his head on the rim of the open window as the car swerved to the right and then left. Miranda's body was jerked about for a while before she felt something wet hit her in the face, spraying her. Chantal was thrown forward and as she looked out the window for a brief moment she saw something. It looked like a large animal, some sort of big dog, or deer. As it flew across the road, her hands slipped over a button on her camera and it snapped a picture. Just then it was ripped from her hands and flung out the window down the road. Miranda flew forward slamming her head on the dash board, just before they came to a screeching stop. Which threw Chantal on the floor, and Bobby fell on top of her. His weight was crushing her, as the car stopped..
Chris sat up first, his lip was bleeding as he turned to see if everyone was okay.
"Is everybody alright" Chris asked, looking at the damage to himself through the rearview mirror?
Miranda sat up holding her head, when she removed her hand from her forehead she gazed down and noticed blood, lots of it dripping from her hand. She screamed and opened the car door stepping outside. Chris quickly followed.
"Oh my God, Miranda, are you hurt" he asked walking to her?
She didn't answer, she just stared down at the blood all over her. It covered her fish net stockings, and short black skirt. The more she looked the more blood she saw on her black shirt. It had holes all through it where her black bra could be seen, but it was covered in blood.
Chris said, "You're bleeding".
Miranda replied, "It's not mine" in a shaken voice.
Chris suddenly remembered Bobby and Chantal in the car. Bobby raised himself off of Chantal, staring down at her. His head bleeding a bit.
"Are you okay" he asked?
She reached up and brushed her hand across his face, "You're hurt".
"I'll be alright" he said looking over for a second.
She just stared up at him, fighting of the sexual desires she was no feeling for him. Knowing now was not the time for such a thing.
Chris ran over and opened the door on the left side to find Bobby hovering over Chantal. He asked if they were alright, and then helped them out of the car. As the came around to the front, they noticed that the front of thr car was all smashed up. Each of them walked closer to the hood.
"Can we still drive it" asked Chantal.
Bobby raised the hood up, smoke immidiantly came shooting out. Bobby backed away coughing, then came back. He saw that some wires were loose, and the engine was a bit beat in. They may not need a new engine, but whatever wires snapped needed fixed. Chris came to take a look.
"Well" Chantal continued?
Bobby turned to her moving closer, resting his hands on her shoulders, "Looks like we'll need a few things to fix it".
"Is it drive able at all" Chantal asked?
Chris answered, "No way, we need some parts to fix this".
Miranda just stood there covered in blood and shaking, Chris moved towards her.
"Are you okay" Chris asked her?
She mumbled, "W...wha..what ddid we hit" she looked up and then around.
They had woods on both the left and right sides of them, even in front and back. Except for that trailer to their left. Other then that, there were no signs of life anywhere at all. They needed help.
"I'm not sure" said Chris.
Chantal added, "It looked like a dog".
Bobby gazed into her eyes, "You saw it"?
Miranda and Chris moved in a bit closer, Chantal continued, "I just barely saw something. It may have been a deer".
Chris nodded, "Had to be, no dog could do damage like that".
Miranda turned from the reck, trying to calm herself and her worries.
They talked for a short while about what to do, they were still a bit shaken up about this. They all agreed that they needed to go to that trailer to see if whoever lived there could help them. As they talked Chantal drifted further from them. Walking a little ways behind the car, picking up what was left of her camera. As she stared out into the woods, she felt as though she was being watched. This thought gave her cold chills up and down her spine.
Just then she felt a hand on her shoulder, she turned and jumped. It was Bobby.
"You scared me" she smiled.
Bobby looked down at her, "Were gonna go ahead and check out that place, are you coming"?
Chantal nodded and followed Bobby closely, as she was a bit scared.
As they walked to the trailer, something watched them from the shadows. They approached the place slowly, looking around. There wasn't much to see. The yard had not been mowed in a while, so it was grown up. There were parts of cars and other things strung out in the grass. To the right was a large shed with no door, it looked like some sort of garage. They headed to the front door, it looked like it was caked in cigarette smoke. Chris knocked on the door, three loud pounds but no answer. Bobby began to call out, asking if anyone was there. It was then, the door creaked open slowly.
"I'm not going in there" Chantal said.
Chris replied, "Come on, we need to find somebody".
