Unfaithful
The Gellar’s appeared to be the perfect couple. Happy, young and rich. Married for 10 years, which was 10 years too long. Jack and Elaine didn’t speak to each other as much as they used to. Maybe talking about their day or discussing something in the newspaper. They were the perfect couple to friends and family but alone they mostly went there separate ways. No one really knew the reason for their lack of interest in the other.
They had the perfect house with a maid to tend to the inside and a maintenance guy to keep the house beautiful on the outside. Caroline was a wonderful grandmotherly woman and took care of the Gellars like no other. But they couldn’t seem to keep a maintenance guy for too long. Jack usually didn’t approve or complained that he didn’t like their attitude.
Their newest maintenance guy was Bobby Hammerfeld, a 21-year-old college student paying his way through school. He was a very attractive young man, a bit over 6 feet tall, brown hair, nice physique and deadly blue eyes. Jack didn’t seem to have a problem with Bobby. He appeared to be a good kid, who was hard-working and had good manners. He always did his work without complaining. Jack usually let Bobby take a swim in the pool when he was done with his work. As long as he cleaned it after he was done.
Elaine noticed Jack was nicer to Bobby, treated him better than anybody else. She dismissed it as a mentor/student relationship because Bobby looked up to Jack and his work. Jack would tell Bobby old colleges stories and Bobby would also share some of his own. He felt like a kid again, having someone to talk to and laugh with. He didn’t feel like the hardened, straight-faced attorney that he was. Even though Jack was only 34, he had felt about 64 since he had been doing nothing but committing himself to his work.
Bobby even got Jack to exercise more. Every once in a while Jack would go out and play some basketball with Bobby. Jack always tried to get Bobby to talk to him about relationships, stupidly thinking he could give him some advice on girls. But everytime Jack would ask, Bobby would change the subject. On this one occasion, Jack called him out on it.
“Why do you always skirt this topic? You never talk to me about your love life. I just want to help you out.” Jack said.
“No offense, sir. But I really don’t think you can help me much with my problems.” Bobby said, carefully.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Jack asked, upset.
Bobby really didn’t want to talk about it. He didn’t know any other way to get through to Jack. “I’m not trying to offend you I’m just not comfortable talking about it with you.”
Jack finally let it go at that and finished the game.
The next day, Jack was coming home. He walked from the garage and through the yard. He stopped when he noticed Bobby swimming in the pool. He walked over to talk to him and stopped dead in his tracks near the edge of the pool. Bobby was floating on the top of the water. His eyes were closed, taking in the sun’s rays. He was reveling in the feel of the water surrounding his naked body.
Jack watched him, stunned. Watched as his arms caressed the surface. Watched as he floated gracefully there without inhibition. He couldn’t take his eyes off Bobby. It was like some perverted fascination. It intrigued him rather than disgusted him. Jack snapped out of his reverie, not liking the way this was affecting him. He knew he should put a stop to it.
“Bobby, I think you should get some clothes on before someone sees you.” Jack warned.
Bobby panicked at the sound of Jack’s voice and blushed at being discovered like that.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Gellar… It’s just… I lost track of time… I just like the feeling. Ya know, the feeling of being completely free, no restrictions… and just floating without knowledge of time or place. It’s so relaxing.”
Jack stood at the edge, mouth hanging slack. He was amazed with the boy and his freedom. He gave his up a long time ago. Of course, Jack would not say any of that to him, for fear of him getting the wrong idea.
“Get out of there and get some clothes on.” Jack practically ordered him.
Bobby swallowed the lump in his throat and proceeded to climb the ladder. Jack inadvertently stood in his way to his clothing, Bobby tried to get around but he couldn’t. Not because he was physically blocked but because there was something there, some kind of magnetic field pulling him into Jack. Jack’s unsteady breath against Bobby’s wet skin sent chills throughout his body. He was unable to keep eye contact.
“Bobby…”
“Mr. Gellar… I see how you look at me… I can feel it. It feels so good to have you look at me that way… Maybe that makes me a bad person. But… I can’t help myself.” Bobby confessed quietly.
Bobby pulled himself away and grabbed his clothes and his towel. Jack stood there in shock as Bobby ran off towards the garage.
