Faery child

While strolling through the deepest woods,
Quite late into the night,
I came upon a vision,
A divinely inspiring sight.

A lithe and graceful maiden of the wood,
Beneath the moons luminous beams,
Flooded by light she stood,
The kind of beauty found only in dreams.

Her eyes were alight with some impish mischief,
They shone brighter than all the stars in the sky.
I was overcome with the deepest tranquility,
It would have been nothing to lay down and die.

As he rosy lips upturned into a smile,
Her pale cheeks flushed and gleaming,
It occured to me that life had never been so perfect seeming.

And when she began to speak I knew my life was near over,
She lulled me with her sirens song as we lay amongst the clover.
And the last thing I remembered upon awakening this morning,
Was the cold sepulchral kiss she pressed to my brow,
And the words, "Dear, do take warning."