Bobby chimed in, "Me and Chantal will check around back. Miranda you stick with Chris".
"Okay Bobby" said Miranda.
Then they went there separate ways.
Bobby and Chantal reached the back yard, it was mostly just woods and nothing more. There was a large pile of rusty looking parts, they assumed it was some type of burn pile. There were also a lot of barrels around as well, for fires.
Meanwhile inside Miranda and Chris just stepped in. The floors were dusty and the place smelled musty and thick with cigarette smoke. To the right was a small living room area. The carpets were tan with large stains on them, mostly red faded stains. Up against the back wall was an old couch with holes in the seats, and on the ceiling was a ceiling fan, covered in dust. On each side of the couch were some end tables. That look as though they were hand made. To the next wall in the living area, towards the left was a chair, a brown chair. Just in front of that was a coffee table. It was made out of wood and logs. Behind this chair was one window, but it was covered by these dirty yellow curtains.
To the left was the small kitchen, it seemed much newer. Which was very strange. There were white tiles on the floors, and freshly painted yellow walls. It seemed nothing in the place matched. The frides was right beside the green stove, and a few spaces over was a sink. The sink was rusted, but the handle bars were new looking, and above it was a small square window to see outside. At the opening of the kitchen was a small bar, with stools on the other end, two, hand built.
Miranda and Chris walked through the kitchen down into the hallway, there was brown carpet and lined wooden trailer paneling. On their left was a cheap door. Chris asked if anyone was there, but no one answered. The whole place was lit with dim almost yellowish lights, and Miranda was getting scared. Chris began to open the door before Miranda could stop him.
It was a small room, just four tiny walls. three rows of shelves on each wall, filled with all kinds of weird stuff. Keys, clothes, blankets, boxes and food. Underneath all that to the right was a washer and dryer that looked fairly new. Chris closed the door and they moved on down the hall to the next door, the one on the right. Again Chris called out, and still no reply. Miranda begged him to just leave and walk to the next house. However he assured her they'd have to walk for miles in the dark before they even saw a house, if there were any at all in walking distance.
He opened the door and it was a bedroom. With brown flat carpet and the bed up against the wall to the left. On each side was a lamp sitting on top of self built end tables, bigger ones then the ones in the living room. To the back wall was a rack with some old clothes hanging on it, that could be smelled from were Miranda and Chris were standing. There was a window to the right, two big tall ones. That seemed as though they'd just been put in. They were barely covered with some white sheets. Behind the door was a floor mirror, and by the clothes rack was a small round dresser. One of the only wooden things not hand built. Chris again closed the door.
He moved on down to the last door at the end of the hall, and yelled. Miranda shouted for someone as well, but there didn't appear to be anyone around. Chris opened this last door and found another bed room. At the back of the wall was another door. First they entered the room, searching around, looking and hunting for any clues as to who might live there, if anyone did in fact. The carpet was light pink, and there were two beds on each side of the door to the back wall. Each with lamps beside them, that were on top of some light wooden tables, that were very tall. On the left wall were some dressers, two of them. Not very tall or wide just small and dust covered. To the right and left were two square windows on each side, with yellow mini blinds covering them.
Chris and Miranda moved closer to the door at the back of the room slowly. Just then Miranda heard a noise behind them.
"Chris, we'd better get out of here" she said.
But he ignored her moving closer to the door. She stayed behind looking out the open doorway, hearing things, sounds like footsteps. It was getting darker outside now, and she was freaking out. Chris opened the door and found the bathroom. With dark musty wooden floor boards that creaked with each step. The toilet was green and looked like it had been used a while back. To his right was the sink and cabinet, both a very worn out blue color, and then a bath tub just before him. With a window above it.
Miranda was waiting for Chris to come out of the bathroom when she heard another sound. She called for him but he didn't come just yet. She was really getting worried now, the noises seemed to be all around the room she was in, footsteps here and a shuffle there. She needed to get Chris, and fast. But she was to frozen with fear to even use her legs.
In the meantime, Chantal and Bobby had found their way into the garage. There were wood floors and an old red lawn mower. With tools hanging all over the walls. It was getting late, and darker by the second. They needed to find help and get to work on the car, right now.
Back in the house, Miranda finally brings herself to move and backs up a bit. She jumps, bumping into Chris. Now both of them can hear the strange sounds, and just as they're about to run for the door to leave this room, it slowly begins to creek open. Miranda screams as the door swings open and hits the wall, but it's only Chantal and Bobby.
"You scared my to death" says Miranda panting, still shocked.
Bobby replied, "I don't think anyone lives here".
Chantal added, "Me either Bobby. I mean this place is just to run down. Besides that, there's not even a car here".
"Maybe the owner went somewhere" said Chris.
Bobby responded, "Yeah where? There's not a place in miles".
"Could have been out for a drive" Chris continued.
Chantal said, "I think not. This place is empty, and we do need a place to stay".
They talked over it for some time, not too long however as they didn't want it to get dark. Each of them agreed it would be good to stay there, at least for the night. They had some food, and this place had the tools to fix their car. Bobby and Chris could get to work on it right away. After that was settled things began to loosen up. The girls went out to the car and got a few things from it. Just vital stuff like food and things they didn't want to leave in the car. Chantal brought in all her camera's and her cam corder.
"Why so much film for the camera's" asked Miranda setting her things down in the living room?
Chantal replied kneeling down, messing with a few duffle bags, "I like to take photo's. You know that".
As they un packed a few things Bobby and Chris had already begun working on the car. They pushed it off the road and Bobby had gone to the garage to get some tools. On his way out, he decided he'd better stop in a get a couple bottles of water. He turned around and set the tools down outside the front door, just as he was about to step in he heard something rustling in the bushes to his left. He quickly turned, but the voices from inside caught his full attention as he listened to the two girls talk as they un packed.
"So, are you ever going to tell Bobby that you're attracted to him? I mean he's not gonna stay single forever" said Miranda putting her bloody clothes in a plastic bag.
Chantal ignored the question, "I'm glad you weren't hurt, it's also good you had some time to change".
"Chantal..." Miranda started but was interrupted.
"It's also great that we have a place to say" Chantal continued, taking out her camera's.
Miranda started in again, "Chantal, will you pay attention? Are you even hearing what I'm saying"?
Chantal stopped everything and looked up at Miranda. Little did they know Bobby was outside curious to hear her reply. It was strange because he'd never really thought of her as anything but a friend. Yet when he heard she was attracted to him, something happened, and it just clicked.
"I'm not just attracted to him. You know that, he's......well he's....he's like my best friend. And I can see him being so good with me and.....I don't know. The whole thing is really silly anyway, I mean he can pick and choose who he wants, and I can tell you he's never looked at me like this before" Chantal replied.
Miranda tossed her jet black hair over her shoulder, as Chantal looked into her brown eyes.
"He might like you back" said Miranda.
Chantal picked up her camera, "He might like me back. He wont love me. That's the problem" she rose and walked in the kitchen with her camera.
Bobby on the outside wasn't sure what to say. But he was a little excited, and had almost completely forgotten about the earlier events. She had always been there, and he did love her. Only it was a best friend sort of thing.
He opened the front door and stepped inside. Both girls attention was drawn to the door as he walked in.
"I just needed some water" he said.
Miranda dug around through her bag, and handed him two bottles. He thanked her, and then took a look and Chantal. She seemed a bit sad, he just smiled at her, until she returned the favor. The he walked out.
They didn't get the car fixed that night, it got much to hard to see and so they came in after a while. All of them stayed up a bit late joking and talking. Then they spoke a little about what they had hit. No one even thought twice about whether or not someone was living there. It wasn't a question of someone, but something did live there, and it watched them for a couple hours from the window, hungrily.
Finally around midnight they grew weary and needed some sleep. After all tomorrow Bobby and Chris would have to fix that car. The girls were a little worried but had faith in them both. They couldn't go back the way they came, or else their parents might find them. But right now they had to worry about a place to sleep. There were four people and only three beds. Bobby wanted to room with Chantal, all evening he'd been talking to her. Seeing her in a different light then before. So when the time came, he chose her to room with. She was a bit taken back.
"I think the girls should room with the girls, and guys with guys" suggested Miranda.
Bobby insisted further, "I want to room with Chantal. I don't want to be with Chris".
"Thanks a lot pal" said Chris.
Bobby continued, "Chantal you don't mind....do you"?
She thought for a moment, this could be her one and only chance. So she agreed with Bobby, but Miranda wasn't going to budge.
Chantal took Miranda off to a small corner by a window and began speaking with her.
"Miranda, just room with Chris please. Just do me this one favor, I'm beging you. He's been flirting with me all night, I think he actually noticed me today and I don't want to ruin it".
"Yeah but I don't wanna room with Chris" begged Miranda.
Chantal explained, "Yes but you get to sleep in separate beds if you do this....." she was cut off.
"Are we doing it this way or not" asked Bobby, Chris following behind him?
Miranda sighed, "Huh, alright fine".
Once it was settled they moved into their rooms, and were ready for bed. Bobby told Chantal he could be the one to take the floor. As she set her camera bags down beside the bed, Bobby slipped a white shirt over his head. Then set up some blankets on the floor for himself. Bobby kept smiling at her, and neither of them were speaking. But he just felt so attracted to her at the moment, it was like this overwhelming feeling. He had known her all his life, he trusted her. She knew all his secrets and faults, but still managed to love him. It was as if the answer had been right there the whole time.
Chantal was feeling different in this moment, almost bolder then before. Bobby was standing there just looking at her. Sitting at the edge of the bed with her camera, ready to put it down. Then she thought of something else.
"Bobby, may I take a few photo's of you" she asked?
He smiled, "Sure, what for"?
She replied, "Nothing really I just......you look so good" as soon as the words escaped her lips she wanted to take them back.
Bobby smiled and giggled a bit, "Alright" he agreed.
She was surprised at him, but didn't waste anytime on photographing him. The more pictures she took the hotter the tension grew between the two of them and before too long they both felt it so strongly, but held it down.
She looked up at him, "You know, you'd look even better without the shirt" she said nervously.
Bobby was taken back by her unexpected request, but at this point in time he didn't care how strange it seemed, and with that he slipped his shirt off. She snapped several shots of him, making him laugh and talking with him.
Miranda and Chris had just shut the lights out and laid down when they heard the first scratching noise outside one of the windows. Miranda just laid there, frozen with fear. It sounded like someone tapping on the window glass and she began to wonder if they were really alone out here.
"Do you hear that" whispered Chris?
Miranda replied quietly, "Yes".
As soon as she spoke the scratching grew louder, and she clutched her covers tightly.
"What do you think it is Miranda"?
She replied, "I don't know".
Chris sat up, she could see his figure moving towards the window. The noises stopped as he looked outside. There was nothing he could see so far, although it was pretty dark.
"What do you see" she asked?
He answered, "Nothing, it's most likely nothing".
He laid back down and within seconds that sound was back. As Chris was about to call out he heard some kind of moaning outside the window. He thought maybe it was a person! He shot up out of bed and turned the light on, rushing to the window. He could see blood all over the window, in the shape of hands it seemed like. Miranda walked next to him and looked for herself.
He turned to her, "What if we hit a person on the road"?
Miranda pushed that thought from her mind, "No, Chantal said it looked like a dog. We must have hit a dog".
"Well do you think it's out there? I mean, someone has to check" Chris explained.
Miranda could see were he was going with this, "No Chris you need to stay in here. Either that or go and get Bobby".
"I can handle this just fine" Chris said sternly.
In the other room, Bobby and Chantal were totally unaware of what was happening. She had asked Bobby to slip off his pants as well, and after that the fun really began. They didn't take to many pictures after that. Bobby ended up in bed with her, which is were he was now. They were kissing uncontrollably, so hot for each other and right now.
She slid his boxers of, and melted at the feel of his hands slipping her nighty off and positioning himself on top of her. She had dreamed of this moment all her life, and now it was actually happening. She'd always thought she'd be nervous, but Bobby was so good to her. He knew she'd only been with one man before, and he made it so easy. As he entered her slowly she felt everything else disappear, and then let herself feel so wonderful. Bobby rocked his hips into hers as the pace quickened, and they began to moan and cry out for each other. It was pure bliss.
While all that was going on Miranda anxiously awaited Chris's return. She'd begged him not to leave her, but he insisted on checking outside. When she saw him from the window she felt a bit relieved.
Chris was not at all at ease. He could hear all kinds of movement around him, shuffling and rustling. Footsteps and slight faint sounds of something coming closer. He panicked, Miranda saw it in his eyes. He turned to head for the house, but it was much too late. Without any warning or signs at all, something leapt out at him from the woods. It was so dark that Miranda couldn't see it, but whatever it was, it was huge! She screamed for Bobby and Chantal, but their sounds of love making were far to loud for them to hear passed. She watched in horror as Chris screamed for help, this thing had him by the legs and was tossing him around like some rag doll. He felt his legs breaking and could hear things like flesh and bones snapping and popping. Miranda called his name as she banged on the window, not knowing what to do!
Chris broke free of the creatures metal jaws for just long enough to crawl away. Then he looked back and it was gone. She could still see him through the window. He yelled at her, telling her to come and save him. But she couldn't move. He heard the rustling agian, and then a loud vicious growl just before he felt something sink it's teeth into his side. Ripping and tearing his skin and insides away, he watched the blood squirt from himself and hit him in the eyes. Then he couldn't see. He beat at the thing, but it's grasp was far to strong. Miranda called for Bobby again, but still no answer. She couldn't hardly scream, nothing was coming out. She watched the beast drag Chris, screaming into the woods, and then something in her head snapped. She was almost paralyzed.
Then nothing. Not a single sound for what seemed like an eternity. She moved closer to the window, gazing out in terror, she couldn't see a thing. Only the full moon shining down in the sky, but even that didn't make enough light to brighten up the dark over shadowing tall trees surrounding the house. As she peered out the window, she waited in silence hoping he was alright, but deep down she knew. Chris was dead.
CRASH! The glass on the window broke and in popped the creatures head sucking her through the window and pulling her outside. It drug her deep out into the forest. Pulling her by her arm, which was now dislocated. She screamed aloud.
"Bobby! Bobby!! Hel
p me, Bobby please! Somebody! Help me! Help me, Chantal, help me, Bobby! No God, please, Oh God! Oh God" she shouted, but no one could hear her. Or help her at this point. She screamed in pain as this monster ripped and tore her arm off. Blood shooting out everywhere, it grabbed her legs and flung her further into the darkness and woods.
Then it was gone, she stood up and looked around. She could see anything, but she could hear it shuffling around some more. She started to run and call out for Bobby or Chantal, she was frantically falling down and shaking. Holding the bloody stump that once was her arm. She screamed as she ran, and then she heard it. It wasn't long before she could feel it nipping at her heals, and breathing down her neck! She tried to run faster and just as she reached the end of the woods, she could see the house. She reached out with her one arm and screamed. It wrapped it's claws around her waste and pulled her into the darkness.
"Did you hear something" asked Chantal?
Bobby looked up, still panting and on top of her, "No".
He leaned down and kissed her lips softly, then pulled away. She kept looking over at the window, with the light of the moon shining through.
"Are you sure? You heard nothing"?
Bobby smiled, "Do you want to stop"?
She wrapped her arms around his neck, and moved her hands across his back gently, "No, don't stop" she begged.
Bobby made a trail of kisses down her face and onto her throat as he traced her neck with his tongue. She ran her fingers through his dark hair, as he started moving inside her once more.
It went on for hours, neither of them knowing that their two best friends were dead. They finally finished making love and collapsed in each others arms around five am. Chantal fell asleep on Bobby's chest, as he breathed in and out.
They woke not long after that, just forty five minutes. Chantal shot up, "What was that" she said.
Bobby turned over and sat up slowly, kissing her shoulders, "Nothing baby, go back to sleep".
She looked at him, "No, I really heard something this time".
"You're just being paranoid" Bobby told her.
She still sat up looking around the room as her eyes adjusted to the darkness surrounding them.
"It's probably a wild dog or something" Bobby said.
That triggered something, she remembered seeing a dog like thing that they hit. Just before the car stopped. She turned on a lamp beside the bed and wrapped a sheet around herself. Kneeling down and picking up the remains of her polaroid.
"What is it now" Bobby asked, a bit frustrated?
She got the camera and sat back on the bed, leaning into his arms as she struggled to pull the photo out that she'd snapped earlier.
Just then Bobby heard a noise at the front door. Chantal did as well but kept at the camera, trying to pull the pic out.
"What was that" Bobby asked?
Chantal pulled the photo out right when they heard a loud crash in the living room. It sounded as though the door had been kicked in. Then there was total silence.
Just then there was another loud crash, then it went away. Bobby rose out of bed and slipped his light blue jeans on.
"What are you doing" she asked?
Bobby said, "I'm going to see what that was".
She grabbed his arm, "Are you crazy"?
Bobby replied, "Relax, I'm just going to go and check on Miranda and Chris".
She let him go, he moved slowly towards the door as he heard another crash. Obviously whatever was banging on the front door wasn't banging very hard, it was just making a lot of noise.
Bobby creaked open the door and stared down the dark hallway, moving upwards to the light. He could tell Chris and Miranda's bedroom door was open, as he moved closer. He could see that the lamp was turned out, as he picked up speed. When he finally reached their room he reached over and turned on the lamp. Gasping in horror at the sight of broken glass covering the floor, mixed with blood and particles of flesh. His body began to shake as he backed out of the doorway. With whatever it was outside still banging on the door. He knew it wasn't Chris and Miranda at the door. But he didn't know what had happened to them, all he did know was what he fought at thinking the most. They were dead somewhere.
Chantal could hear the noise growing louder as she saw Bobby run in and lock the door. He jumped back on the bed with her.
"What is it" she asked?
His eyes were focused forward, not blinking or flinching for a second. She could see he was shaking, and she moved closer to him.
"What is it Bobby"?
The sounds became so loud Bobby thought he would die of shock. She tugged at the photo as she tried to get Bobby to speak. But he was so petrified he could barely move.
Just as she pulled the picture out of the camera, she and Bobby heard the door ripped off it's hinges and whatever was out there trying to get in, had achieved it's goal.
She stared down at the picture, her eyes widening with terror as she looked at it. Tears streamed down her face as she shook, backing into Bobby's arms. He grabbed the photo from her and gazed upon the horrifying beast that she'd taken a snap shot of. Tears fell from his eyes as he dropped the picture and began to cry in fear. Bobby wrapped his arms around Chantal as they heard the thing breathing at their door.
"Oh Bobby" Chantal cried in a low shaken voice.
Bobby held her closely in his trembling arms as the door swung open. Both of them screamed aloud, but no one heard them. No one could help them, and no one would. It was too late, much too late.
THE END
"Come on, we have got to get out of this room" Bobby said shakingly.
Chantal reached down in the floor and threw on a pair of dark blue jeans and a pink sleeveless shirt she'd had picked out for tomorrow. Bobby was begging her to hurry as quickly as she could. They could hear the beast coming closer to their door! Chantal reached down at the last second as Bobby tugged her towards the window, and she grabbed her camera.
Bobby struggled against his shaking hands to force open the window, he allowed her to climb out first. The window would only open half way, and she barely fit out. As she set her feet on the ground she tried to help Bobby on through, as that creature reached their door!
It began to bang and scratch slowly, and it was sniffing around, smelling for something, they could both hear it. Chantal again was trying to help Bobby, but he wouldn't fit. He wrapped his arms around the window, fighting to make it budge open as the banging at the door got louder.
"Just go, get out of here" Bobby told Chantal.
She replied in a low whisper, "No Bobby, I'm not going to leave you here like this".
Bobby was trembling now as the hinges started to pop off and come un done, "I'll be alright, I'll hide somewhere. Just go".
"I'll get help Bobby..........I promise" Chantal cried.
Then she ran out of Bobby's sight.
He turned around frantically searching for a place to hide as the creature banged further on the door. Just as it was about to swing open, Bobby ran for the bed. Hiding himself underneath it, just as the door swung open. He couldn't see much, not from where he was. Just these long claws at the end of what looked like a dogs feet. Whatever it was, it walked on all floors. Suddenly, it's leg was hung on the lamp in the wall and pulled it off the end table. Sending it crashing down to the ground, leaving him in the dark.
Bobby could hear it breathing louder and heavier, it was catching onto his scent, he fought not to panic but his breathing was getting so heavy. After seeing a glimpse of this thing in the photo, he knew just what it looked capable of doing. Ripping him to pieces, then possibly eating him. He thought on all this, thinking that soon he may just join Chris and Miranda.
Things got real still, and very quiet. He didn't hear it walking around anymore, things got so silent you could hear every noise in that creaky old place. Just then Bobby's elbow hit one of Chantal's camera's she'd laid beside the bed! The monster growled horribly as it began to violently shake and toss the bed about! He could feel it's hot breath at his heels and started to scream, and sweat heavily. It was then that this monster moved closer to him, up to were his head was. And all he could think to do, was grab a camera, and stick it out in front of him. In hopes that it would take a bite out of the camera, instead of him!
Bobby did just that, he grabbed the first one that was in his reach and the creature lunged it's teeth at him. When it did it hit a button on the camera that snapped a photo. The monster howled and screeched monstrously before running out the door. Bobby thought he heard it darting aimlessly through out the trailer before it shot out the front door.
He wrapped the camera around his head, then crawled slowly out of the bed. Just as he rose he heard a loud whisper that made him jump.
"Bobby" Chantal called out.
He followed the sound over to the window and looked out, "Chantal? What are you still doing here? I thought I told you to leave" he said?
"I just couldn't Bobby, I heard your screams and I......I don't see Chris or Miranda anywhere. Oh Bobby.....I'm scared" she wept.
It was then that Bobby and Chantal heard rustling in the bushes outside. Bobby remembered that the creature had gone outside, or so he thought.
"Chantal, listen to me.....you need to get out on the road..." she interrupted him.
"What was that" she asked shaking with fear.
Bobby continued, "Chantal, Chantal! Look at me, that camera around your neck, it doesn't like flashes.....that monster, it's afraid of the flash on the camera....."
She spoke again, "Bobby what are you saying.......(more rustling) oh God.....what the hell is that"?
Before he could speak the monster leapt out at her.
Bobby yelled, "Use the camera, use it"!
She was unsure of what he meant but started taking pictures. The creature flinched and howled whenever she did. She screamed at the top of her lungs as it came for her. She was using up all the film she had, Bobby watched in horror as the girl he loved was fiercely being pursued.
"I'm coming to get you! Keep him off of you" Bobby yelled just before he ran out of her sight.
She fought as best as she could against the beast, flashing those blinding lights in it's eyes. Bobby ran as fast as he could down the hall and through the kitchen. It was then he heard this low growl. It couldn't be that monster, he thought? Unless there were two of them. Just as that thought entered his mind another one, the one that had been in the room with him, leapt out! Bobby flashed it, as he ran out the large hole that once was where a door was.
Chantal was knocked off her feet and onto the floor, being dragged by this thing, her flash was jammed and she couldn't snap the shot!
"Bobby! Bobby! Help me, oh God, Bobby" she called out!
It began to drag her further out when all the sudden, SNAP! Bobby took the shot of it, and it released her, running off into the darkness. Bobby ran to her, lifting her up. As they rose to their feet, they could hear rustling from almost every angle, as if they were falling prey to a pack of wild animals. How many of them could there be? Neither Bobby nor Chantal wanted to find out, but from the sounds of it, there were many more and they were being surrounded!
She took Bobby's hand as he led her through the yard as fast as he could, with their camera's in hand all the way. Bobby rushed her onto the street as one of them, followed. They ran to the car, Bobby ordered her to get in.
"But the car, you said it wouldn't go very far" Chantal screamed!
Bobby replied, "It'll go far enough"!
She ran in and got in the passenger side, with Bobby in the front seat. Pulling the keys from his pocket and starting the car. As they pulled away Chantal saw, one, two, three, four then five of those things leap out at them! A she could hear even more on their way as they drove off. Speeding down the road, getting as far away as possible.
"Miranda and Chris, what about them" she asked?
Bobby answered, "They're dead, I saw the blood".
Chantal began to cry again, "What happened? What was that place"?
"I don't know, I just..........don't know" he replied.
The car did better then either of them thought, by morning they'd reached home with little to no car trouble at all. But all the way back home they could hear growling, how far had this spread? It didn't matter they were back home, and with photo's to prove what they saw.
A week or so later police were sent to investigate the murders of Miranda and Chris. Neither of their bodies were found, there was no trace of them ever being there. Nor was there any signs of trouble. The door was put back on, the rooms cleaned but no people. Bobby and Chantal had the photo's but still, nothing was ever found. They went back home, closer and stronger then ever. And to this day, no one is really sure of what happened that night, not even Bobby or Chantal anymore. All they do know is that whatever went on would keep going on, nothing could stop it..........nothing.

Nocturnal Consumption

THE ALTERNATE END
